If the 2019 season was less than 12 races long, Max Verstappen could have won last year. If we pick and choose the right races. Hell, Vettel could be champion 1200 times. How? By creating our own seasons.

Rosberg Sr. won the 82 title with a single GP win. It can clearly be done. If you finish second at every round and two rivals take it in turns to either win or DNF then you average 18 points a race, they average only 12.5. That's the simplest way, I imagine Chainbear can break it down in lots more ways than that.

Massa would've been champion in 2008 had F1 kept the points system of 10-6-4-3-2-1 used from 1991-2002, scoring 83 to Hamilton's 80. But this wouldn't work with any other points system, except the same system with 9 points for a win instead of 10, to the best of my knowledge.

@@Acrolyph It makes consistent results less valuable, which in theory is an incentive for harder racing. Like if you're fighting for p1, an overtake is worth 7 points, which is worth risking your 18 points for, but if you already have 19 points in the bag, it's not worth risking 19 points for a mere 1 point more.

@@josesammut9396 I can see your point but for exmaple 1 driver finishes p 11 all season long and one other drive finishes behind him every time exept for one race. Then the 2nd driver is in front. This is extremely cool. But I would like to challenge you to make the ultimate ultimate big cronch of possible seasons of the 2019 season by overlaying the previous F1 point systems as well. How many of these seasons would have been won if the points earned from every race were different. The permutation where hamilton wins the smallest percentage of the seasons, is the scoring system that should statistically, theoretically, be the best one, right?

Also people are forgetting that with a shorter season drivers such as Verstappen aren't more likely to win because they are less consistent and more likely to crash. As you said earlier, a mistake will have a much bigger consequence in a shorter season and as much as I would like someone else to win, Hamilton's consistancy is incredible as he didn't have a single race where he didn't score any points and had only 2 races when he scored below 10 meaning he will probably win the season anyway.

This is really interesting, any chance you will do it for other seasons? I think something like this for 2012 or 2008 would be extremely interesting since multiple drivers were fighting for the title.

This reminds me of the half-points race in Malaysia in 2009. Someone, I think Button, was asked if he was annoyed at only scoring half-points and said “it’s the same for everyone”. He can of course be forgiven for saying something, anything, to try and fob off the awkward question put to him; but it’s not the same for everyone. Those who scored points only gained half as many points as normal over their rivals who had a non-score that weekend.

It shows just how unlucky and of form vettel was this season in 2019.
