The Sportbike is stilled parked and the Thruxton R is rolling on the torque and the miles. Pretty light on fuel to, which is nice. 62 mph Imperial average so far.

Finally, a Triumph that looks right with my gray beard but reflects my still young riding' heart! Kudos to Triumph for engineering a modern performance bike that makes no apologies for its heritage. Jeers for teasing North American riders with all the neat kits that are unobtanium in the U.S.! CalMoto videos rock! But, hey, they claim 84FT-lbs, not 94: Still RIPS!

Good review. Impressed that you know of Mr Bloor, I grew up in his home village and he used to visit the pub I grew up in, he was only a plasterer at the time and was once so skint that he tried to sell my dad his wedding ring, he then got into house developments and he's now worth many, many £100's millions. As a side note I ordered the Thruxton R in red a few days ago and am falling in love with the bike more and more each day as I rewatch the youtube reviews! Thanks for the review.

It's a beautiful bike, saw it last year at the NEC Birmingham (UK), but as an old English fart, I just wished Triumph had given the T120 the same high specs as the Thruxton as I prefer the sit-up position. However, my heart still loves the RNineT, even if it's German.
@robertp457
@robertp457 8 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. The T120 feels as heavy as it is to me and more relaxed than I want, but that was probably their point. A R version of the T120 is what I want. I'll probably buy the T120 though since an R version is highly unlikely and while the motorcycle feels heavy to me, it's still a brilliant motorcycle.

I try to look at these bike as individual machines and not make judgements as they so different. In the end, I'm a triple guy and will most likely always go that route for my go to bike. If I get a track bike, it will probably be a Daytona R, or a GSXR 750. I certainly would consider a 1050 super bike if Triumph ever gets that underway.

Great video - Thank you Cal Moto! Took delivery of mine (red, same) 13 days ago, and... it's all true !! Come for the looks, stay for the power (THRUSTon R) and live forever in the handling. Couldn't be happier. $15,500 worth it? It's just some dollars per month for me and yes. Worth it : -) I wrote $14,500 but I remembered wrong - it was $15,500

@looseparts
@looseparts 8 жыл бұрын
+theunderground They sold me the bike for $15,500 - there's no sales tax in Oregon, so with 4-year plates and some dealer fees it was $15,835 - I added 2 more years of full warranty which cost $1,271. A lot of people say the added warranty is a waste of money and maybe it is, but I have other bikes to work on, and I know Triumph handles warranty work without question, so for this bike, I like being able to hand it to them and say 'fix it' -

+Mal Reynolds +Mal Reynolds Not sure what your point is? HP in the CBR doesn't make it any more fun then the Truxton can be. So to say oh my CBR is so much better and will destroy the Thruxton says what about you? It's a equally capable machine while maintaining a vintage look...if you can't afford it oh well no ones forcing you to buy it, but then again someone wanting one of these isn't going to go oh man but I'd rather have a CBR...they are obviously wanting the classic lines of a vintage look with great performance as a added benefit.

@calmoto9073

New springs are stiffer and need to be broken in. The roads seems to be in much worse repair than 20 years ago. Plus, your Honda's springs are clapped out after this many years.

Times have changed when riders say 'It's only 100 hp'. I remember when bikes that had 60 or70 hp were superbikes. Actually if one does not have access to racetracks then around 100 hp in a 400 lb motorcycle is crazy fast on public roads. Powerband, light weight, and fun handling are more important than huge hp numbers that are not really useable without going to jail.

Ride each moto twice with a few days between rides. When I rode the R9T the first time I went apeshit and decided I was going to buy one. Two months later I got a great opportunity to get one. I took it out for a ride to refresh my memory and I'm glad I did. It turns out I wasn't as smitten with the performance as I thought I was. I still love the bike, but it's not for me. Just my two cents worth. I hope it helps you with your decision😎 Carry on.

Is it more fun than an RnineT? Is it more exciting to ride than a Street Triple (or does it just look better)? I'm thinking a Street Triple, wouldn't compromise function for form, not old enough for that ;), but if it does ride better then I'd consider it.

