Damn! I got the 2015 RT 5.7L But I came with the paddles on the steering wheel, 8.4in screen, Sunroof, 20in rims, Scat pac, Harmon Kardon surround system with amp and (2) 10in Subs, Air compressor and leather seats. I'd say I got a great deal over the 2017 version.

I picked up a white 2016 RT Plus with the 18 speaker harmon kardon stereo and 8.4 screen. It sat on the same lot for two years and only had 126 miles. Dealer had 8000 off. Sure there are faster performance cars than the RT but nothing else on the road looks badass like a challenger does. I'll not be racing mine anyway. What I like best about it is not any particular feature. Its the fact that it feels like cars used to feel like. Its big, heavy, the steering wheel is beefy, you have to put some effort into closing the heavy doors. I like all that shit. The seats are VERY comfortable. The interior parts feel solid not cheap. One reviewer I watched said the challenger is a cruiser and I feel thats a good way to sum up this great car.

@@nickv5 There are many attributes that make up the desirability of a car. Performance, handling, style, comfort, are some of the considerations. Whether my ride is as fast or faster than yours, is really immaterial, on the street. There is fast and faster, and there is fast enough. IMO, 500 HP and higher is just insanity. In my youth I built and hotrodded Mustang/Cougars & 351-C engines. I poured lots of money in the bottomless pit. I'm long beyond caring if my ride is faster. I'm enjoying my 2013 Challenger R/T 5.7/6 speed/3.73 limited slip, low insurance premiums, decades without tickets. It's fun to drive, and can get you in as much trouble as you care to get in, or more. And it's in a handful of the best looking cars ever created.

My 2014 911 CS has 400 hp but less torque, gets to 60 in 3.8 secs. But it doesn’t “feel” as fast as the R/T. Do you want numbers or shear enjoyment?

Great review! I'm currently looking at either ordering a new 2021 R/T or finding a used 15'+. I'm finding pricing of the used ones pretty astronomical up here in Canada, even the pre 15' cars are holding price pretty high if they are not miled out. A local 18' F8 loaded manual is $37999 (Canadian$) with only 14000 km but that's pretty close to the discounted new ones. There's some pretty hefty discounts on the new 2020 ($5500) hard to find though. Absolutely nothing seems changed for 2021, at least according to my sales guy. That motor sounds addictive my gas mileage wouldn't be all that great lol. I think the R/T package has plenty of power for the street but could you imagine if they shaved 300-400 lbs off it, likely be a good stop light fight with the SS camaros and GT mustangs.

Hi Rob, watched your SXT video and was a little surprised that you vote the R/T hands down over the SXT. You seemed to really like the SXT. I'm looking at new 2018's of both models right now, (yes, there's still a few on the lots), and there's a $7,000 difference between motors. Both cars have the same screens, sound systems and leather. 7 grand is a lot for 70 HP....lol....Not sure it's worth it....Oh, you didn't have a camera in that one because it had the "fake" spoiler that's flat. The regular spoiler which is higher has the camera in it, maybe you had to get an upgrade screen package to get the regular spoiler, not sure. It was a 2017 R/T.....2018 they started putting the regular spoilers on all models of the Challenger. Anyway, excellent job on the video, just subscribed.
@TheTestDrive
@TheTestDrive 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Eddie - I appreciate the support! The SXT is a great all-around car. I agree $7k is a lot for 70HP, but it’s around a second faster to 60 (i think) and the V8 sound is really what does it for me. I love to mash the throttle and in the R/T it’s addicting because of the sound. But I don’t think you can go wrong with either option!

Hey Rob, The 2017’s Do have a back-up Camera if it is equipped with the 8.4 Ucconnect touch screen; I know, because I Own one. It was manufactured in January of 2017. But here’s the Thing; A lot of Dealerships make some changes after they receive the vehicles. In case you didn’t know. The dealers have been known to add some of the options per customers wishes and or what is popular at the Time, So that they can move more vehicles (more Sales). But mine came with leather & a bunch of other little things because I got a 2017 Challenger RT Plus. And that is Exactly what is indicated on the window Sticker. Assembled in Canada Brampton Plant. But the dealer definitely made some changes.

