Whoever came up with the idea of fake vents and exhaust should be arrested immediately.

Yeah, don't understand this. Why not at least use them if they're there? It's like putting a window on your house and paint the glass black ... just makes no sense.

I Finn I have no problem with "venty" type styling cues, to me they are no different from crease lines or splitters or most rear spoilers that actually do nowt they are all just design cues and whats wrong with that. Does it improve the way the TTS looks, I'd say so. Exhaust tips are just as fake as fake tips really. Unless you have the metal of the pipes at least level with the extremity of the rear bumper they are fake even if they have a hole in them. I agree though on this, lose them altogether would be better if they cannot have the pipes.
@NA-du5vm
@NA-du5vm 6 жыл бұрын
Gerald Holley *or* actually make it functional. 🤨 If you think certain stock spoilers and splitters aren't functional you're crazy. It all depends on the car. As far as fake vents, not functional *at all.* The fake exhaust I'm speaking of for example are the ones on the 2019 Audi A8. I'm fine with the open exhaust tips with the pipes blackened.

@trilingualkid 6 жыл бұрын
Its probably provide more drags if those vent were actual vents, usually those vents are for aerodynamic or cold air cooling off engine parts, but causes drags in return.
@NA-du5vm
@NA-du5vm 6 жыл бұрын
trilingualkid here's an idea, if you don't need it don't add it. Adding it for styling just to make the car look more sporty or aggressive just makes the vehicle come across cheap especially for the price point.

I just brought home my (almost) new 2017 TTS in glacier white. It’s my 2nd TT and 4th Audi. For all you haters out there still teasing this car for being a Golf or Beetle, or saying it’s not a “true” driver’s car like a Porsche, let me give you my opinion: Audi builds cars for real world driving - cars that grip like hell and give you confidence on real roads - not drifting on a track like in all the comparison videos. And the cabin quality and modern tech are second to none. The TTS is brilliant and, at least in the US, more unique than Porsche, whose tired lines are an evolution of a 60 year old design (to go along with the age of most of the guys you see driving them). The TTS is far from a Golf. This car makes you feel special driving it. Oh, and it goes like hell.

L Taka Sounds to me it wasn’t in true manual mode. You need to first move the stick sideways to go to full manual mode. My RS3 never interferes with shifting when it’s in manual mode.
@no_fb
@no_fb 6 жыл бұрын
These S-tronic gearboxes have always been a weak point in Quattros, TTs and so on. They suffer from quite a bit of lag, and are bad at anticipating the correct shift. Slow down too much and they'll actually shift back to 1st! Worse, slow down or stop at a junction, and it requires a couple of seconds to sort out gears and correctly engage 1st or 2nd, chances are you will slow down traffic instead of blazing in front of it, no matter how much your engine can handle. And yes, it's still automatic and sometimes change in spite of what you really want. The terrible plastic flaps and the plastic feel of the wheel itself are always a disappointment in such expensive cars. Not so much fun as they could be.

Petri is right. There is manual and true manual. If you touch the paddles while in auto it will go in a semi manual if you put it in true manual you can bounce off the rev limiter. The S tronics use to not be that great. This new one is really fast.

Surely it’s no where near as good as a 718 Cayman though. They’re around the same price
@Gez492
@Gez492 6 жыл бұрын
alexaescht they are not the same price the 718 starts in the Uk around 46K and the TTS around 40k but spec the Cayman to the standard in the Audi and its more like 10k + more than the TTS. These cars are designed to be different offerings. Out an out handling the Porsche wins but its not by much and when you then factor in day to day comfort the TTS and a balanced mix of abilities, like full Auto box when you just want kick back and relax plus the virtual cockpit which is miles ahead of the Cayman in tech; for some the Audi makes good sense and really good value and don't forget, lurking at just over 50k is the TT-RS which has near supercar performance and tramples all over the Cayman. So not as clear cut when you think the Cayman would be nearer 56k spec'd up to match the extras of even a TTS. that makes the RS a truly awesome car for the money! I know where my money goes

It's a shame Audi can't, or perhaps just don't want to make the TT a truly dynamic and engaging driving experience. We know from the R8 that they have the ability. A gearbox that won't give you full control, if you left foot brake and try to merge your inputs it cuts the throttle, steering that doesn't provide the kind of nuanced feedback plenty other fwd & 4wd cars are capable of, and a chassis unwilling to engage the enthusiast driver with adjustability that's been the bedrock of great fwd & 4wd chassis for years - think RS Megane, Civic Type R, Focus RS. Great looking, certainly quick across country, and probably an excellent ownership proposition. But it's not a sportscar. And whilst I'm well aware 95% of owners would care little for this stuff, and simply enjoy a good looking fast car, the point is that they could engineer the car to be more engaging without alienating their core customer - and deliver something that could finally please the remaining 5%. Sadly, for true enthusiast drivers, I think the TT will always be seen as a posh Golf.

I have 172K miles on my second hand MK1 225 TT. I see that it is still a highly compromised and flawed design that nestles itself into the “sporty luxury coupe” range, rather than being an all out drivers car. Really a shame that Audi hasn’t made the TT into more of a dedicated sports car with their lovely 5cyl. The RS just gets a bit faster and more focused but imagine if they’d finally give the poor girl her own platform to work off of. I guess that would cannibalize Cayman sales though, so oh well :/

i am in your shoes at the moment... what did you end up buying? did you end up giving in to the tech and depreciation, or did you buy a 5pot that holds its value more? its been 6months since my colleague wanted to buy my 3.2 mk2, and i still cannot decide-_- the mk2 rs seems like a sidestep from another mk2, but the mk3 tts that is the same price as the ttrs-es are all early ones, so they are all 6speed dsgs... and my biggest problem with mine is exactly the too high revs on the motorway... oh and forums dont help... i test drove a tts but the sound is a letdown... mainly after the grunty, loud, shouty, and definitely headturning vr6... steering was ok, but my 3.2 is modified, so i know exactly what do i have to do with a mk2 to make it handle and stick better than a mk3

Don't you just love it when a non-professional driver whose will never ever push the car to its limits has something negative to say about its performance. If the TT could talk it would say " perhaps it's you the driver that needs to sharpen up". I just love how all of these reviewers complain about under steer, and over steer and how the car is not fast enough yet the only thing they will do is take it to the local supermarket and take it on the family vacation once a year. Newsflash: all modern cars are more than capable of anything these reviewers can throw at it.

If you want something pretty that drives very well then buy an Alpine A110.

Why did you have to copy the Civic Type R's front, Audi? The fake vents look awful

The mk1 TT "Was a great handling sports car" ?? No it was not. It was based on the very average golf mk4 chassis. So in standard form it was dull to drive and the steering felt dead in your hands. They are a gorgeous little coupe though, but never a great handling sports car. Thank goodness things improved dynamically with the mk 2 and 3 .

First 10 seconds and being told the iconic first generation tt was not good looking whilst the new one that looks like a seat or skoda or golf made him fall in love. All while wearing that shirt and rather than a proper black microphone cover someones lost ginger gerbil around his neck. No. I'll say it again, no. Not until you go to spec savers or start wearing Henry's glasses. Still love the channel but please do not attempt to do aesthetic judgments again. It's obviously above the presenter. You may have been taking the piss of course and it went over my head. In fact you probably were. Phew ! All is right in the world then. :)

What’s up with the “rubber band” tires automakers love to use nowadays? I dislike it.

So basically a smaller, 2-door Golf R with less space, nicer interior and all for about $12,000 more. Yup. No.