+Drumbo French I traded in my '14 Street Triple R for this same bike and it was based partly on looks, but now that the Tx R is (mostly) broken in, I have to say it's different living at 6,000 RPM than 11,000 RPM, BUT the Thruxton feels just as fast and even though it's heavier, it still feels pretty flickable. Both great bikes.

If you like to take your roadbike to the track sometimes, then Sportbikes are ideal. For the road though, this Thrux R has more power than can be used. Adding any more power for the road would be useless ,like adding an ashtray to the bike. In the rpm range we sit in most of the time with all roadbikes , 3-5 k, it has more grunt available than the litre Sporties. If I row my Sportbike down 3 or 4 gears, then yes, it is quicker, but really too quick for traffic and roads.My opinion of cours, yours may differ

Reading all the comments, would suggest, your subscribers like to use the term douche on you, for riding it like you stole it....for me....being that the bike you tested had the letter R at the end of it's brands name,.... Triumph Thruxton R....surely that alone, means you give it a rip, in which you did,..ending your ride with no consequences being inflicted upon any human being in the process.....so for that reason alone, you get a thumbs up from me, with a double thumbs up for a great review of our bike also,....ride safe, peace out bro,...greetings from Nuneaton Triumph's HQ.... Depends on what riding position you can tolerate. The RnineT is more comfortable, but the Thruxton R I think is a better looking motorcycle. You really can't go wrong. Two great motorcycles to choose from. Ride them both and decide, though be sure to ride them both in traffic to make sure you know their downsides.

still falls flat on it's face compared to a Ducati 821 Monster which is 454lbs WET with 112hp for $10,995 and it actually sounds like a Ducati whereas no Hinkley Triumph sounds like a real Triumph twin... only the new Norton Commando actually sounds like it's 60's/70's counterpart.. The Kawasaki 650 twin sounds more like a classic brit twin than these... hell the freaking CB1100F 4 cylinder sounds more like a classic twin... somehow.

I don't get it.. The Ducati Monster doesn't even remotely compete in the same marketplace as this bike..

Onoff314 why not? they are both cafe style bikes with no fairing and a twin engine.

"It makes that new Norton look like a piece of shit" lol 😂 Does this one bike actually make Norton's lineup and brand irrelevant now?

Reports of soft paint already being marred. You might want to remove that paper key chain. It will scratch the paint. Cheap light weight plastic dials. How dare you call the Norton a piece of shit? Best components used on any retro, hands down. It aint all about speed. Yo. John Q. Public, this guy is a Triumph dealer. That being said, its a nice bike overall.

Had mine since the beginning. First one sold in Oregon and not here to argue, but the paint was soft - for a couple of months... Scratched easily and so did the polished aluminum top clamp. Maybe this is due to Enviro-regs water-based paint? Dunno...but in short time, the paint hardened up and the marks I had were easily rubbed out. No problem. This was true of my '14 Street Triple when it was new. Couple of months and the soft paint is no longer soft. The aluminum top clamp is also easily rubbed out and after the first day, I began to use a key fob (actually a turquoise ring my wife used to wear) that does not touch the clamp, so no scratches there either + the spiritual protection of the turquoise. Had the bike since Apr. 16, 2016 and have 5,500 miles on it. Best thing ever.

Glad it worked out for you paint wise. I do NOT dislike this bike and have test ridden it. But the schmuck that posted this video is a Triumph dealer and has no business trashing the new Norton. Side by side, you can tell the difference between the high quality hand built Norton and the assembly line Thai built Thruxton.

As for comfort could this be a daily rider

+C.J. Santos The non-R model has the more comfortable seat, but you could buy that seat. It's also a bit lower and less of a rake or angle. Those racing tires on the R would not be as good in the rain as the non-R version as well. For those reasons, I'd save the $2k and get the standard for my daily rider. I was comfortable on it for over an hour.