All the posts here saying 5.5 seconds to 60 is slow, yes compared to a SRT or a Hellcat, but consider that the much larger 426 Hemis from the sixties were clocked at 5.3, so a much smaller 5.7 L Hemi with today’s engine technology doing 5.5’s or faster is pretty good. I grew up during the sixties muscle car era, and can attest to this.

You made a incorrect statement! I have a 2017 RT with 5.0 connect and it DOES have back-up camera!! You clearly stated the 5.0 doesn’t have the camera! Now, the back-up camera of a 5.0 doesn’t have as much detail as the 8.0 camera does, but is nice to have!
@TheTestDrive
@TheTestDrive 6 жыл бұрын
LOL thank you for the comment! I was actually referring to the uconnect 5.0 in the specific Challenger I was driving, although every car I've ever driven with the uconnect 5.0 has not had it. I've seen aftermarket kits to add a camera and connect it to the screen, but nice to know it's actually possible to get it stock. With the new 7-inch base screen ("uconnect 4 with 7 inch display" I believe it's called) in the 2018 Challengers it's standard no matter what.

I rented a 2018 hemi challenger. The thing sounded bad ass but was so slow and heavy! A Ford Focus ST beat me from a red light, I was so embarrassed. The transmission is so slow to shift and the thing feels soooo weighted down. You would have to buy a hell cat in order to have a fast car.
@TheTestDrive
@TheTestDrive 6 жыл бұрын
chris Jordan I love the sound of this Hemi! do you mean a Focus RS? Either that or it wasn’t stock-Focus ST is said to do 0-60 in 6.3 (its only 250hp) vs I think I got 5.4 in this one and others have said it will do 5 flat. Agreed that it’s a heavy car and there are smaller/lighter turbocharged cars that will beat it. I got 4.6 in the BMW M240i in the rain. Obviously none of these cars can truly be compared to the Challenger but I get what you mean pulling up next to what looks like a hot wheels car and losing LOL

I have a 2016 R/T with the Tremec 6sp manual transmission. It's faster than the autos, I've had both. The manual cars come with posi rearend, bottle mufflers, which are a lot louder / less restrictive and 3.90 gears. I've run 13.5 @ 105 vs 14.1 @ 100 in the auto. The only upgrades I've done is a CAI and a Hurst pistol grip shifter.

You are dead wrong. There is no way the 6-speed gearing in the manual is faster than the 8-sped gearing in the auto. I don’t care how fast you can shift, you can not possibly outshift the ZF 8spd computer. I have had six V8 Challengers, I shift lightning fast, but could never even get close to the 8-sped of my 2016 RT. The proof is all over the net.

I always suspect there's some enhancement but this Hemi sounds just as good from outside the car as it does from the inside.

I have a 2017 392 RT - there is definitely no fake exhaust enhancement through the stereo in my car (unlike the Ecoboost Mustang and BMW that rely on that very pathetic tech). I believe the 5.7 hemi is the same, i.e what you hear is real.

That T/A plus in my profile it's mine. I did today with a trunk full of sh..... a full tank of 87 octane gas, and a heavy passenger on my side in a winter cold day, normal mode everything, stock everything, and without push the car to much 5.6 seconds. Oh, by the way, it is a 5.7 liters. It is not a 392. Taking all the way off the car and putting 93 octane gas, sport mode, nice hot weather to improve traction, i could definetly low the 5 seconds. Besides, in my opinion, the way the challenger looks is unique man ( not genesis, or camaro, or mustang ) Japanese cars or korean cars, those are toys. Chevy and ford have forgotten what a muscle car is about. They are getting lighter, smaller, and more kind of modern commercial pretty ladies car. At least that is my opinion. The way a challenger looks is the way the ancient american muscle cars used to look like. The spirit of the american muscle cars is alive in the Dodge Challenger.
