A decent car Thomas and quite practically, speaking about the interior space. I like also your Elephant's head with two ears : the left one for the media control and the right one for the cruise control ! What can I say, is a really slick your elephant's head !

Today I visited a Nissan dealer on my way home from work. It was quite spontaneous. They haven't had the new Micra in the show room yet. But all of a sudden I found myself sitting in the Pulsar. I must say this car is very simple in a positive way without being anyhow primitive. The rear department is astonishingly spacious indeed. The car feels worthy in a very honest way. It doesn't even claim to be premium. It's just a good, practical, well processed car. The instruments, the seats, the steering wheel, the infotainment and climate control, everything just perfect. Everything is so easy to handle as if you had driven the car for a long time. Attractive price offerings and a nice choice of pretty colours make the Pulsar very interesting. This car is extremely underestimated. A year ago I didn't even watch any video about the Pulsar. Maybe it has a bit of a shrinking violet. Thanks to Autogefühl for the detailled review 👍

Thanks again Thomas - great review and I like the way you present your thoughts and ideas on the car being tested. Without adding too much time to your already concise reviews, would you be able to spent just a few minutes driving the car at night ? It would be good to see what the interior looks like in a car and of course how well a cars headlights work when being driven. Thanks again. :)

I enjoyed this review on the Pulsar. I think it was very factual. However it did in someway miss the best features of the car. I tried five other cars before settling on the Pulsar. The main feature is its soft suspension. OK as in the review there is a little roll and it maybe does not handle like a sports car. So what. The suspension is really a feature making for a comfortable ride. Far better than other similar cars which I tried. Some of the reviews on the Pulsar say it its not very exciting to drive. Just they mean by this I do not know. Who wants excitement when driving. The Pulsar is quiet, relaxing and satisfying. The light steering with nice castoring action helps. The brakes are progressive and positive. All in all the Pulsar is really nice to drive. Lastly as mentioned in the review one has to praise the room in the car. I don't know where it all comes from. Most write ups don't give this car the credit it deserves.

I have a beginner comment; I bought a Nissan Micra 2001 standard model at the end of 2015. This was my first self bought and self owned car. It had 201,000km. You understand the image`?. BUT why did I do that, as a young single adult, why would I go so far back in history? , I will not answer that, and if you drove this model you will understand. My main concert at that time was efficiency and quick-buy. It was a hard and humiliating year for a young adult surrounded by modern models. ...yet today I can say I own a brand new 2016 model Nissan Pulsar, At such a young age. Would I have bought a similar brand for the same price? ... Show me anything that comes close to a 1.5 dci dissel with ALL the gadgets you want. This car did not only make my 48 month payment acceptable for my average income, but it actually provided me with a monster inside a tiny non-scary gift.... When I push on the throttle, I feel like an astronaut sinking into the seat (and I haven't hit 80km/h) .. This is a beast wrapped inside a chocolate surprise... THIS car actually changed my sad 2 years into an amazing 1 month so far... can't wait to master her!

Well, here are lot of people who writing that the car ist just “boring“. I own the Pulsar 1.2 DIG-T. And the car makes fun, if you want a quiet, spacious, comfort and safty car with low running cost. It is a perfect family car. And I have the Accenta Version with blindspot warner, lanekeeping warner and autonomous safety brakeing and the 360°camera. To the power, I prise it is enough. For example you can get easily to 90 km/h in the 2nd gear by putting the pedal to the metal. Even the soundsystem is still good. But the best sound is the blowoff by shifting the gears up :-D And for this, it is very good undercover car ;-) by the way I need 5 - 6.7 l on 100 km. My best scale were 4.7 l. :-)

I have i jst bought this weekend and its quite an upgrade for my partner from a 1.4 rio 2008> Nice features inside and very very roomy. Good for movts in the city, the engine responds ok. But on the motorway, damn its slow and the high RPM at 70mph was a fuel burner i think... 250miles from aberdeen to gateshead(newcastle) from almost full tank ended at slightly above the red zone. Overall a good car for my other half, The Niro is going to be the replacement in 2 years

Aik Jones i also just picked one up 2 weeks ago. I am very happy with the car, loads of space, comfy and loads of toys to play with. Yes the handling is a bit boring but that don't bother me. The biggest problem for me is not the fuel economy its the petrol tank in tiny, it just makes you feel like the economy is rubbish.

