Great review and ride! And I just bought one of these this past summer, a Cinder Red one. Gorgeous, gorgeous bike, and you're right: the bike goes like a rocket, and handles like a dream. A HUGE step up from my previous bike, a Kawasaki W650. Yep, I like the Bonneville/British Twin style alright. This new Bonnie is the best bike I've ever owned. Couldn't be happier!

It's good to see someone else who understands the virtue of a liquid cooled vertical twin in a British frame with legendary handling to match. Does it sound like a Harley.... Um no but isn't that the point? It's an all around do everything bike that I really dug before the new enhancements and now after the updates & refresh went from nice to by gosh stellar.

I bought my T-120 in May of 2016. The bike's been a joy to own. Surprisingly, owners are finding that the T120 is averaging 10-15 miles per gallon better fuel economy than the Triumphs in the new 900cc water cooled line.

"I need a bigger garage." You and me, both! I really love what they've done with these new Bonnies, I will have to take one for a test ride. That'll be dangerous. ;-] Too expensive for me right now, but maybe in a couple years. I'd love to go with the Thruxton R, just with standard/taller bars and standard mid controls vs. rear sets. Maybe they'll have a future package with the better suspension as a T120 option, hmm!

I rode the Thruxton R 1200 just today... It fulfills all the promises the Thruxton makes. It was completely enjoyable, composed, and just flat out better than the Thruxton 900. I found the older version to be just a bit sluggish and just a bit disappointing... This new 1200 is Spot On.

Nice video, I have a 2010 T100 with mods that probably take it close to the T120: Great bikelove it especially with it's 2 up position and King & Queen seats. Also purchased before the Bonneville a 2017 Yamaha MT09 with 115 BHP so just wondering how you think the T120 would fare with it's 1200 engine. Thank you.

The T-120 is a well considered motorcycle. Thoroughly thought threw, and performs tip top. You get what you pay, and it will absolutely out perform your other bikes. Try find a demo somewhere, and take it out for a while.

How did you feel about the foot peg ground clearance on the T120 compared to the Street Twin?
@calmoto9073
@calmoto9073 8 жыл бұрын
+Ojisan642 I never got near dragging a peg; I'd have to spend a bit more time on both.
@Ojisan642
@Ojisan642 8 жыл бұрын
+Cal Moto it's one of the few things keeping me from deciding between the two. I've heard that you can change out the peg mounts on the T120 and use the ones from the Twin and it gives you an extra inch of clearance, but I haven't confirmed that for sure.
@calmoto9073
@calmoto9073 8 жыл бұрын
+Ojisan642 That looks totally doable....nice call!
@Ojisan642
@Ojisan642 8 жыл бұрын
Cal Moto my local dealer confirmed today for me. Twin's pegs can be swapped out. Other thing I noticed, the T120 pegs are further forward, so there's less distance between the peg and the gear shift lever. Using the Twin's pegs would give more space front to back between peg and shifter, in addition to the ground clearance. $75 per peg, though. 😒
@Ojisan642
@Ojisan642 8 жыл бұрын
***** T120 looks beefier to me. The Twin sounds great, they both do. I'm told the Twin will get close to 60mpg and the T120 close to 55mpg. So not much difference.

I do love your reviews because you as we say in the UK give it some 'Welly' and you say what you think. Most other reviews of this bike have been a little more gentle on the right wrist to say the least. Having said that; do you not worry about the local police wanting to talk to you about your 'enthusiastic' style if they happen to catch sight of them on here?

I wanted a Thruxton R, but when I test rode some Triumphs the other day I got the chance to check out the Thruxton R and I just couldn't deal with the riding position. With other sport bikes I could squeeze the tank with my knees to keep the weight off my wrists, but the tank on the Thruxton so narrow I couldn't. My wrists took a horrible beating and it's a shame I really liked how the motorcycle got around twisty roads, but in slow moving traffic it was just awful. Of course if your core strength is better than mine and you can keep your weight off your wrists it might be an option for you. I am out of shape.

