The ZR2 Bison is Unstoppable!! Never thought i'd find a comparable factory off-road pickup that can hang with the Raptor, but the Colorado's slimmer width is a big plus on narrow trails. The diesel engine is packing a wallop of 365 pound-feet of torque, so you can tow an extra 700 pounds (up to 7700) buttttt.... the 0-60-mph time drops 3 seconds from 6.5 to 9.5. It feels pretty glacial on the road until you adjust to its power delivery style.
But then you start to love how it just surges forward without a gear change, or pops off the line in the 0 to 5-mph range. The six-speed automatic is a downside versus the more modern 9-speed transmission in the 3.6-liter V6, but then again, what other lifted and widened off-road special will top 22-mpg on the highway!? That is down about 8-mpg versus the 2WD regular Colorado Diesel, but for hardcore truck guys and diesel fans, this first-ever USA midsize Duramax is truly long-overdue and truly awesome.
No bumper cam on this one -- the gopro fell off the silver front bumper element and was promptly run over by a dumptruck and totally pancaked. Not even the micro-SD memory card came out alive…
Some chase cam from the off-road outing will hopefully make up for lack of forward view. Overall, i would get the gas motor in a heartbeat over this diesel, but for diesel lovers, only this one will do.

i was reading reviews about colorado and the article was saying horrible things about reliability and this is probably about gasoline version ??? and not about zr2-bison-duramax-diesel?? i was planning to purchase but i really got concerned. does anyone know if it is worth it to buy zr2-bison-duramax-diesel??

There is an offroad mode which keeps the rpms up. Push the center of the drive selector dial to engage.

there is an off-road mode! i didn't find it until after shooting this vid. push in on the 4x4 selector. d'oh! truck still heavily optimized toward off-road dynamics regardless though.

This rig tickles my interest. Being a Jeep guy, of course, I default to anything Stellantis will make. But a base, properly equipped Sport S Ecodiesel is still more expensive than a fully loaded Bison with the Duramax. It's a very compelling package.

All zr2 editions and bison only have a 5000lbs tow rating regardless of motor or transmission configuration

@@johnreno8909 I have a 2019 zr2 and my brother in law has one too. He has had 1 DEF issue that was fixed, he has 27k miles on his. I have 50k on mine with no issues, other than the stupid exhaust "fell off" (at 36k miles) while parked in my garage, it was a pretty easy to fix.

It’s a truck not a car ! Also the tow capacity for the ZR2 no mater gas or diesel is not 7700 or 7000. It’s more like 5000 or 5500, not sure which. Very poor review 👎🏼👎🏼

Given that there's no significant MPG increase when going from diesel to gas with the Colorado, I'd have a hard time justifying a diesel engine. I love diesel, but it's expensive at the pump and at the shop. DEF is no fun and the maintenance on diesel engines is more costly than gasoline. On something like a Wranger where there's a huge jump in fuel economy I could see it, but not here.

I agree. Unless you TOW or routinely go off road, the added torque isn't needed. DEF is a PITA, same for more expensive Ciesel fuel. For the highway xdriver...not worth it.

Guys, who said theres no difference in fuel between the gas and Diesel. The Diesel do 7 miles per gallon better then the Gas. Times 21 gallons from the tank its worth it for sure.
