How do you go about taking an already capable off-road truck up a notch? Find out in this 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison review. The Bison package is available on the Colorado ZR2. It's made in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles, or AEV, a company that specializes in off-road and overlanding equipment. In this video, Carlos Lago goes over what's included with the Colorado ZR2 Bison, how much it costs, how it handles, and how it compares to other midsize off-road trucks, including the Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator. We'll get inside and check out the interior and all the additional protection that comes with the ZR2 Bison, as well as the available gas and diesel engines. Is the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison the right off-road vehicle for you and your lifestyle? We answer this question and more in our 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison review.

Tremor is an involuntary, rhythmic muscle contraction leading to shaking movements in one or more parts of the body. Gladiators had a death rate of 9.5% per gladiator, per fight. Too many people can't look at TRD without thinking about poop. I guess Bison? Powerful American symbol for a power packed American truck.

It actually wasn’t. Lockers don’t send equal torque or power. The wheels with the most traction get the most torque. Open diffs send equal torque to both wheels, hence why when one wheel has no traction the other gets an equal zero torque. . Also, the autotrac transfer case doesn’t have all wheel drive. It has auto 4x4. It engages a part-time 4wd system and unlocks the front driveshaft via an energized clutch pack. When you need 4wd it locks up to send torque. All wheel drive has a differential, or an abused clutch pack in the Focus RS rear drive unit which has been a point of failure, that constantly sends torque to all wheels all the time. This just auto engages 4wd on demand.

Personal experience - TLDR, Love my '19 V6 ZR2, am trading it in for a diesel Bison to get more protection and increase my range per fuel tank. Truck is very capable, as the video shows you sort of wonder what conditions it will take to push the limits of the thing. Offroad mode keeps the revs a little higher for more power on demand. AWD works great for light off road and snowy streets and highways. 4Hi and 4Lo remind me of my '82 S10 Blazer. Locking front and rear diffs are great to have in reserve if you need em though I haven't gotten to that point very often. I know I'm going to miss the get up and go speed of the V6 but I drive in the mountains more than city anyways and am really looking forward to that diesel for torquey up hill and downhill roaming. The DSSV shocks allow for an amazing on road and off-road driving experience. I can’t overstate how well the truck handles twisty highway roads. I had the well documented transmission issue on the 8-speed which started at about 4,000 miles if I remember right. Dealer completed the recommended service reset and I haven't felt a thing since though understand only time will tell if it’s truly corrected. I have 23,000 miles on the truck after two years and the trade in value is going to be around 92-93% of what I paid so resale value is also high. My quick comparison to the competition, which is only MY comparison. Can’t get a six-foot bed in the Tacoma TRD Pro or Gladiator so those were non-starters for me. Extended cab Colorado has the six-foot bed. Ranger, I’m sure it gets up to Interstate speed quickly but I’m not super keen on a turbo four-cylinder gas engine for off road roaming. Gladiator is also too expensive. Full size trucks, too wide for where I go. Frontier, I will withhold judgement but I can’t imagine it having enough off road chops. Feel free to ask my any questions.

No other issues. I drive 25,000 miles per year and like to play off road when I can. These have been great capable trucks. (And I’m a Tacoma fan) just to tall to fit in them.

I bought a diesel 2020 ZR2 Bison in August of 2019. It is awesome. Some say the diesel is slow. But I don't get it. Maybe I drive around very slow drivers with the occasional Toyo mini are zipping along. A lot of torque off the line. It's armored with boron steel plates underneath. I've added the AEV snorkel, Warn winch, transmission skids. shock skids and other things. But this thing is fun to drive! The trouble with the shocks is that the rears are vulnerable to rocks and road trash thus to skids to help with that and there are reports of these very expensive shocks leaking, way too soon. And did I say it is fun to drive?

The rear shock placement and or a shield for protecting it and the last making the wheel fenders clear 35s like a stock Gladiator Rubicon. Ask me how i know because i have one now lol. I owned a Zr2 baby Duramax and can tell you the shocks are amazing but do fail and mine failed at 20,000 miles along with a cv boot failure. I loved the diesel but most times the traction control would kill it no matter in offroad mode or other modes. I hope they have another baby Duramax in the next Zr2.

Lockers do not ensure equal torque. Open diffs do, which is why when one wheel has no traction the other has the same amount of torque, which is nothing. . Lockers will send the torque from both wheels to the one still on the ground back to both as you lift a wheel and it returns back. . A fully locked driveline can send every ounce of available wheel torque to the wheel(s) with the most traction.

As usual, reviewers avoid talking about "uncomfortable" issues with the test truck. First, the Bison package is nice, but WAY overpriced--over $5,000 for a bunch of badges and, maybe $2,000 worth of skid plates, without any better ground clearance than the "regular" ZR2. Second, the 3.6 V6 is not that impressive and is somewhat prone to problems. Worse yet, it is mated to the AWFUL GM 8-speed automatic that is an unreliable piece of junk. The 2.8L diesel and the reliable 6-speed automatic is a better choice, but expect to spend about $1,500 to have the timing belt replaced at 150K miles. If Ford would wise up and offer a locking front differential on the Ranger Tremor, they would eat the Chevy Colorado's lunch. As for the Jeep Gladiator, a tough off-roader with Jeep's usual horrible reliability record. And, the Toyota Tacoma, a very decent off-roader that has literally about the most uncomfortable seating position of any current production vehicle. You'll get there in the Tacoma, but your body will hate you for it.

It would be the best overland vehicle... If it didn't break down on the highway on the way there.

Unless you want a class leading 308 hp V6, a Diesel engine option, front lockers, DSSV shocks, and no drum rear brakes...

I think the old one looks better. But I will admit the interior isn’t its strong suit. New one looks like a Tacoma. Give me the old body style with the new interior and you’ve got a winner.

Colorado Bison? C’mon man! This is the problem with GM they can’t seem to make a top trim model, always make another model that’s top trim. I thought the ZR2 was the top off road version, now they make another that’s ZR2 Bison🤦‍♂️They always do this. Horrible! 👎No heritage what so ever.

We’ll see how long this ZR2 Bison last at top trim before they come out with another B.S.

Bad angles, terrible rear shock mount placement, same ground clearance as a Subaru. Plus terrible Chevy reliably and resale value. Nevermind totally overpriced!! 💩

Do you guys just hate the bow tie brand? Or what because you always down play their products over and over in every video. They rub you the wrong way somewhere? You guys should just stick to selling cars........... you guys seem very biased in your opinions on things...... i don't love or hate chevy but noticed this and will definitely be unsubscibing. .... your channel is a waste of time!
