Since this truck has 7 cameras or whatever, it would be nice to integrate them into the security system. For example, when some bastard door dings you the cameras turn on and record.
@barfman7767
@barfman7767 7 жыл бұрын
Cameras should always be on constant record... it should auto save the previous first 30 seconds from when the first "bump" occurs via shock sensor applied to the usual "accident prone" areas such as bumpers, front fender, rear fender, quarter panels, doors and maybe to continue to record 1 minute after. Then the system should auto save with time and date and coordinates auto stamped onto video. That way, you have the entire footage of the accident to determine who is at fault, perfect for disputes. The system should have a switch embedded at all truck/car access points where the hood, doors, tailgate, gets shut or slammed so it won't generate a false positive. It should auto distinguish from a pine/acorn nut, hail or a cat hitting or landing on the hood/roof as well. Then the system should auto upload the video stream to a cloud where the owner designates or maybe bluetooth or wifi or to a USB drive to auto clear the on board memory in the vehicle. The technology is already there, nothing new, its new in terms of applying the idea. I would buy it!

How could you not talk about the cup holder? That thing is awesome! From someone who wants me and my passanger to have a coffee and a water in the morning and a soda and a spitter in the afternoon, that is awesome! Can't wait till it shows up in the F150 as well.

The power step is a great feature and it works fine in the winter (I live in Ottawa). Just don't wash it when you wash the truck (leave it up) because at very cold temperatures the part you step on will freeze (turn into a mini ice rink)...did it once and had to chip the ice off.

Fords on top when it comes to tech and comforts.

But also on top when it comes to using soda cans as body panels. I really wanted this truck but couldn't get past the aluminum. F-150 is for a completely different user. I'll buy an aluminum truck when I see a bull dozer with an aluminum blade or a loader with an aluminum bucket that lasts.

all semi cabs are either aluminum or carbon. so they are just following suit. and chevy will soon do the same.
@xplmr1
@xplmr1 7 жыл бұрын
The difference is, semi cabs start at 5' off the ground and are not prone to door dings and traffic accidents, let alone a payload in direct contact with them. Semi hoods are usually fiberglass or composite since they get the most contact with debris or other vehicles. Don't get me wrong, aluminum has its uses like in airplanes and semi cabs. The one piece aluminum bed with integrated fender flares is another example of a costly repair when it would have been a quick swap with the previous fiberglass flares or even the (much less expensive to repair) integrated steel ones from the competitors. Now carbon composite, I would totally buy a carbon body pickup. No rust, no dings, riveted panel repairs... At least the frames are still steel. Ford likes to experiment with unconventional materials, for example back in the early 90's they were the first I know of that were testing and later using in production models the plastic intake manifold. Sometimes it works. Like I said in an earlier post, I don't want to be the guinea pig for $80,000.

I'm curious how much narrower the new shared (with the F-150) cab is than the previous model considering the fact that everyone keeps saying how it is bigger than the '99-'16 super duty cab. I hear that it has more leg room and head room yet the new 2017 crew cab has 131.8 total cu. ft. of interior volume vs. the 2016 crew cab's 133.5 cu. ft. Where is it smaller if all mentioned dimensions are larger? I assumed it was in the width. The total interior volume and the aluminum body were my main reasons for trading my 2008 F-450 on a 2016 RAM Mega Cab 3500. I wanted more interior volume for the growing kids not less. I love Ford Trucks but didn't want to be a guinea pig for aluminum truck resale 10 years down the road.

How does the back leg room stack up against the Mega Cab Dodge?
@rvninnorthcarolina3377
@rvninnorthcarolina3377 5 жыл бұрын
Ah...I can answer that. I have an '06 MegaCab AND a 2019 F250 CrewCab. The leg room in the CrewCab is nearly the same as the MegaCab...BUT the MegaCab has slighty larger seats AND it has the storage behind the seats that the Ford does not. Problem is with RAM in 2018/2019, you have to move up to a Laramie trim package to get a rear seat that goes full accross the back...anything less and the seats are a little wierd in that they seem to be a bench bucket on the ends and this weird almost jump seat with cup holders on the floor. RAM engineers screwed that up. Basically made the back area for two. Laramie or above and/or a MegaCab is the only way you can get a true three person rear seat. Oh and you could not fold the seats up or down to make a flat area since they had permanent storage bays under. That also drove me to the F250 XLT in that the rear seat was definately roomy and would accept three people...and yes I could flip the seats up and collapse the underseat storage bay flat against to floor. Oh, and I did not have to get a premium package to get that configuration.

