The fact that so many comments are ignoring 0:57 where Pavlyuchenkova admits to walking over to Sloane's side to yell at her, with the intent to strike her with a racquet, is very telling. Sloane in no way started this altercation.

Stephens shouldn’t have made such a fuss, but all I’m seeing in Pavlyuchenkova is a nasty, aggressive person who can’t channel her anger appropriately. Being the bigger person would make her tough - stating that she wanted to hit Stephens with her racket and that she intentionally smashed a ball at her is not tough, it’s malicious.

Greeting to all. I wanted to make a couple of key clarifications for the people who are not experienced tennis players themselves. 1.Overhead in tennis is a pretty wonky shot. Especially if you are way inside the court, you oftentimes just want to hit it hard, roughly into the middle of the opponent's court, regardless of where the opponent is; there are too many things that can go wrong and you want to concentrate on executing the shot properly rather than on avoiding hitting the player. If you are in the position where you don't want to risk getting hit, you just turn around and give up on the point - that's all. In fact, there are situations (usually when you are somewhere in the vicinity of the service line and your opponent is guarding the net), where the best play is actually to go right at the player; in this case you want to aim at the right hip if they are right-handed, which would make for the most difficult volley. It you try to pass, there is always a chance of a reflex volley winner and, in the aforementioned situation, you want to take that option away from the opponent at the net and ignore the invariable boos from unsophisticated spectators. 2. The subtitle "I was going to hit her with the racket" is a horrible translation, as it implies intent where there was none. You can run it through google translate or ask someone who has studied slavic linguistics. What she actually said was "I THOUGHT I WOULD hit her with the racket", meaning that N.P. , who had developed a shoulder injury and who is not known for "abusing" the medical timeout rule, was so outraged about what she knew to be an unjust accusation that she was not sure she'd be able to control herself. It was also a strange spectacle to see her so worked up and break down mentally, being one of the more balanced and collected girls out there. As one wise player told me long time ago - tennis is game of cool. The one who stays coolest wins in this game. LOL.

I like Ladies Tennis because they don't hide their emotions. In fact they were ready to fight.

I don't understand why pro tennis players so often act like Stephens here. If Pavluchenkova had faked an injury and called the physio as a strategy... so what? Ignore her, stay calm and quiet and play on. Taylor did it against Nadal in Indian Wells and he was fantastic. Besides, you can't really tell if someone is faking or not, so leave it to the umpire and think about yourself. Stephens is arrogant, I don't like her at all.

I don't like the player Pavlyuchenkova, she's a lil bit cheater taking MTOs in key moments to cold the opponent, but as a person out of court she seems nicer than Stephens, I knew Stephens once she was so arrogant with everyone asking for selfies.

The chair umpire seemed so lame in trying to stop the argument. It was only when the tournament official came down did they back off.

I think the best part of this is where they shook hands properly and talked over it, apologized and smooth things over. Stephens was mad at Pav and accusing her of feigning injury and made it a big deal, and complained to the umpire. Pav purposefully tried to hit Stephens and Stephens know it. They were fighting literally yelling and arguing with each other mid Match. At the end of the day everyone will do things that piss the others off and they will retaliate. What's missing most of the time is being able to calm down when you have the chance and smooth things over with the other person.

Sloane is the most well mannered player in wta. I remember quoting when she was playing with Serena Williams that we have both the most ill mannered and most well mannered wta players on the two sides of the net.

That’s how it’s always supposed to be! I tell my coworkers all the time, when it’s about work keep it at work and when your anger subsides go to your coworkers and be the bigger person by saying it happened it’s over now so let’s move on! I work in a big facility and I get along with all except a hand full of my coworkers who are very petty and just hard to get along with!
