gmax876 he’s obviously got experience on the track. It was interesting watching the telemetry and video together. He turned just slightly late into one corner but still hit the apex. It seems to accelerate hard and sticky out of the corners. Acceleration was extremely smooth. Braking was amazing, the deceleration down to 20 mph was amazing. This car is an amazing machine and for $60,000+ it is astounding value.

No, this is thunderhill west 10 turn configuration. They have a 7 turn with the bypass running in reverse (although I've never seen it used for counter-clockwise direction) and then there's the whole east side which is a completely different track (except when running the full 5 mile course.)

Russ Hendrix, except for the possibility of non-stock tires, this is definitely a “stock” production 2020 C8.

Dennzer1 No the car overall was stock but they just put a really aggressive “track” steering alignment and Michelin Pilot Cup2 tires at a lower pressure. Z07 is the most track oriented aero package. So a z06 with 150 more hp and a far better tire was only 2% faster... put a better driver in that car and it beats that Z06 time.

@@MyRealName I said understeer. On the road and track video where he's at the limit the whole time you can see it pushing pretty bad. It's clear GM put the focus on safety which is a good thing for those Corvette drivers who are not used to the handling characteristics of a mid engine platform.

Mid-engine cars never use square sized tires. It definitely needs more than a 245 in the front, though. I do agree that getting a base model and adding all the aftermarket suspension and all that would be the best for track use, however. Does the base model come with a limited slip diff? It is unfortunate that the base model car also has different gearing, so the base model might actually be worse for on track performance.

@Cole Lee Aerial it's suspension tuning and alignment. Spring rates, dampening, ect. The quality and geometry are not in question.

@@Chilicharger665 having been around mid engine track cars and owning my own I can say that while most new cars do have much smaller front tires, that's generally by design.. but that's not always the case. My 914 when it had a V8 in it liked a lot more tire up front then it did when I put a turbo 4 on it. A few others I know that are pure track cars run just about square tire setups.

There are stock s2000s doing sub 1.30 around thunderhill west....... That's not right at all. The circuits there are very reconfigurable so. Wondering if something was either changed for the top gear bit or if he is actually that bad of a driver...........

I've taken my C63S on a private track day there. I've ran just 2 seconds shy of this lap and it's a 4 door luxury car but then again the C63S costed $25k more.

Serious question, which tire do you like better than the 4S that is as good all around? I think the 4S does exactly what it was intended to do. Does it get greasy after a few laps, yes, but it's not loud, it lasts a while, has decent feedback, and it's decent in the rain. It's not going to perform like a PSC2, but it'll last 3 times as long.

Putting more input into the wheel that the tires can grip, ei pushing through the corners. Which i saw none of. This is only a few seconds off the C7 Z06’s time which is impressive for a 500hp car during its debut. Its going to take classic front engine Vette drivers a while to figure this beast out. Its not going to dart into corners like the old car but it should corner and exit much faster.

@falchulk to my eye, it does look like there is some understeer in the steady state stuff and in places where he's not trail braking down to the apex. Looks like the fast corners where he's on the gas before the apex to stabilize the car have a little push. Nothing wrong with that tho, like you said a little understeer in a mid or rear engined car is a good thing. Otherwise trail braking properly is almost impossible, as are fast transitions if you're actually driving at the limit and not 8/10ths

REAL speed can be had for fairly cheap, and with some skills; you dont need to aspire to own some fancy ass new 400+hp car to get it. i used to be a car guy, then moved to motos. i'd only go back to cars if i wont the lotto or something - but even then, the thrill and satisfaction of driving a car just doesnt stack up to a moto. the safety factor and climate controlled cabin + passenger are fun tho