Super review! Gonna get me a new car soon, because some guy made my Toyota Corolla (2004) total loss after parking... Went yesterday for a testdrive, first Mazda3, then Pulsar. Hey man, the Pulsar rules. Spacious in 3d, lively engine. Paid 23.000 euros for my Corolla, new Pulsar with led headlights is 24.000? I thought cars are getting more expensiever....However my heart says go for the 190pk. Pearl White and with orange alloys :)

Danke Thomas! I can confirm. that the 1.2 has enough performance. I have the same engine with CVT in my Qashqai. The square consumption is 7 litre in town. On country roads needs 6 and on Autobahn 8. I missing some B-segment car from Nissan, something between Micra and Note.

Thomas a real pro you are : making or trying to make an uninteresting car interesting, I think it's rather bland in design, interior and exterior I'm 15 minutes into this review and I'm sorry but I'll finish watching it if I'm bored or there is nothing on tv. Keep up the great work and here's an idea can you review the new fiat sedan, which is a rebadged Chrysler 200 but still more interesting that the "No Pulse" Nissan Pulsar !

I have watched that video already. I also like the sedan more than the hatch version but thanks again for the info that it would be less convenient to use. Fitting a bike in a sedan would be a pain in the neck. Pulsar and Mazda 3 have almost the same axle distances of 270cm but the rear seat legroom of Mazda 3 is an enormous turn off.

Thanks Thomas, excellent review. This is again one of those cars that have a lot going for it, but still don't get me excited about anything. It's very spacious in the back and you can get a lot of equipment (drone view cameras in this class of car, wow!) for a very reasonable price. The outside is still ok, but the inside is very, well, functional and bland. You hit the nail on the head with your remark about 'van like' features, in this case also in the sense that it's functional but not very worthy. Sometimes cars like this can surprise you after driving it for a while, in that it basically drives so much better than you expected. But that doesn't really seem to be the case here either. So, my head says yes and my heart says no! :-)

+artemusje2 Yes that last sentence, expecially when it comes to cars something that comes up a lot. Btw. the van-like experience does come with a good overview all around. Something that a lot of the coupé-esk designed competitors don't have. But they look better.

+L.GH. Djoetma I guess at the end of the day the choice of a car is more an emotional than a rational thing. Surely you narrow down the 'contenders' on a rational basis, but the final choice is made based more on emotion. At least it's like that for me. (And afterwards I'll find all kinds of rational arguments why that was such a great choice! lol)

This seems to be a car that competes on rationality. It doesn't seem to offer features that may excite the buyer as the Mégane and Astra do. Just the basic stuff but probably a lower price as well. I would like to know how do you compare it to the Skoda Rapid Thomas, and to its "brother" - the Renault Mégane. Also I think the new Fiat Tipo is the best competitor to this car. Even though I love when you review big luxury or sports cars I also want to see you reviewing cars that pesky middle class people like me can actually buy. :)

Very generic design. Looks like a dozen other similar compact HBs. I have to say the recently introduced Impreza 5 Door shown in NY is a far more attractive vehicle and Subaru is certainly not known for its styling. Thomas, look at the interior of the 17' Impreza Sport. It has a multi textured cloth interior that is very attractive with contrasting red stitching even on the dashboard. This is exactly the type of thing you have been preaching for. Going with an upscale cloth interior on a higher end (though not top tier ) model. When it reaches Europe please do test it.

***** All passanger cars that have diesels also have turbos. I know that. What I meant is that their petrols are naturally aspirated. Except for the 1 litre 3 cylinder for the Kia Ceed and the 1.6 TGDI for the SUVs. But for the i30, the petrols are naturally aspirated. As for the gearbox, I don't really care as long as it works. My MK1 Focus has 280k km on it, 95% of which was done in the city, and you can notice that on the gearbox I learned to live with it, and I really don't care. Others can't even put it in reverse, or downshift from 3rd to 2nd, I do it multiple times a day and I always get it right without stressing about it.
