Truck started out with less than 6,000 miles and went on a near 1000 mile road trip and calculated mpg.

My big Pro about it is the size especially with a family, for a gas 2500 vehicle the Comfort level and the ride from what I know are better than the Ford Tremor and the z71 pack on the Chevy I have looked at all three vehicles and studied them very hard as I may be looking to make another purchase of a new vehicle and from what I found the Dodge has the nicest interior with a grey colour choice and the most off-road capability but the least in Towing if you are looking for a good all-around truck I would highly recommend the Ford Tremor if you are looking to blow just a bunch of money on a cookie-cutter vehicle I would recommend a GM I am not biased whatsoever but I love the fact that you can pretty well do anything with a power wagon just the towing is where it kills for a gas truck that is pretty good you have your truck perfectly specto to how I would have it and a big Pro is the modifications that you can do to the Power Wagon I look forward to watching more of your videos thanks for the reply

Thanks for watching. Are you from the Raleigh area? I will say I love my 20’ power wagon. Best truck Ive had so far..I wish I would have waited a year to get the 75th ani edition. I also was looking hard at the 20’ rebel as well. Right now used truck prices are up so you would be able to sell your ram for good money however new trucks are hard to find with this chip shortage.

My favorite place in fuquay, is fuquay gun and gold great firearm store. That’s not too bad. I mean my truck took a little over 3 months and covid wasn’t too big then and there was definelty not a chip shortage. Keep in mind once they stop building the 21 and they go to the 22 trucks you won’t be able to get a 75th ani edition anymore..

Thanks for the video. I was thinking of upgrading from my 2021 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi to a power wagon. In Oregon the interstate speed is 65. I average 19 on interstate and 21-23 on the highways(55mph and some 45). That’s a big difference. My in-town is around 14mpg, though.

I've owned a 2018 Power Wagon since it was new... I haven't averaged anything over 11.9 MPG... But I do have a bit of a heavy foot. I beleive the 2019-2021 Power Wagon got a new 8 speed transmission that helps with the MPG. Although I love it I'm probably going to trade it for the TRX

Yeah many people have found the same mpg bump going from the 6 speed 66rfe to the 8speed zf trans. My highest hand calculated avg mpg on a tank is 15.1 mpg. Yeah they are hard to find especially these days that the ram trx is on back order and ram is trying to fulfill those ordered. Most people these days are just going ahead and ordering them to their spec!! That is the best way to ensure it’s exactly what you want. That’s what I did with mine. My commute to work is 15 miles from my house. So 30 miles round trip. I’ll just say to drive that 6 times a week. So 6x30 is 180 miles a week. I get on average 200 miles per half a tank.. so I fill up once a week bcuz I’m the guy that doesn’t like to let it go to much lower than half..

My 19 ram 4x4 with 3.21 gears gets around 14 mpg in normal around town driving. It gets 22 to 23 at 60 mpg on flat ground but when you take it up to between 70 and 80 that drops down to the 18 to 20 mpg. Of course that’s all going out the window when I lift it. Thanks for watching. The truck was my dream truck as well but it finally came true after years of saving etc. it actually seems like a deal when comparing to the ram trx. Yeah the 3.21 gears is about fuel efficient gear as you can get. Good for mpg but that’s about it. Just be careful with how big your tires go. Just can’t get myself to go to something with that MPG. My ram is leveled, but other than that bone stock. Mixed city/highway, I’m around 17-17.5, then straight highway, if I stay 70ish, I can get 21-22…that’s a 3:42 rear, 33’s. Not too shabby for a big heavy truck that is so capable and still a pleasant road trip vehicle. Not far off from my tundra. @@GReviewz well as far as I know its only been offered in the lexus ls500. So its been around since late 2017 I believe and was intented to phase out the Toyota v8 motors. It's way more efficient and the power specs show it. While I don't doubt it being reliable its different when you put this engine in a sedan vs a truck or suv. Its a way heavier chassis and not to mention the increase load put on the motor while towing is something the ls500 has never encountered. I'm just saying I'd like to wait a year and see if their are any recalls or issues to be worked out. The new mk5 supra had so many issues on the launch edition and now for 2021 they have remedied all the issues. So thats my main thing I was getting at. I have a 2021 tundra with the 5.7, but the new gen tundra is very appealing and I'd love to see how much it's improved over the current gen.

Thanks for watching. Yes I know how you feel. I love my truck as well. If I had waited a year I would have gotten the 75th aniv edition. I’m really interested in the mopar rock rails that were an option on your truck. In the manual it says 89 mid grade recommended but 87oct is acceptable. If a manufacturer puts acceptable in the manual that’s because they know/believe it won’t cause problems. If it would cause problems the manufacturer would t want to have to warranty it and they wouldn’t put acceptable. I run 87 and haven’t had a single problem. I live in rural Nc and very few people around here run mid grade which means that stuff sits in the stations tanks for awhile. I’m not poor but with the gas prices I’m fine with the 87. Great video - been thinking of picking up a PW for the family truckster - one question I had was is there adequate passing power on 2 lane highways? I know some folks are very aggressive and can take a 75hp car doing those passes, but for someone with kids in the rig, I'm a bit more conservative. That is my biggest concern for these heavy rigs, otherwise its an ideal rig!

