The latest e-Golf from Volkswagen is a great new EV. It's zippy, looks like a normal car and has a range of 200km. Over a week, I drive it normally to see what kind of real life range it'll produce. Is 200 kms enough or will it give me range anxiety?

This was great that you pushed it to see how far you could get...great to see the whole family get into the video

Thanks, I hope it made sense. Everyone's going to have different range needs but I really believe that the average person should have no problems with a real world 200 km range.

I personally have an egolf and I have been averaging close to 250km on a full charge. I do about 70/30 city/highway driving. I never drive in eco mode and just drive as normal as possible. VW has a good easy to use regen mode with 4 levels of regeneration. If you drive a standard shift car, you drive this car just like it which gets you the most milage. In the summer, I can actually achieve close to 300km.

I really like your video style. I have a 2017 Chevy Volt, and I very rarely use any gas at all. EVs and PHEVs are definitely the way to go these days. I love that there are so many more options coming to the market in the next few years.

Great review of the E-Golf's range! You even included the most important test: The passenger (mom) water bottle pass to car seat distance. We used to have a TDI Passat until dieselgate happened and it was always impossible for my wife to pass water/snacks to our toddler kid in the back seat.

Finally got mine last week and your absolutely right on how you realize how little you drive when you get en ev. I did my first road trip with it the day after getting it and I got almost 200Km witch is good since we have winter tires and it was around -1 we did have the heater on too.

So someone please tell me how do I turn off the really loud continuous beeping noise that occurs when I go in reverse with my 2017 e-Golf SE...Please tell me there's a way lmao Also, my google maps app won't narrate directions via Bluetooth unless I'm playing music with this app I use, I don't know why. Like I would expect the google maps narrator to narrate when connected via Bluetooth, like always.

Simon Carr I’m assuming it was near full but can t be sure because it wasn’t plugged in when I picked it up. It could have been driven some before I picked it up.

I find it very in testing how the e-golf (probably vw’s worst selling vehicle in America) gets the 9.25” navigation system, whereas all other models, the biggest you can get is the 8”... even in a fully loaded Arteon you can’t get the 9.25” screen... makes no sense to me. that’s a slick looking navigation system.

Not per day though. You probably don’t drive more than 100kms a day.
@leftcoaster67
@leftcoaster67 5 жыл бұрын
Cloverdale to Richmond Centre is anywhere from 38 km to 45 km. Being conservative 100km to and from. Given how bad traffic is, even modest re-gen you should still have 1/2 a battery full. The worse traffic is the better the regen dumps back into your battery. Maybe if you drive from Whistler to Vancouver you'd need 400 km.

Aleziss a Golf E Without all the extras a golf R has like 4 wheel drive and adaptive suspension would soon be left in the dust on a winding race course. Perhaps off the line but that’s it. There’s more to a car than straight off the line speeds.

A bit of a misleading video. If you have an EV you can charge every night and start each day with a full charge (200 km + every day) and you can charge when out and about as necessary, including at fast chargers. These type of videos are not the way people most people use EVs. This kind of reinforces "range anxiety", which for most people is not a factor when you realize how much you actually drive on a daily basis.
@EverydayReviews2022
@EverydayReviews2022 6 жыл бұрын
+GoSolarPlz Did you even listen to the video? That’s exactly what I said. I took it to the limit but in the real world. I’d be charging at home every night. Huh?????
@GoSolarPlz
@GoSolarPlz 6 жыл бұрын
Everyday Reviews yes I watched the whole video. Perhaps I missed you say that and if I did so did others. What's the point of the video then? Just review the car as a car. Why does everything have to be a challenge? Do you review cars by putting 5 litres of fuel in the tank and seeing how far you can drive it? My point is that this type of video doesn't help people to see that evs are regular cars that are useable and relevant today and not some future vehicle that the average person can't yet depend on... don't be so defensive

Great review! Yes, I charge my 2016 e-Golf SE every night and I would do the same with the longer range 2017/18 one (if I don't eventually get the Tesla M3, the e-Golf is a shoo-in). Having said that, just hearing "range anxiety" in a review is enough to put some people off EVs. People often don't see the nuance, so it's probably best to avoid that phrase!

200 is too short. I would want as much as my current car, which for a petrol car is pretty low but i don't go further than that in a day more than once a year. 400KM is the number
@chillout1109
@chillout1109 6 жыл бұрын
Onoff314 You just answered your own concern there. A car with a 200km range, like this Golf or the new Leaf, is perfectly fine for you. You say you never drive very far in your daily commutes. That means you don't really need a car with a very long range. That "once a year" long trip that you make can be covered with a couple of recharge stops along the way.
@pcote1574
@pcote1574 6 жыл бұрын
You got your answer ...400km once a year ??? get your EGolf now ! It s a wonderfull electric car ! 20 min on fast charger will give you an extra 200km ...and not enough time to eat ....:)
@jingyili9111
@jingyili9111 6 жыл бұрын
The only people that need an electric car with a range of 400km are those that commute several hundred km's a day. An EV with this range would increase price and weight of the vehicle when its absolutely not necessary.
