I agree with the sound system, I got a 2017 RS-V white Manual for 9k during peak covid so very happy.

@@darbyharrison3876 i had a rental astra k 1.2turbo (110 or 130 hp) and the door speakers punched hard at low bass without panels rattling etc., however same can't be said from the tweeters which were quite underwhelming. Coming from having components in the front and 12" on the back in another car i would say the audio is good enough... however i got confused reading reviews and comments of some saying their car lacks bass, it might've had "premium" audio packages.

I bought a MY17 18 months ago as a demo with 3000km including the sunroof and adaptive cruise control pack for $20k. Absolutely great car and a bargain.

The 3rd gear on the auto and manual variants (I've driven both) is very impressive. Just as quick as 2nd gear absolutely no drop off

@@togone0three nope, it was fixed with Oil / ECU update, 150k on my 1.4 - no issue - LSPI is prone to ALL GDI engines!

Absolutely love my Astra rsv. Got it last year and went with the manual. Such a capable little car, for a 1.6 it has grunt. I just wish there was more mods on the market for them 😂😂

That's incredible... I was thinking low 7s maybe high 6s but not under 6.5s. A lot of hot hatches would be sweating at those numbers!

If the undulations are high the car at high speed on certain roads is risk of making body contact with road but we're talking over 100 but some hot hatches with even lower ground clearance no doubt would be the same or worse on UK roads, the car grips well and maintains more than adequate composure and rigidness

L´A Capone. Well golf gti is a 2.0 and is 1880kg and astra is 1.6T and is 1900kg. So the golf suppose to destroy the astra by a long shot in all areas of performance. But 🤭

I own an MY15 Astra VXR and had one these RS-V in auto (MY17) for a day through Holden's one day test drive offer. To be honest I couldn't see a huge difference between the VXR and this up to 100km/h. Didn't torque steer excessively either. It's quite an underrated car to be honest.

@Crian definately. Much more pronounced exhaust and induction noise especially in VXR mode when you drop down to 2nd gear. Mostly turbo spool noise in the RSV.

One of the most underrated models. The Opel based Holdens are great but seem to get hate for having a domestic brand name, that's absurd.

Not really absurd. Holden's reputation for poor aftersales service is legendary. An Australian industry watchdog had to take Holden to Court to get them to acknowledge it's total ambivalence towards it's customers. I wouldn't go near the brand!

Very under rated car, allot of bang for your buck. All for under $30,000. 0-100 are close to Golf GTI numbers which you pay $50,000 drive away new, very quick for a 1.6T auto. Hyundai i30 SR with a 1.6T does 0-100 in 7 seconds.

A16sht or B16SHT engine? Has it got 200hp? I have the 1.6 200hp vauxhall astra GTC. I have heard they have piston issues timing chain issues and injection issues so I am a little weary to keep it!!

@@CLIFTYPOPS LSPI on the 1.4 engines, changed with an ECU update / Dexos 1 Gen 2 Oil, I run 98 on my 1.4 MY2017 Astra and its been fine, over 150k on the clock, solid car.

Thank you PDrive.. İ’ve been waiting for this test for a while. İ fortunately own the same car. The best i did was 6,6 seconds on Turkey’s rubbish asphalt. İ wonder which type of gas you preferred, 95 or 98 octane ? Thank you again for the wonderful test 👏🏼

A lot of factors can change the result. The brand of tyres, the weather (it's the middle of winter in Aus) which can cause boost to spike, lack of spare tyre to save more weight and 98 octane fuel instead of 95 octane. On the day the car was tested I would say the odds were in favour of the car.

The Astra got only 200hp, Golf GTI got 3 options one with 220hp or 230hp and the Performance with 245hp. So I wouldn't say it is a "Golf eater." But still impressiv.

Yes, we try to test vehicles with a full tank or close to. We have thought about this quite a bit, because obviously having near empty might produce quicker times. But in the end we decided the easiest way to remain consistent is to go with a full tank (kerb weight). We are in and out of cars multiple times a week, so as you can imagine it's easier to have a full tank rather than pointlessly trying to waste fuel/time to reach 10% or 20% full etc. In most cases (but not all) we run the tests soon after picking up the car so it's nice and clean for the video. According to our Racelogic Vbox Sport, yes. We ran the car 4 times and this was the best result. Macan is heavier but AWD. Power-to-weight ratio is 9.0kg:1kW for the Astra and 9.4kg:1kW for the Macan.

Yes, we were very surprised as well. We did numerous runs (as usual) and the Vbox kept producing consistent results around the mid 6s.

De.Johnny this car requires 98ron fuel, if lower ron is to be used the car would run slower. I wouldnt be surprised if people tried to test it with 95ron and reported slower acceleration

@@Psyrgery I don't think that 98 to 95 would make this car over 1 second faster. My car has a 3.2 V6 and the only difference I get from Roz 95 to 102 is quicker response but not really faster. Only with 50% ethanol i get better performance. That's about 120 Roz

@@TAOSEELE a 3.2L engine is basically two times the size compared to this Astra. Turbo engines generate a lot, and I mean a lot of heat, with small displacement engines such as this one the 98Ron is needed or else you will get less power than when using 95ron. I am not english and I cannot explain why, but it is related to spark retard injection. I am sure you will be able to find more information about it on the internet, but basically small displacement turbocharged engines need 98ron fuel to work as the engineers intended (acceleration and gas mileage), these engines can still work with 95ron fuel at the cost of poorer performance AND gas mileage.

@@cadenrausch741 No I am not kidding, my sister owns this car. The upper panels are all relatively soft yes, but the centre console and rear doors are hard plastics. The biggest issue for me was the lack of refinement. The indicator and wiper stalk for example felt very cheap, flimsy and clunky. The engine is great in terms of power, it really gets up and goes. Much faster than most rivals. However it certainly isn't as refined as something like a VW Golf. It is a lot more noisy when it drops a gear.

Not really, far from it. Yes, the XR5 (ST Model here in Europe) is a bit faster, but it is only noticeable in longer gears (specially in the 100-200) Plus, the Astra returns a *considerable* higher Mpg, while only being a bit slower than your XR5

Could the Astra be a good car? Yes. It’s it a good looking and fun car to drive? Yes. But GM burnt the Holden brand and that’s why they are discontinuing cars in Australia. Sorry but I’m not sorry GM Holden - I learnt from my shit heap Holden Cruze

@@jspanga Honestly it really depends on the Cruze. The 2013-2016 Cruze SRi’s aren’t half bad. Mine has done 210,000 and still drives so smooth with no issues. In saying that the 2009-2012 ones are complete crap, would even stay clear of any 1.8 Petrol even to 2016.

Mechanically sound (though its gearbox went around 60'000km, warranty covered at least), but man the lag! You have to hit the throttle 2-3s before you need to go - i.e. going into a roundabout only to speed up once you've already left it

@@jspanga My friend has a 2012 CD and it’s so gutless, no punch or anything and one of the most boring cars to drive. The 1.6 Turbos that come in the 2013-2016 SRi’s are actually very decent for the price they are worth. You pay more for a VE SV6 these days yet the SRi would flog it to a 100 (I remember demolishing this red player in a non SIDI VE SV6 off the line). They aren’t like V8 quick but for what they are worth plenty of go in them.

It's a 1.6, you can't get a great sound out of an engine that small...

@@dexgeta.9940 that's a fair point. The new Focus 1.5 (3 cylinders only) also sounds pretty good. I guess a nice sound was not Opel's priority. For me it's ideal nevertheless, because it really doesnt rise any suspicions as to what's under the bonnet
