This week, I drive the latest version of BMW X5 plug-in hybrid, badged xDrive 45e. It has a much bigger battery than the last X5 PHEV and since the engine is now a six-cylinder, it's considerably quicker too. It's a great looking all-round package, but for me the highlight was the interior that is techy, tasteful and of very high quality.
The only issues with the X5 45e are its very slow battery rate of charge (the quickest you can charge it from flat to full is 7 hours) and the high price - my tester cost just over €103,000 with all the options.
