How to retract the caliper piston on a Hyundai with the Electric Emergency Brake. Don't force it with a clamp or you will regret it! Short and to the point. IMPORTANT NOTE: WATCH TO THE END SO THAT YOU GET SOME GREAT TIME SAVING ADVICE.

You are quite welcome. Frustrating, isn't it? Glad I could help. I hope you watched the video to the end and used Hyundai parts. Otherwise there is grinding of those aftermarket brake pad backings since they don't fit worth a damn! Big time savings using the factory parts.

Simply brilliant. I certainly do that no problem. Thank you for this short and objective video. Right on point. The dealer wanted to bill me $400 for a brake job. The pads are only $40 at autozone.

Glad I could help and thanks for the recognition. I appreciate it! Please realize you are ignoring the last part of the video where I warn you to use only Hyundai parts because the aftermarket ones don't fit well and you potenially end up with shims hitting the rotor and sometimes having to grind to make the pad fit in the caliper.

Did this using a 9 volt battery last weekend on a 2020 Santa Fe without issues. It’s sad that Hyundai doesn’t have a brake service mode in the dashboard menu like other makes do. It’s all a money grab as they want you to pay the dealership service department or purchase a scan tool. Thank you for this video! It saved me a lot of $$$

9 volt battery worked where the car battery charger did not work!! Felt much safer this way too!! And instead of the clamp, there is a cheap special tool for the caliper you can use with an old brake pad in front of it to push the caliper piston back in without damaging it!! I see people using screwdrivers while the caliper is still connected to push the piston back in and I think that is crazy and could mess up the caliper!! Thanks for the video, it led me in the right direction and saved me money!!

Did you spin the electric motor back out or just turn the parking brake on?
@usflagballoon
@usflagballoon Жыл бұрын
I don't understand the question. The video is pretty clear what I did that retracts the piston. Reverse the polarity and run the motor backwards. The "emergency brake" has no part in this. Sorry if I am not answering you correctly.
@travissimmonds7743
@travissimmonds7743 Жыл бұрын
@@usflagballoon I mean when it's all back together. Did you use the battery to run the electric motor back out or did you just turn on the ebrake and the motor went out to where it needs to be. I was concerned that if the motor wasn't where it thought it was then it might toss a code.

@usflagballoon
@usflagballoon 11 ай бұрын
There is no external adjustment on this one without some kind of disassembly, as you can see in the video. If you want to start disassembly of the unit, there are people that have said there are Torx screws inside some of them. This method is for people that don't want to start exposing and potentially start breaking covers, etc.

Is it the retraction thing on both sides ? I guess that is the auto hill hold (and the emergency brake) ? what a pain in the ass
@usflagballoon
@usflagballoon Жыл бұрын
It's also the adjustment for the piston just like the old GM rear calipers of the 80's-90's for the emergency brake but that type you spun the piston back in. with a special tool. Yes, it's both sides. It's easy. Another viewer said that you can take the motor off and turn the screw with a torn....but this is faster.

Retracting it mechanically (especially if some wrench monkey does it for you) could damage gears and cost you around 1200 cad to replace the damaged caliper assembly. Ask me how I know. The 9v battery approach is way safer.

Do you have to retract the electric emergency brake even if the brakes are not set?
@usflagballoon
@usflagballoon Жыл бұрын
Remember that the piston is always working it's way out to keep the travel distance short. The emergency brake push the piston out and then backs it off when released, but not back all the way.
