Great review I absolutely love my 17 XRX Low and its in the same colour matt silver which was introduced for this year, I can't see it in the colour options for the new XR range which makes these a bit special, in my mind anyway. The screen seems to be the biggest issue but looks like the new models have a bigger and more adjustable screen so that will be a welcome upgrade for most. Looking forward to your follow up reviews.

After much head scratching and shopping round this time last year I bought a new 800 XRT. In the end your review of that bike was the clincher. And I haven't regretted it. I live on Jersey where the speed limit is 40mph but this bike is perfect for the roads here. Nimble enough to filter on our busy roads and entertaining for my admittedly short commute. Just a couple of months ago I took the ferry to St Malo where I embarked on a lengthy road trip to Monza and back. The bike was perfect for the trip. Fast enough and certainly comfortable enough too (with the addition of an airwolf seat and screen spoiler). I think without the screen spoiler the trip would have been much harder - the screen is useless and flexs way too much at speed. The cruise control is a godsend - will never buy a bike without after this. The only niggles I've had are the paint bubbling on the engine casing (which was replaced under warranty), and a battery failure at 11 months. That said a warning light is now starting to come on for brief periods so that will be looked at very shortly! But overall I love this bike. With better wind protection it would be perfect. Thanks for all the reviews TMF!

I 've got mine since march and covered about 12.000 miles on it (around 19.500 km, because I 'm Belgian :-)), and it's flawless in my opinion, never let me down. Although I might trade it in for the 2018 version because of the TFT and the Brembo brakes (coming from a street triple I found the front brake a bit mushy). I also like the led lights, and It seems that the windshield is much bigger. Because they also changed a lot on the engine, I might wait for another year to be sure there it is as trusty as the previous generations Tigers. My son works and lives in Brighton and I've discovered some nice roads in that area, so maybe next time when I visit your country, I will do this with the Tiger. I wrote a few comments in the past on your KZfaq-post, but always forgot to mention how much I appreciate your reviews. Thanks a lot and keep up the great work!

I actually like it (the design of the body), thanks for all these reviews. I'm definitely adding it to my decision making next bike. Two things though, filtering through traffic and the wind protection (If one can replace or customize it for a wider one).

In simple triumph make xr's and xc's more road or more off-road focused respectively. The third letter denotes the "trip level" i.e more auxiliary sockets etc as standard. I rode my dads xrt with the seat in the low position (you can adjust the standard seat) it was fine for someone of my height 5'6. Perfectly comfortable. Nice handling. He put an aftermarket Mad Stadt screen on and I felt it ruined the bike. It was so effective that my helmet vents stopped working and there was zero airflow through my mesh jacket. Genuinely more air is felt sat in a car with the air con on low. You can get the beak as an extra on the xr bikes.

And now Triumph has a new one. Personally, if I were in the market, I'd be looking at a deal on a '17. The guy that leads our off road rides rides an 800XC and he can make it dance like a dirt bike. A good thing to know about these kinda bikes is if the ABS and TC can be disabled for riding off road. Look forward to your longer term reviews on it.

Had mine just over a year now,standard screen is awful so added an MRA spoiler to the top and its cured all buffeting issues a much cheaper option than replacing the whole screen.One very small niggle is the time is really hard to read,type face could be bolder,small point.Best all round bike i've had,push really hard in the twisties you'll be surprised how well its handles,great commuter bike,high up,wide bars,perfect gear ratios.Can't think of anything I dislike about it. ‘20.5 degrees quite warm’ BWAHAHAHA! I grew up in the Australian bush and as a kid we weren’t allowed to mention the heat until it was 40C in the shade. I would definitely be interested if you could purchase a practical ‘cool vest’ or similar. Even with a textile jacket and high air flow helmet you have to be careful of heat stress down here in the tropics. Try sitting in traffic in full gear on a hot day with a 1050 engine between your legs and it can become quite uncomfortable in a minute or two. Those plastic ice freezer bricks work a treat with a few stuffed in various pockets. As always an informative and enjoyable review. I find the information you provide practical and without bias from a motorcyclist view point. A pleasure as always sir.

Great to see the review as always although the new GS850 could do some damage to sales of the Triumph 800 adventure range. I’m going to have a test ride on both of them but as we speak, I couldn’t see myself passing a BMW dealer to get to a Triumph one if I wanted an ‘adventure’ bike. I had a 175 Bantam many years ago.....now that was an ‘adventure’ each time you rode it! 😅😅

I gotta say...Based on my own experience, Triumph's triple cylinder motors are just a gem of a design/engineering design! So smooth...so buttery...A "mid" sized motor? O.K. I guess the 500cc thru 1000cc are now "mid" size? It kinda makes sense given the wide range of motor sizes these days. Once again Miss Flyer, a dilly of a review!

I had a 65 plate XRx until about 18 months ago. With all it's Union Jacks, I was surprised to find it wasn't made in Hinkley, but in Thailand! I bought it with only 608 miles on it. My problem was, that I already had an MT10 and as soon as I got kitted up and the weather was fine, I went out to the garage intending to take the Triumph, but almost always went off out on the MT10. My Triumph also had the 'beak', centre stand, the under plate guard and hand guards on already. It was blue and looked superb...........the problem was, I didn't 'gel' with it and nice enough though it was to ride and it's handling was fine, I missed the power and I kept wishing, that I'd gone out on the MT10, so I sold it. Lovely bike, but just not really for me.

