I had a '98 New Beetle- put 337,000 miles on it. The thing was a real pain to maintain though. Window operators failed 4 times, (once when the car barely had 20k miles), door locks the same. At 280k the plastic(!) tube to the heater core broke- dealer wanted $1,100 to repair it- had to disassemble the dash. A GREAT car to drive, and the driveline itself was great. If they got the small stuff right this could be a great car. VW's are the best driving cars for the money.

I wouldn't get this only because it failed the iihs small overlap crash test. If it was safer, I'd consider it.

Even worse is that it's not even DSG over here. At least a European steering wheel with the paddles will still bolt right on and work.

Correct, in North America it's torque converter auto only, no DSG or Manual unfortunately

VW are some 2 decades behind in the engine and performance department. Under powered all across the board. All VW cars are behind in power. I have a new Passat turbo and I can honestly say it's engine tuning sucks big balls

I am trading a pickup truck for a new beetle. These new beetles look really good. I test drove one and knew I wanted one after only driving 5 minutes. If I had the money I'd get the new Dune. Anyway , The beetle is a cool car for men as well as women. Dont let it bug ya! Ha Ha