I'm just spitballing here; so, as I understand you, any substantial material item that depreciates cannot be considered an asset? Even if it will always have monetary value? How would you list it on a balance sheet? What would be the reason for buying collision insurance? Why would you set up a depreciation schedule to generate a write off?

+Jabsy You're confused. I didn't say "good" financial investment, I said asset, which it is. You should get a motorcycle and make an investment in yourself.

+Cal Moto You could see my confusion when you were talking about saving money and instead buying an asset. Monetary asset it is not, emotional asset it is. One that I've been indulging for 8 years now. My five bikes are more than enough for me.

+Jabsy Your confusion comes from hearing what you want to hear. I suggested restructuring a budget in order to reduce expenses and buy an asset. Although all my bikes are worth money, I'm sure you couldn't give your 5 pieces of shit away. That's why mine are assets, and yours aren't.

+Cal Moto I seriously doubt that. Your going to need a lot more than a Triumph Speed/Street Triple to qualify as a monetary asset. When you speak of assets without interjecting "emotional" before it, people assume your speaking of an asset that accumulates wealth over and above its upkeep and initial costs of purchase. So indulge me, what could you possibly own that's even remotely more collectible and financial gaining than perhaps say my Brough Superior? I'm curious to know.

+Jabsy There you go making shit up again. I don't have qualify "asset" with anything. You can't argue that it's not an asset because it is. Simply because you prefer to invest in motorcycles and try let the other viewers know how intelligent and wealthy you are, doesn't make you right....you aren't. Nobody is assuming anything about what I said because it's clear. Just as nobody has to assume anything about you because that too is perfectly clear. Congrates on your vintage bike, it clearly meets your needs...cheers.

+Cal Moto T120 used to actually mean Triumph 120mph in a time that most bikes claimed they could do 100 but could barely hold 85 and the Bonneville could stay at 120 all day long. Go to a local bike show and talk to guys that have the originals and see if someone will let you ride theirs. Built they made about the same power as the T100 does now around 54hp but the thing is they only weighed about 360lbs. The other thing is that no other bikes handled like brit bikes back then, on a twisty road not even CB and KZs could keep up despite having more than twice the power. And that's not saying they are slow in a straight line, granted modern bikes will outrun them easily but they are surprisingly quick and the transmissions are extremely long legged, if you use all the rpms you will get moving to the point that you will probably let off before you hit max speed. And there's nothing that sounds like a real Bonneville. And if you ever get the chance to hop on a T150 or T160, do it... once it gets into the power band you will be in for a ride... That's the original Trident 750 Triple. I'm lucky enough to have packed on both as a kid.. well not a Bonneville perse as the T120C is actually the TT Special or Scrambler in 1965 not a Bonneville.. My dad owns that and a 74 T150V. I'm telling you nothing sounds like that T120C that thing was built for flat track racing before we got it and it has probably 12.5:1 compression, big cams and most likely was taken up to 750cc... probably pumping out around 60-65hp.... when it's running, damn carbs are warped.

Bugger! I've been riding wrong all my life!! So you do need to keep the tach within 1500rpm of max and you only need the lower 3 gears! I've been wasting my time using all the gears and torque.. I feel so stupid...;-)

+Cal Moto sorry about that, after 25 years in the military it's all I can manage. Seriously though the bike is designed with high torque, heavey crank, lower compression and longer gearing. Do you ride all types of motor like that? I'd have run a higher gear and enjoyed the torque. I don't hang around either I just play to a bikes strengths. Each to his own and all that at the end of the day. ....but do you ride with so many rpm's all the time?

+rog5150 No worries, I'm sure I'd adjust to find the optimum performance range; but yes, I like to use the full range.

+Cal Moto Interesting. I read in the press sometimes that the author used one gear for a series of turns. sounds crazy to me. ..I like to change gear and try make super smooth by matching the rpm's. so now I'm just jealous that you have ridden the damn bike and I still have to wait 2 months for mine, that I ordered in November last year grrrrrrr.
