Just got back into biking after a long hiatus (25 years) and got a second hand 2017 CB650F partly on the strength of this video, your enthusiasm reminded me of why I got on 2 wheels in the first place. Spot on review great bike that's quick enough, nimble, reliable and it still turns heads 4 years after it was launched, sure it could have a few additions like gear position indicator, but honestly after 2 months of riding any bike it should become instinctive. I did look at the new Trident but just couldn't bring myself to paying £3000 more for a new bike when the Honda almost offered the same. Thanks

Thank you for the review on the bike. They are rare and I've had trouble finding a good video on one. Be sure to not slip the clutch at the end of a shift. You tend to be on the throttle before you completely have the clutch released. Hoping to see a CB650F in person in my area.

@Mr.XR8996
@Mr.XR8996 6 жыл бұрын
First of all, make sure that insurance isn't going to kill you on this bike bro. Furthermore, I totally recommend this bike mainly because it is a very planted bike (for safety reasons) and you will get great gas mileage which will be perfect for commuting every day. I personally rode a motorcycle to school for 2 years and this would've been an awesome bike to commute with. Just try and get one for a good price and you should be good.

@estoylaroca
@estoylaroca 5 жыл бұрын
After buying this bike and considering the fz07, I'd definitely recommend this one over the fz07. In the same situation as you, meaning I picked it up to go to school / go to places. One of the main things you hear from people comparing both bikes, those people are saying that the fz has more low end torque, hence can weave through traffic better etc. etc. This is truly misleading, and can not be further from the truth. The truth in reality is, is that the low end torque of fz is really higher (as proven by numerous dynos), but in no way does that mean that the cb650 can not weave through traffic. The comparison by other people implies that the cb650f will have a hard time, when in reality, the low end torque is already ENOUGH to weave through traffic. (Imagine, slower bikes like a ninja 300 or 400 can do that, then why couldn't the cb). What takes the icing off the cake is that besides low end torque, the fz has nothing else when compared to the cb. First of all since we both use it to commute, it has a larger gas tank. No need for explanation there. Second of all, it's heavier. We aren't using this to off road, we are using this mainly for travel, and not for wheelies etc. With this, it's much safer at higher speeds (I'll talk about speed later), and it's well planted to the ground. Third is the power delivery. Again, the power on the low end torque is already enough. The video doesn't do the CB justice, since he was not really revving it hard. But give it more throttle, and it's already fast. CB has a less than 4 second of going 0-60mph to give you an idea, even then that isn't even functioning entirely on the effective rpm range (which is about 8k-12k for 4 cylinders) I say this is a good thing really, since in the city, you really want to be extra cautious with the speed, and save the power for the highway, wherein you can really show the bike's power more safely. Fourth is Speed. The CB being a 4 cylinder can push out a higher max top speed than an fz. Although there are videos of the fz going 230+ some say in the comments that it was downhill, or that their own fz's can only go 210. While CB can go 240-250 consistently. Fifth is sound. The fz can put any exhaust they have, but it will still sound like a person rolling hard R's. While the CB650f stock sound will sound like a *MACHINE* . You can change the exhaust, but you can't change the # of cylinders. I know this may seem biased, and you can stop reading here, but let me just explain how I got to that conclusion. From a commuter's perspective, the things you look for is (1) performance and (2)reliability. Performance wise, again fz boasts of low end torque, which is in my opinion, useless for when I'm driving around the city, since the low end torque can only be an argument if I'm considering about popping a wheelie, not on overtaking (since again, CB can do that already). Since I am mainly using this around the highway, the thing that I am looking for is which bike would offer more safety. For the reasons above, CB wins. For reliability, since Yamaha and Honda are already both well known, this is not much of an issue. One thing though that my father has pointed out, is that you can clearly see *A TON* of people selling their 2018 mt-07's and mt-09's either almost brand new (less than 4k miles, some even less than 500 miles), or which were used just for 1 year. While there's no one (in my country at least) selling even 1 old or new cb650f. The thing is, (especially in my country where any motorcycle over 400cc is already an expensive bike) if you buy a bike, that means you're going to keep it for a long time. But since people are buying the fz's and selling them fast, then that just means that there's something lacking to it that people are finding (a lot of the reasons of them selling it is to upgrade to a bigger bike). Mind you, they're selling the fz's with modified exhaust already(worth about $1k), yet they shave off $1-2k just so people would buy the bike. For me, that just proves that the fz is really just a 'try" bike, while the CB is a "keep" bike. Personally, I don't need a liter bike or etc. since I've driven a 125cc bike for almost 6 years for daily commutes, and going up to 650 is already a big change, and it's already enough.

Be smart with your first bike, get a smaller displacement bike CB300F and really learn how to ride it. Like really learn how to lean it into the corners, learn how to ride in traffic, learn basic mechanics, learn until you are 100% "on top" of that bike. Then upgrade. An extremely high revving 650cc engine is too much for your first bike, plus like below, insurance is going to just destroy you at such a young age and if it's your first bike.

Converted to dollar, about $8,780. For comparison, the MT-07 costs $8,500. Those are the MSRP in my country. Considering the under $300 difference, it was almost a no brainer for me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in the US or other countries, the price difference is about $1000, so I guess the choice is not as easy.