Hi I've had 7 triumphs 3 st 1050s 1 explorer and 3 tiger 800 I still own an st 1050 in blue (stunning bike) I sold the explorer after 2 tours and went back to the 800 because it is much lighter and just as capable plus sounds far better with the arrow on it. Apart from the running day lights and tft not much has changed in my opinion. It's the same engine just tweeked same back light and same frame. I've fitted oem led indicators on my 800. Can I say I've had a 2012 800xc then a 2015xc but I've now got a 2013 road version and just added all my accessories from the others on it because they all fit. The rider modes are good but just too intrusive. I like to be in control of the bike and not relay on computers just my choice. Thanks TMF

Nice one! Was wanting to know what the XRX was for. They seem to go for a bit cheaper. Like the idea of a less bulky Tiger, with soft panniers, for occasional road trips, but mostly leisure and commute. I saw a button on the right handside, in some pics, that looks like the speed limiter symbol in cars. Is this so? Would be really handy with average speed cameras..

I'm sure it's a great bike, but since riding my friends 1050, I seem to be acutely aware of that Triumph triple "whistling note". One man's whistling note is another mans "whine", and that comes across in your video. Not sure how Yamaha manage to get a different note on their XSRs, but to my ear it sounds nicer. Great review-not sure I agree with the gentleman who asks for MPG and speed - I can get stats anywhere online, and appreciate your commentary and down to earth details. Keep it up.

Great review as ever; the Tiger 800 range came out in 2011. The screen question? I use a Puig touring (variable) screen, excellent improvement over O.E. Gets rid of wind ! The easy way to understand the different versions: 1. is a road orientated version 2. is a more off road orientated version, simples :-) Of course the 2018 bike has had an array of improvement. So far I've been keeping bikes about two years, but am thinking about trying to settle down with something a little nicer (currently a versys 650)....at least that is the deal I'm imagining I can make with my wife. Thinking about this XRX, possibly a Duc MS 950 kind of quality instead of my usual cheap/value target. I'm a sporty touring guy. Ride fast, prefer smaller-medium bikes to rag around in the corners while riding for 6-8 hours a day on 3-6 day trips (motels not camping). Thoughts/advice....other bikes to consider?

Hint: the Cruise Control enabling switch is a latching jobee, which when riding is not very obvious, I therefore leave mine on (enabled, pressed in) all the time.The add-on beak is only about £80 and is colour matched. Electronics include Self Cancelling Indicators (which work rather well). Remote Rear Shock pre-load is only fitted to the off-road variants (XCx). Cheers Gordon

Very good of those nice people at Triumph to put a silhouette of you slap bang in the middle of the Rev Counter :) . Although a Rev Counter is less important unless you're on a track day or sth like that, it does look very reflective. Is it a problem and is the rest of the dashboard the same?

I see there’s a brand new one just announced. I tried one of these out and concluded the same as you. Nice bike, windshield poor, sound disappointing, looks a bit uninspiring but probably a really nice bike to own. However when I tested it, I brought it back to the dealer and then took out a street triple. If you’re getting a bike for fun, theres no choice. Looking forward to your other vids on this.

Thanks for the review. I tried one of these a couple of years ago - well, the XR model rather than the XRx. I found it slightly top-heavy for my liking and, dare I say it, a little bland after the Yamaha Tracer 900 I'd ridden the day before. And I didn't think it was much of a looker in the flesh but that's a very personal thing. Seemed nicely made though. Got to be due a refresh soon though haven't they?

Owned the taller off road orientated XC for a while after finding the Triumph Speed Triple too cramped. It is a do it all bike but I found it unexciting to ride; the on road handling wasn't great (my fault for buying the XC). Long distance the seat is very uncomfortable, the screen was awful (tried various aftermarket items). When riding with my wife who rides the Street Triple, she could easily gap me under acceleration. Disappointing considering my cc advantage with a very similar engine. I also found at low speed and tight manoeuvring the bike felt very top heavy. Owned lots of bikes but probably disliked the Tiger 800 more than any other bike. Traded for a Versys 1000 which I found to be a much better all round machine, especially for taller riders.

I’m at the point I wouldn’t buy a bike (preowned or new) without watching a TMF review. Well done! My own impression of this bike is similar to the one presented here. However, I think the “character” of the engine is mentioned but vastly underplayed in this video; in my opinion it’s the bike’s strongest and most appealing feature. That said, even though it’s fundamental to the relationship a rider has with a bike, engine character is very difficult (impossible?) to communicate and very subjective as well. Still, I bet a TMF review could incorporate “character indicators” or perhaps a “character matrix” that more clearly communicates this feature?

Nice bike... I prefer shafties anyway, but I cannot understand why anyone would buy a chain-driven bike which *didn't* have a center stand! When I was riding more frequently, all bikes I ever saw had them, and I don't understand why manufacturers stopped putting them on as a matter of course. Saves a bit of weight, I suppose, but by definition, that extra weight is right at the bottom of the bike, so it would help with COG in any case.

@philbuglass4857
@philbuglass4857 6 жыл бұрын
At the expense of the rider! Let's keep costs down even more, and only put 1 wheel on the bike! How on Earth is someone supposed to adjust the chain with no centerstand? I was a lot more active in motorcycling back in the 80s and 90s, and I cannot remember *ever* seeing a road-going bike sold without a stand back then... Everything they put on a bike adds to manufacturing costs, and I feel that a centerstand is much more important than electronic riding modes, or colour TFT instrument panels, or any number of other things.
