The 2017 KTM Super Duke GT is an Unholy Monster that you want in your garage!

Cal - Never get tired of watching your reviews. I bought this bike in 2017 at your advisement, versus an S1000XR, we discussed below back then. I could not be happier with my 1290 GT. It is a Monster, but a Gentle Giant. It's perfection, and literally puts a huge smile on my face every time I ride it. If anyone reading this is on the fence about purchasing one, you will not regret it! Amazing. Reach out and I will be happy to discuss and answer any questions.

It is great to watch Mr Moto's videos. He rips every bike around and gives you a sense of what the bikes can do. If I watch one more putz on a ride review say " Wow look at the automatic windshield,it goes up and down" I will gladly step into the hangmans noose. Cal Moto is the man....

Great to have you back my friend - missed you!! Like the look of that beast and it sounds great spinning through the gears with that quickshifter. Just watched your Speed Triple vid through the bends though - and I know which one I would want out of the two!

Hey Cal, I ended up buying a new '17 a couple of days ago. Just an incredibly Amazing machine! The power is so ready, but smooth and manageable. Was between this and an XR, and definitely feel I made the right choice. It's so nimble and sounds amazing as well, even with stock. Thanks as always for the awesome reviews. Stay safe, man!

Those bags are carefully designed, each carries a *large* full-face helmet, like a glove, if you turn it upside-down and backwards. No accident.

I toured a bunch on my 07 Super Duke from the Appalachians, Texas and thru the Rockies. Loved it. Right tool for the job. You asked why not buy this GT? -My main reason why I would not buy one when putting plenty of miles touring would be the lack of a large dealership network. I lucked out in that the few time that something did go wrong i was close enough to a dealership to limp to it. But it would have been a bitch if I was to far away from one! Thats why I tour on an Yamaha FJ-09. BTW I kept the SD because it is a great bike and such a fantastic motor.

Cal...Great review, as always, Thank you! Quick question - I have a '15 FJ09 that I love, but am looking to step up to a top tier bike. Pretty much narrowed down to SD GT, or S1000XR (I think).....back to the question......for all out just "every time I ride this thing, it puts a giant smile on my face, knowing that I gave my left nut to own it...".....which one would you say is the all round better bike...? A little information - It will not be my commuter bike, 99% of my riding is leisure, live in suburbs of Houston, so some slabbing to get out and away to the fun roads, typical day rides are 250 miles or so, occasional weekend trips to the Texas Hill Country......your thoughts...?? Thanks, man....and keep up the great NO BS reviews..!!
@calmoto90737 жыл бұрын
Both bikes are truly remarkable. That said, the KTM really appeals to my right brain nature. It still retains a raw simian caveman undertone to me that the BMW doesn't. Hope this helps.

I'm in love... Imo they should have left the quick shifter and slipper clutch out, and made the price $1000 less. I happen to have my own built in quick shifter and slipper clutch, so I'm not enthused or impressed with such ancillary novelties. Maybe on a race bike, but on a GT? I think not. Anyway, nice video, good work. Thanks.

Hey, Cal - One difference I note between the GT and the R is the semi-active suspension available in the GT, not the R. Do you notice that, or think it makes a difference between the two bikes? Good to see you back in the KZfaq saddle again.
@calmoto90737 жыл бұрын
On this demo the road is so smooth it's not really that noticeable; however, as road conditions and speeds change, it's like having perfectly tuned suspension all the time. Cheers.
@gregorybigg89247 жыл бұрын
Feels smoother because it's detuned to 160bhp not the full fat power of the superduke R

Why I wouldn't: 1. No luggage rack 2. Playdoh saddlebags 3. No centerstand 4. All that power is useless on roads I like to ride. 5. Too much money for too little I care about. Good to see you back at it.
@oldhairpin7 жыл бұрын
1. Ventura do their luggage system for it 2. They are very useful actually if you use packing cubes. Suitable for 2 up touring for 10 days with pillion wearing a 20litre rucksack 3. That's just extra weight ;-)
@saddle8bag7 жыл бұрын
It makes 180 hp. Watching Cal, it sounded like he was short shifting the thing and had it over 100 mph by 3rd gear in a few seconds. I'm thinking it could still manage to puff its way up a hill lugging a centerstand ;)
@oldhairpin7 жыл бұрын
Fair point! It's actually quite short geared and the highest I've seen is 167mph and it was still pulling, but, to get there you have to rev out 5th which is about 127? because 6th is so long it won't pull that hard. it's more of an overdrive 6th
@mugwump587 жыл бұрын
I've yet to see a posting on line with the thing loaded down, ie. tent ect.... looks like it's for credit card touring. When I see the posts about it I always question why didn't you just get a Super Duke? I had high hopes.
@oldhairpin7 жыл бұрын
just because you haven't seen a post doesn't mean you can't do it. 2 up, 3,000 miles and it was great with a 20ltr backpack for the pillion. replace pillion with tent
