I’ve had one of these for over four years. I hardly ever touch 4000 rpm unless I’m in a hurry. Most torque is just under 3000 and mine is happy around there. It will wind up if you need it to though. I also have the ivan flash on mine. While it does help performance I find it helps the drivability more. It smooths out the throttle, stops decel popping and makes the engine run cooler. This is a great bike for the price.

Thanks for a great review. I looked at the Yamaha and was shocked that it had an air-cooled engine. I decided on the 2019 Voyager.
@md123184 жыл бұрын
Exact same feeling. I wanted to compare the two bikes, but when I saw the Yamaha was air-cooled..that killed it for me, I ride in the city a lot and air-cooled engines aren't gonna cut it. I'm switching from a 2018 GSX-R1000R to a Voyager! Lol

@Last_Stach_Standing ! You will not regret the switch. As much as as the 2012 Road King was a really nice 'bike, it spent so much time in the shop, that I grew frustrated when oil leaked, gaskets let go, or it failed to start (bad starter) right before a big ride. My Voyager has a 6 year warranty (3 standard, 3 more if you buy extended), more comfortable to ride, 103" motor, and 1/2 the cost of theft insurance. And the final push for me to buy a Voyager was that I bought a brand new 2018 'bike for 12k & change (in 2020), fully loaded. That's half the price of the Road King. Now, I have 10k to blow on accessories, fuel, whatever. It's worth it to make the switch. Ride safe.
@kellymc2394 жыл бұрын
@Last_Stach_Standing ! Hey, you speak the truth! :-) Once they get your #, email, etc, they NEVER leave you alone. But, just TRY to get the service manager to call you back about when the 'bike will be ready....good luck with that! Lol. My Voyager dealer has called several times just to ask how I like the 'bike, any issues, etc. My former HD dealer never did any follow-ups. Stay safe, Brother.

Great review. I’ve always been attracted to the Kawasaki Vaquero and Voyager models. I think for the money these are just great deals. I have not ridden them yet but I will. I have the Michelin Commander II tires on my Suzuki Boulevard and love them. Thanks for sharing your ride with us and as you talked about retirement and your thoughts on the different kinds of motorcycles you are considering I realized you and I are a lot alike when it comes to what kinds of motorcycles we like and what we are willing to pay. Ride safe in beautiful Canada.

My 19 Voyager has been a great bike. The value that it is compared to other brands makes it a no brainer. I will say the Ivan tune wakes that bike up in all the right ways. You are correct about the stock seat, most comfortable stock seat I have ever had.

@@athanbrotsis6173 Well, I changed my mind and bought a 2011 Voyager with all the chrome and goodies you could have on it for 8850. 51,000 kilometers and I LOVE it. Not as fast on the pickup and go as the 1500 vulcan, but it is a touring bike with a lot more weight. Seat is comfortable and I will be able to do 8 hrs a day in the saddle when I go from Ontario Canada to British Columbia next year. I strongly recommend this bike, regardless of the year if you can get a good deal on it.

I love everything about that bike it took me 4 1/2 hours to finally decide to trade it when I got my Indian roadmaster that’s a very well-made Mike you have no problems and they were right will forever. The low maintenance cost and one of the best seats on a big bike no need to go out and buy an aftermarket seat it comes with an awesome seat.

I own a Kawasaki Vulcan voyager 2011, Brand new in Singapore, used it for 10 years. Travel to Phuket Thailand and most part of Malaysia. The usual maintainence, engine oil, spark plugs, oil filter, battery tyres .original was Bridgestone, very good handling two up with my wife. The speaker was fabulous, cruise control, abs brake. You can ride this bike for long distance, very comfortable, no problem, engine is trouble free. It have automatic valve adjustment, air cool, water cool, oil cool engine. No regrets.

I have a Voyager and I really like it. I am an IBA member and also do very long distance rides. The Voyager is a lot more comfortable, reliable, and less expensive to insure and repair than the HD Electra Glide I used to have. Kawasaki makes some very decent bikes, especially for the money. I currently have two Kawis and a Honda, both brands are a far better bang for the buck than Harley.

I have the 2010 model I love it. It's a great bike to spend all day on and cruise the highways or back roads. The 6 speed and cruise control make it a ride. There is plenty of storage and I love the tall screen. The heel toe shifter is a real cruiser marker - it is a mistake for Harley to go with just the toe shifter. There's plenty of information on the dash or by manipulating the buttons on the right hand cluster. Having said all those things there are a few things that could be tweaked to make this an even better bike. The post 2010 model have an extra fan behind the seat to drew the exhaust heat from the riders legs - that was a real problem on my model in summer in Australia. Although you mention you have no interest in the stereo I feel that before 2019 they ought to have included Bluetooth or Apple/Android Play. I don't want to take phone calls and I have a separate GPS but I would prefer something better than an ear phone jack to hear my music. Yes I could get a Bluetooth transmitter but it would got the makers nothing to add Bluetooth to the stereo. My other suggestion would be an electric reverse similar to the Goldwing - this is set up at 5km/h so you can nose in park as required by some cities and towns. At nearly 400kgs wet it is not light and there is no way you can duck walk it out. I did test drive a Goldwing but couldn't bring myself to part with the $36K + on the road costs where as this ended up being about $23K on the road. I'd recommend this bike I rode mine whilst working on a 200km daily commute and have taken many road trips on it. I love that audible clunk when you drop into first - it lets you know the bike is ready to go and means business. I hope you ended up buying it.