Ford has stated that the torque is 925 on the 2017 6.7L Diesel. However, Ford is now stating 975 at the Hershey, PA RV show this weekend. I advised Ford on this, error? However, I spoke with a Ford salesman and that figure may go up to 985 depending on what Ram does. Have you heard anything?

It DOES NOT have more head room. I'm 6'3" with a longer torso than most guys. The older Superduty was just fine for me. The new truck has a shorter cab height wise. It's longer and wider, which is nice. But for those of us with longer torsos... it's short. I have to duck my head way down when entering and exiting this 2017 truck.

Disagree and I am an old guy. When I started driving in the 70's, cars that were at 100,000 miles were considered used up. They generally used oil and maybe burned it and they lost horsepower at this stage. Oh they existed but they were relegated to junker status. Cars that were considered High Mileage were generally cars about 50 to 60 thousand miles showing. The reason simple was that cars were not built as well and tolerances were loose so cars just wore out sooner. They got terrible gas mileage, terrible emissions and when the EPA started to ramp up regulation they de-tuned the motors and put all sorts of pollution pumps and controls that basically make a big V8 have less horsepower than today's KIA 4cyl. Back in the hay day of muscle cars, a hot car like a Chevy Chevelle with a 396 generating 350 HP..something that many V6's are able to generate today...in the late 70's a 350 Chevy was relegated to 185HP because of pollution controls. Today a Chevy Camaro SS starts at 450HP and goes from there with options (650 with supercharger!)...all with remarkably better MPG and emissions. This has all come about via technology. Look at the safety features. Lighting for night driving, collision avoidance, etc...something not possible 20 years ago. I have an '06 RAM MegaCab with 150K on a 5.7 Hemi. It runs strong, burns no oil, and does everything it did when I first bought it. I know people with trucks and cars that are in the 300K range and they are still going strong. The manufacturers are building them better. Simple. Us old guys remember the crap that came out of Detroit in the 70's and 80's. Sluggish boxy cars that drove poorly and were broken the day they came off the line. Bad paint, rusting within a year, and more....Today we have cars that will last hundreds of thousands miles, have great performance and pollute less. Whats wrong with that? My new F2019 F20 is a marvel to drive...I thought my Ram was the bomb and this thing smokes it. Oh, I still have my RAM and I plan to keep it...I looked at the new Rams too and if not for a sucky dealer network in my area, I would have strongly considered. GM burned me too many times...maybe just bad luck...but I got three lemons from them over the years and I am done with brand. Expensive to fix...I guess. I would like to do the math and see what the cost of the transmission replacement cost for a 1990 F250 and a 2017 F250 and see what the cost percentage is against the purchase price. Everything has gone up in price so it may seem like more but everything including salaries have risen so it is relative. I am not going to do it but I suspect the cost of a repair back in the day hurt just as much as one today. Heck...I remember paying $.30 a gallon and that was in the 70's. 5 Dollars of gas was almost a tank full in my CJ5....

Ford has definitely lost their vision on heavy duty trucks. While trying to compete in the market of heavy duties, they forgot their line up is not for luxury. These trucks are simply ridiculous... no one who owns a heavy duty needs an automatic tailgate, we have arms for that and we like hard work and enjoy it. No one who owns a heavy duty needs it for comfort or going around the corner fast, we want them to last for decades and hit the million mile mark twice. No one who owns a heavy duty will be buying one of these...we didn't ask for a tall minivan from Mercedes. The list price on the title of my 1991 Ford F-350 is 17k dollars...maybe ford should go back to their history department and learn some of their own.

Oh by the way I have a link to a website that sells bed sides for those rusty hunk of shits because theres nothing worse than having 7 years of payments on a truck thats rusting out with 5 years of payments left. But the motor is good I guess. You could install it on your garden tractor or something after the truck rusts out. GOOOOO CUMMINS LOL
