At this level Sloane reminds me so much of Kim Clijsters, that perfect balance between defense and offense
@ARZ1987
@ARZ1987 6 жыл бұрын
I can why people see the comparison between Sloane and Kim. I think Kim was generally more aggressive minded on court, but had great defensive skills. For Sloane her game is generally a little more defensive, but can sneak some big winners when in position. She is more about wearing down her opponents with her athleticism and then going for the kill. For Kim she used her athleticism for her onslaught of bruising groundstrokes. I actually think Sloane probably moves a hair better than Kim, but man Kim got mad style points with her splits!! Miss her!
@captainbryce1
@captainbryce1 6 жыл бұрын
ARZ1987 I agree. I can see why people compare her to Clijsters, but she actually reminds me more of Jennifer Capriati. An athletic, powerful player who could play good offense, but had a slightly better defensive game. Kim Clijsters was kind of the opposite.
@seanjenkins331
@seanjenkins331 6 жыл бұрын
captainbryce1 Capriati used the serve as more of a weapon and came to net quite often to avoid the longer rallies
@ARZ1987
@ARZ1987 6 жыл бұрын
captainbryce1 I never thought about it, but Capriati is a better comparison game wise...It is interesting because Sloane was a really good junior, but not a jr champ or finalists at any of the jr slams. I think Mladenovic took her out twice in big slam matches easily. Her game was pretty basic back then in 09-10, bad footwork but nothing special game wise (youtube her ), but she has made the most improvement out of her peers. It just goes to show you tennis is a game about improving a little bit every day. Sloane's physique has changed to a more muscular frame and it shows. She is a completely different player than she was in juniors. I think the turning point for her was when she was a young up and comer she attended a fed cup match and Venus and Serena kind of snubbed her and didnt sign an autograph. From there she decided to idolize Kim Clijsters instead
@seanjenkins331
@seanjenkins331 6 жыл бұрын
ARZ1987 She has power no doubt. I just think she has a naturally passive mentality on the serve and 2nd serve returns. If u hit a 78 mph 2nd serve against Jennifer the point wouldn't last past 2 shots

I'm soooo excited with Stephen's form!! I wasn't so surprised when she won the US open last year given her improvements to her serve, speed, court awareness, a new found ability to play as a puncher, and her backhand. I was really really concerned for Sloane once she decided to go back to her forehand dominated game with a bunch of random errors after the US open, and it reflected in her results. I couldn't see why she decided to go from a puncher with at most 15 unforced errors per match (which won her the US open) to an errant, average player who swims in their own unforced errors. I'm so glad to see that now she's adjusting and that SHE'S STARTING TO FIND HER BACKHAND AGAIN!! :D :D Now if only she can find that serve......

She used to be. I mean even back in the day, she still had the offense. It's just that some points there was more attention on her defense. The haters will say anything, so they just point out that she's a pusher. It doesn't matter; Sloane has been doing well now! :)

#KFF do you have any problem with STEPHENS? Your comment is rather acidic. Sloane's last opponent appeared very confident at the beginning, but was humbled eventually. I see Sloane winning 2018 Miami Open this weekend. I wish her the best of luck.

Espn is running an article declaring that Sloane "edged" out Azarenka in the semi's. One would think that the last set was close....IT WASN'T. ESPN is a JOKE. Vika wins the first set 6-3 (and Sloane even came back at 3-3 to make a run for that set). The last two sets were 6-2 and 6-1. That's HARDLY CLOSE ESPN.....and NO, Sloane didn't just edge Vika for this win. Did anybody notice how tired Vika was the last 4 games of that last set??

Please every black woman tennis player are not like those William girls,can you people show some imagination instead of comparing every black tennis player to Venus or Serena. Venus does not player like this Sloan girl, Venus is a Baseline Ball basher, who refused to use her God given athletic ability to do serve and volley that is where with all that power, height,and speed she only won 7Grand slams . Sloan is a more intelligent player, a little bit nonchalant almost lazy like, but effective when it suits her. Venus just can't adjust that is why she loses all those semi's and finals.

Whats up with Miami fans and their heckling? As a tennis fan I respect the mental aspect of the game and the need for quiet and as little distractions as possible while serving. Vika is my favorite and she was noticably annoyed with the heckling. She really let it get to her...then she had some cramping and ran out of steam...proud of her though she has been playing really well. And compared to the last match with Sloane...she performed a lot better...just gotta keep at it...and Sloane is great to, Congrats to her!

AJAJ ajaj- Just like Konta vs Venus, very similar scores... A normal first set, to end up tanking the 2nd and 3rd blatantly.

But there you have your afro-american representation for the final. Enjoy it, because you probably won't see it again until US Open. Well, maybe Venus is able to make another semifinal or even a final in between.
