The US commentary is so harsh and personal! Speculating about what she’s thinking and feeling. Just comment on the skating!

2016 nationals was her last outstanding performance, 2014 being her peak year. she's terrified now and it hurts to see her like this because she has so much talent. I just hope she gets better soon:(

I do agree but they also kind of had the right to be rude. Obviously they should have been a little kinder towards her because this was right before she went into rehab. But Gracie was not doing well maybe she watched them commentate and realized maybe I should change. Well she did change and now is back better than ever.

I've said it on other videos previously, and I'm going to say it again - Gracie needs to fire Frank Carroll. He is a relic of a bygone era and he keeps trying to put her in this "box" of being the classical ice princess, and never lets her be herself on the ice. That is ultimately what she is missing.
@MsJubjubbird7 жыл бұрын
I think Frank is good but not for her. Frank would do better with a workhorse who only needs direct instruction like Miyahara or Medvedeva (in fact I'd love him to get his hands on Medvedeva's technique). Someone who doesn't need nurturing and handholding and just needs a technical coach with some good choreography and a bit of tuition in fine art and expression. Gracie is not that skater. While Frank has done wonders for her technique and presentation she needs someone to hold her hand and build up her self esteem and be a cheer squad. I don't think Frank is into sport psychology and nurturing much so he's no good for someone as fragile as Gracie. I'd send her to Kori or Orser.
@imsommergewitter7 жыл бұрын
But where did he do wonders for her technique? Her jumps were a lot more powerful when she was still training with Alex.
@MsJubjubbird7 жыл бұрын
itskathrinchen They are way neater. She used to have big powerful jumps but quite clunky. Reminds me of how Anna Pogorilaya the Russians do their jumps in that you can hear them from the other side of the room, their limbs are just everywhere and they clearly look like they require effort. Now her jumps are still good (when she doesn't psych herself out and sabotage the jump) but much cleaner and they look effortless- the mark of a great technician is one who does it really well but doesn't look like they use any exertion. Frank is into fine detail with technique/posture ect. and all the elements are cleaner. This the difference between Katelyn Osmond and Gabby Daleman or Satoko Miyahara and Rika Hongo or Mariah Bell and Karen Chen. Frank said he wanted her skating like a girl- referring to the precision and refinement over skating with lots of power but less control.
@brianekay41496 жыл бұрын
Singing Ninja don't you dare blame Frank. Gracie obviously cared about being sponsored much more than practicing skating. She did this to herself. She should take accountability for her actions.

Let me point out to the sobering reality that the fall Gracie had wasn’t graceful, but it looks terrifying. This is the reason why falls like these are heavily deducted and it’s not one of the most attractive ‘components’ of the program. Fortunately Gracie didn’t seem to be injured though with falls like these, it might make me feel so concerned for her. Because she’s a great skater, and she’s always seem to have acquired great confidence in her skills, I often wonder if she’s doing too much for herself.

I hate when people feel free to criticize someone who has achieved so much, wanting to portray them as an overall failure . Every skater goes through a time in their lives when they nervously get inside their heads and cannot seem to get out. Yes, Gracie made mistakes. But on the other side of that is the fact she has been so inspirational. Gracie's problem is that she pays too much attention to those who apply pressure on her. But the ones applying pressure through the throes of high expectations are not as near accomplished as she is.There are those who demand "perfection" and are more imperfect themselves. How ironic. Seriously, what accolades do you have on your resume? Are you a 2-time US Champ? Do people pack a skating arena just to see you? Are your jumps so flawless at times that they are often instanced as among the best in the world? Did you go to the Olympics? Star notably in big brand-name promotions? And It's easy to burden someone with negativity when you're not in their shoes. And yet she STILL has made a famous name for herself in figure skating - mental health complications and all. That is so hard to do that I cannot imagine how she did it. At the height of her depression bouts and innermost struggles...she was able in 2016 to skate magnificently at Nationals to show people they were wrong about her. So yeah, unless you have these impressive credentials I wouldn't say anything.

I love the commentating from Johnny and Tara, they tell the truth and they've been there! Some may think it's a put down toward the skater, but I think they're usually spot on, they make a great team. As did Peggy Fleming and Dick Button!
@aliciascott42993 жыл бұрын
I disagree, I think they were shameful and bordering on bullying. They definitely were not spot on with this. Gracie was suffering from severe mental health issues and all they did was criticize her and talk about their own skating. Very unsympathetic and obnoxious.
