A big question has been on Corvette 2020 c8 Maintenance. Corvette proves to be a budget sports car starting under 60k. But if the maintenance proves to be expensive that budget is thrown out. In this video, I show you the full cutaway car and provide you with info on routine maintenance.

@ I grew up with nothing but GM products. The last 2 I had were absolute crap in the wiring department. My 2004 Suburban less than 30,000 miles the gauge cluster was screwed, the transmission was replaced under warranty, numerous check engine lights, among other issues. And yeah before you go saing it was old, I bought it in 2006 with under 20,000 miles. My 99 GMC I bought with 7,500 I had in the shop so many they lemon lawed it. And they confronted me about it

In 1971, I put a small block chevy in the back seat of a 1965 Corvair. I was a member of V-8 Corsa Car club. Now Chevy is putting a small block, in the middle of the Corvette. Beautiful car. Mine would be light blue with a light blue interior. Thank you GM.

Look at how low that engine is/ how high the transmission is. It's exactly as I've been telling people who've whined about wanting a manual trans. The engine is definitely in the way, making shifter and select cables impossible to install. They can't even do as Porsche has done and run the cables to a fork mounted on thre side of the trans. This is a fantastic video showing details people that haven't been explained so far. Hopefully people now understand why a manual trans isn't available.

Tadge has stated that in order to meet Chevrolet's ingress/egress requirements, the side sills are much narrower than those on typical mid-engine cars. Therefore, to increase structural rigidity, the center tunnel had to be relatively huge - it's essentially the backbone of the car. It's also plausible that it could house a small battery pack. It makes much more sense that an AWD model would have front motors rather than a driveshaft from the engine, especially since the transmission is on the back of the engine.

I saw this cutaway at Carlisle and immediately saw a correlation between this chassis design and my BMW i8. That center tunnel is square to support batteries. No need to make right angles, otherwise. Tons of room up front for an electric motor. And those hub close out panels at 2:28 are only there because it's ready for a front axle. This car is going to have a hybrid option.

The biggest concern I have with this engine layout is based on my experience of owning a 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT. That car had an engine in the back and radiator in the front. I had a situation where the coolant ran low. I poured more into the radiator, but there was still an air bubble that lead to the engine running hot. I eventually figured out that a needed to remove the radiator cap in the rear (which was for the thermostat), pull the thermostat, and pour more coolant into the housing. Once that was full I pulled the cargo on the radiator again, and kept pouring coolant into the thermostat housing until the radiator was overflowing. At that point I put the cap back on the radiator and finished filling the thermostat housing. Once it was full I reinstalled the thermostat and put the cap back on. This was the only process I found that eliminated all air from the system, with periodic checks and top-offs until it stayed full. I don't see how this can be done with the C8. I fear engines overheating in this car. Also, I didn't see any power steering in that car. The Fiero lacked power steering too. It was really stiff until you got the car moving more than a few miles per hour.

My advice is to never let people you don’t know Drive this new Corvette. Most will do crazy stuff with it and could possibly damage it and cause you problems with your insurance company. Stopping by and looking at it is okay and maybe even having some photos with it. I would love to sit in it and take a couple of photos but I have a lot of trouble getting in and out of Standard vehicles let alone a corvette.

Hi Mike, Thanks for sharing this video. I have been wanting to see how GM created the packaging for the C8. If you thought that the exterior and interior design was beautiful, then you should really be impressed by the beauty of what is under neath the skin. After 45 years of designing light weight structures for the aerospace industry, I can really see the effort that was required for the C8 Corvette. I thought that the C6 Z06 and C7 frames were great designs, but the C8 packaging design is really impressive. I don't think that the C8 Corvette will be any more difficult to maintain than a C7. It will be different and there will be a learning experience required. I am sure that GM uses a maintainer software program to evaluate and modify the design during th development process. GM also has to worry about the cost of all warranty work and will create a design that should be easy to maintain. I also believe that the engine and transmission can be removed as a whole package by lowering it out of the car for major repair work.

It looks really awesome mike. Thing is will the tech really know how to work on these cars 🤔 removing seat and panels to get to engine?? Possibly getting the car scratched and put back together? The thought of so much work just to do simple maintenance 😬 good idea for this new corvette. But buyers I think are not going to be ready for this. And you can’t do it yourself anymore. And your maintenance bill probably tripled 🤭 I will probably stick with my C7!!! It’s probably smart to wait a few years before buying one of these 👨‍🔧 ALL TO NEW. My 2 cents, most of all: the bugs on these things for a years 😫

And, I remember when I heard that it WAS TO BE A REALITY, I REALLY about had a heart attack!! Ha...😆😂 (I think I even shed a little tear but, don't tell anyone) !! Ha... I just love the fact that, an American car company can make something so amazing in looks, styling & performance, to rival exotics in the same category. Even surpassing many of them. And, all while doing it at a fraction of the cost!!!!! How great is that?!!! I can't stand Mustangs yet, to their credit, they have done some pretty amazing things within the past 15 years. However, this truly is, the ULTIMATE PONY SLAYER, ON SO MANY LEVELS!!! There will still be stanky stangs builders that will want to beat it &, it still will happen! However, it will never, ( in its current configuration), out perform the Vette!! It's so beautifully designed, engineered and balanced that, much like the Vette had become, the Mustang has pretty much peaked out in its current configuration!!!! Later "Stanky Stang"!!!!! Ha....😂😆😃😂

Could you see if there are any removable panels behind the seats for access to the front of the engine?

It's not a "tub" it's not monocoque. IF only all Corvettes ever sold were shipped with the interiors completely stripped out, it would have been a decent all around car.

Mike very nice thanks. Now there is only one ☝️ point I would like to make. You Refered to the Motor as an Injun and the truth of the matter it is a Motor. Nothing more needs to be said... Thanks again

I wonder if there is an AWD in development? I see the backside of the front wheel bearings have cover plates over the back of them, like the might be splined for CV shafts. And like you say, that tunnel is pretty big, probably more than big enough fora carbon fiber driveshaft 🤔🧐.

Great Video...more love to USA.....A major blow to all the overpriced exotic mid-engine cars. The Chevy engineers really proven what they can deliver. Hopefully no major issues arise with customers over the years....something too good to be true....know how that goes....
