CORRECTION: I mention that this bike now has a 10k mile service interval. That is wrong. Currently, its just the new Tiger 1200 that has a 10k service interval. The Tiger 800 range is 6k.
I finally got around to trying out the low seat Tiger XRx. Here is my test ride review.

Good Review, I took one out for a test ride yesterday and can concur that it really is a superb and easy bike to ride. Currently, I own a 2011 Tiger 800 and the differences between the two bikes are enormous on the road. The 2019 model is lighter, the gearbox is smoother, unbelievably as I didn't think they'd be able to improve on that much as it was already excellent. The new TFT screen is clear in bright sunshine too and the cruise control is a nice feature for the boring roads. So impressed, I swapped the 2011 for a new 2019 model, and pick it up next Saturday.

I am humbled and glad this new style is being received well. I wanted a bit more of a professional look to these, sounds like it's mission accomplished :) I did use that same background music in the Bobber/Speedmaster video, but I think I got the levels wrong because you can hardly hear it without headphones.

I think you can select any riding mode on the fly by doing a few steps: Select the mode you want, close the throttle and use the clutch. On the older models (2017) it works. Nice review!! I have a XRX 2017 and love it. Greetings from Brazil!
@Phil480
@Phil480 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings! Switching between different road modes on the fly does work with sport/road/rain etc. I think it's just the off-road mode that you can't change in or out of on the fly because it has to change the ABS. I don't recall trying it on the 2017 model, so might be a new thing with this one.

Nice review sir, I absolutely love my 17 Tiger low, you also tested the previous model, did you notice any significant difference in performance with over 200 motor changes Triumph have made on this years motor? I do prefer the analog tack and the feel of the switch gear over the new model but each to their own.
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, this one does feel like they have made some changes, definitely more responsive and the short ratio 1st gear makes the low speed stuff easy. I prefer the old indicator switch, this new one doesn't travel very far. It's hard to tell if you pressed it or not.

I am using a Sony FDR X3000 camera with a Helmic microphone, which is made by a US motovlogger called "#notagrom". I saw the previous model today and i must say they really look good and FINALLY there’s one manufacturer that cares about short riders! I must say a big well done to triumph. There’s only one think that I don’t really like on the tigers , its those stupid permanently welded pillion pegs. I heard lot of stories were those get easily bended during a fall, and seems they didn’t changed in the newer models. Apart from that, great motorcycle.

@Phil480
@Phil480 6 жыл бұрын
As far as I understand it, the standard height XRx is 810mm. Swapping the seat out for the low seat should take it down to 790mm. If that is the case, I reckon I would be fine on the standard XRx with the low seat. That would be better as it will give more ground clearance.

If there is a way of raising them, that would be a solution. Alternatively, the standard height Tiger with the lower seat may do the trick. My Scrambler is similar, as I have gotten used to it's handling more and more, the pegs are scraping very easily and I'm wearing them out haha.

the mpg varies a lot based on your speed. I took mine on a few trips and got between 55 and 65 mpg depending on average speed. If you're on the Interstates at 70mph all day, the mpg drops to 55 or thereabouts. I like riding two-lane roads at 55mph average. Then the mileage goes way up to 65+.

I once had a bike with self-cancelling indicators, which in my opinion are a safety hazard. If you spend any time after signalling e.g. in a large gyratory roundabout, they are likely to self-cancel before you want them to. You have to keep repeating the signal, and/or checking whether they are still flashing, when you should be concentrating on the turn and the traffic. That happened on almost every ride, unlike forgetting to cancel a turn signal, which happened once or twice a year. As you found, it becomes instinctive to cancel the signal manually at the right time and place, which gives the experienced rider a lot more control over his own and others' safety. Hopefully on the Tiger you can turn off this unnecessary and dangerous function.

Needless to say the English are always going to be biased, so don't take their words seriously. You must test ride one yourself to find out what's really like. However, I think Triumph building this bike with such a low ground clearance they've completely ruined it so forget about going off road, especially on gravel. I'm only 5'10' I had my legs bent, it's a very weird sensation, it felt like I was seating on a scooter, it's going to hit all sorts of bumps and uneven tarmac and scrape the foot pedals off especially into the bends. It didn't give me any confidence since i was always worried to touch down with that little sort of plate they've fitted under it, I definitely disliked the 19' front wheel, replacing the spokes, they've totally spoiled it, what a waste ! Thanks but no thanks !