Great review! I’m a owner of a 2006 Yamaha FZ1 sport bike 1000cc . I’m looking for my next bike and am looking at the Yamaha star venture , the Honda goldwing DCT and the Kawasaki Vulcan voyager but what really sold me thus far is your review of this bike. Like you I don’t want to pay 25 , 30 grand for a tourer so I’m leaning seriously towards the Kawasaki Vulcan voyager. I’d definitely upgrade the stereo though cause I’m a music guy no need for loud pipes for me but I’ve seen these bikes for 18 or 19 grand if they have a showroom model that hasn’t sold yet that they’re trying to move.

excellent review, as you say the price is such a good deal, I have a 2009 Rocket III which is more of a muscle bike than a touring bike, (she's a keeper), I'm considering a Voyager as a touring bike, and Kawasaki know how to build a reliable engine.....as you also say about buying a bike then spending money on upgrades, nothing needed to upgrade for my Rocket III, people who buy Harley's (owned several myself in the past) is basically a down payment on all the accessories you need to buy for the bike....

Great Review, thanks. In the touring world, I think the Kawi is the best bargain out there. Not that you would, but you could grab a 2nd bike with the money you'll save over an Indian or HD. Especially now that you can do all your navigation and music from your phone. Thanks again.
@highmilagerider11544 жыл бұрын
HappyJack Your exactly right. The HD Road glide limited starts at $40,000 in Canada while the Kawasaki voyager can be had for $16,000. So you can literally buy 2 Voyagers and have money for a trip compared to the cost of the Harley. That’s why they make so many cool motorcycles out there. There is something for everyone. Ride safe.

I've owned two Vulcans, the last was a 1600 Nomad. easy bike to live with, but I wanted more. I test rode a Voyager and other bikes and ended up buying a R1200RT. Different kind of ride, much better performing bike, but requires a lot more maintenance. I've had it nearly 10 years now, so we'll see. Whatever I get, it has to stow a FF helmet.

that was a great review but the 1700 has air ride shocks in the rear. i owns 2017 Voyager and i love riding it. The only thing that i have done to it is an oil change and a front tire change. run the air pressure in the front tire around 40 psi and the tire will not get that wavy look from the 28 psi the factory has it set at. i bought it used for 11,500 and it had 1800 miles on it. the person found that it was to big for what he wanted and traded for a 900 Vulcan.

Ivanizing is the only must-have mod that you should do for this bike! No overheating, no backfire, no jerky rides on lowering rpm, gasmilage is better...
@jhask644 жыл бұрын
I had the Ivan’s flash done to my bike and I love it also. The only benefit you’ve mentioned that I’ve not seen yet in 2 tanks of gas is the better MPG. I hope it has more ground clearance (lean angle) than the Yamaha Venture. It would drag even at very modest riding and cornering. I couldn't keep the Yamaha off the low 4600-4700 rpm's. rev limiter, so that's good news on the KAW redline. I really doubt this bike would run 120 mph in ANY gear so I'm guessing you were referring to KPH. Kaw makes a GREAT bike. A friend of mine has a 900 Nomad with way over 100,000 miles on it. I went on a test ride of a used one of these machines with only 13 K miles on it. I have the video on KZfaq. If you want to hear one of these engines with some miles on it, watch my video on your phone. Does Ivanizing the bike void the warranty?

You do some serious tailgating while riding. Two second rule?
@highmilagerider11544 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input. From the MSF and NTSA Motorcycle handbooks, When riding in a group of 2-5 riders in a Zigzag formation, you should maintain a 2 second following distance from the bike in front of you and a 1 second distance from the rider Diagonally in front of you. This is to discourage motorists from trying to to share the lane or mix in with the group. So I was not riding 2 seconds from the rider Diagonally in front of me, I was 1 second from them as your supposed to be. Ride safe.

The bigger the windshield the better. Size matters.

Toby is dangerous to ride near... he swerves quickly without signalling .... what if you pulled up beside him and he decides to swerve over like that... gonna go down.

Even the new models are old; Kawi has shown no imitative with this model. Drastically over due for an upgrade! No resale value here.

No resale value in metric cruisers/tourers in general so that’s not a huge issue

Nick Heinz I’m not sure about the Voyager as I don’t own one, but my 2014 Nomad 1700 had great resale value. Bought it new in 2014 for $13,000 out the door. I traded it in 2017 with over 100,000 KM’s on it and got $9,500 as a trade. That’s only a 27% drop in value. Very good value, metric bike or not. Ride safe

Nick Heinz That’s true. It is due for an upgrade. But on the bright side, it’s a solid, dependable, comfortable and most affordable full sized touring motorcycle. It’s only $16,000 new in Canada. I found the resale on the Kawasaki really good. I bought my 2014 Nomad 1700 new for $13,000 out the door (Canada), I put 104,000km on it in 3 years trouble free then traded it for $9,500 on my new bike. So it only depreciated 27% after 104,000km. My buddy had a 2014 HD Road king that he paid $25,000 for new. He sold it in 2017 with 55,000km on it for $12,000. So it depreciated by 52%. He lost double the money I did. Ride safe.

Why do you buy a bike to sell it? I never understood that logic.
@highmilagerider11542 жыл бұрын
@@patrick-pk9bk I don't buy a bike to resell it. I buy a bike, ride it for 3 years, put over 100,000,km on it and usually by then I want to try something new. It's merely a coincidence that my bikes hold their value. I currently have a 1 year old Yamaha Super Tenere ES with 33,000km and a Goldwing with 250,000km Ride safe