My 2021 surprised me with the power. It’ll pass without an issue. The ZF transmission has a lot to do with it, always seems to find the right gear, shifts extremely quickly, and stays in the power/torque very well. If you don’t mind the fuel economy (or lack thereof lol) they’ll absolutely get up move and you don’t have to drive like a maniac for it to do so. I think you’d be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for watching. The power wagon is just a really great all around truck. Great for comfort, great off-road, tows more than most people need. The fact is you have 410hp hooked up to the new 8speed zf which is way better than that old Chrysler 66rfe. Plus 4:10 gears that’s a recipe for acceleration. I think there is a break-in period with the MPG too. See a lot of new owners with stock Wagons complaining about getting 9MPG. When dudes with older Wagons running 37's are averaging 12MPG. That or it's their driving. This could be since there are also people who magically hydrolock their engines in street puddles while lots of us are fording water with no issues. Hard to tell how honest people are being when they aren't getting the results they wanted. When I was towing on the stock 33's with my 2015 I averaged 13.2mpg. And that was towing from Nevada to northern Idaho, over to Oregon and back to southern Idaho. On 39x13.50 MT's right now I average about 10.2 ~ 11 mpg depending on how many grades I have to climb. My best MPG was on a trip from Boise to Death Valley. Mostly because you come off the plateau in Nevada and head towards sea level into California.

So I bought a 2020 tradesman 2500 w/6.4 as a work truck. However, I decided I could get a little more out of it. Got a great deal on some duramacs so swapped the shoes on her. Then upgraded the suspension with a Thuren/ carli level kit (front springs from Thuren and carli tuned fox shock all around) and added a carli adjustable track bar and front sway bar. Then added a pedal commander (I suggest this) to really make use of the hp and torque that the truck already has. I keep it in sport +2 and it's awesome. Finished with a muffler delete for a nice growl and some aftermarket parts like a bed cover side steps and light upgrades. All in all the truck is great and yes it is thirsty. I built my own version of a pw that still has all the towing capacity of a regular 2500 gasser. Which I need for my 10k lb food trailer. Also, no I don't really care about the lockers/ and sway bar disconnect. They are nice but ultimately this is a work truck first and those are just more electronic components that I won't have to worry about in the future. Especially when warranty runs out.

Thanks for watching. The route you went with your truck is the best way to go for most people. I didn’t go that route personally because I get a new vehicle about every ten years or more and my truck is a daily driver and a road trip vehicle towing a travel trailer etc. so it has to have the creature comforts one would expect in a vehicle made in 2020. Plus I showed the wife a tradesman and she looked at me like “no” since she works and pays bills also she got a say in it. I def think the thuren/carli suspension upgrades are a must. What rear axle ratio do you have? The power wagon has 4.10 rear ratio so technically for a 2500 it’s tow rating for a 6.4 is much higher than ram rated it at. The only thing holding it back is the softer off-road suspension...many guys just put airbags or helper spring on em and pull their heavy trailers or goosenecks...either way I love my power wagon and I loved hearing about your truck build it sounds like an awesome truck!!

@@GReviewz stayed with 33" that would be stock on the pw.. I didn't want to mess with recalibrating the speedometer, gear strength reduction, or further loss of mpgs. Now like I said its a work truck first and I thought that ride quality (upgraded suspension) was a better use of that much money over new rims/ larger tires. I will revisit that once these duratracs are done. You should definitely grab a pedal commander or comparable throttle response unit. You will absolutely thank me later and it would definitely make great content as these truck/drive train combos (6.4/8spd) are really gaining traction.

Thanks for watching. Ram/epa does not actually publish an official mpg for a 2500. The numbers you saw were most likely speculation or even the incorrect truck that was actually looked at. Plus most vehicle manufacturers attire hey mpg as either 55 or 60 mph. Very few manufacturers drive their vehicles 70 or faster to test hey mpg. I believe this truck can get 18 hwy if it was on a flat road going 55-60mph. The highest I’ve ever gotten was 17.8 avg. how do you like your truck? Is it a 75th ani edition?

My son bought a 2019 powerwagon with only 18k miles on it. Upon driving it home from dealership he was getting a side to side jerky feel in the front end. It seemed to tracked fine and didnt pull to either side. Curious if that is characteristic of the powerwagon or maybe something is wrong with it. Also steering is very stiff and heavy compared to my 1500 Laramie and doesn’t return to center on its own. Also wondering if that is normal for this 2500 truck. Would appreciate your feedback

The info is good just to have it out there but honestly if you are going to buy a Power Wagon, MPG really shouldn't be something you care too much about. I have a 2019 PW and average 11.7 mpg with the following modifications: I have removed the air dam under my front bumper, I have 37x12.5r17 Cooper STT PRO tires (true measure mounted under weight = 36.1" tall x 13.1 wide), AEV 17x8.5 Katla wheels (+27mm offset), STT PRO spare strapped into the bed, White Knuckle rock sliders (250 lbs), Dethloff engine/transmission skid (35lbs), roughly 200lbs worth of recovery gear (Traction boards, Hi-Lift jack, kinetic rope, tug line, tree strap, D-rings, ect), and RAM Dealer speedometer recalibration for exact tire measurements. It should noted I daily drive, and 2-3 times per month road trip 100+ miles to a weekend of off-roading in 4H and 4Lo.

@jamesngotts
@jamesngotts 3 жыл бұрын
@@GReviewz Agreed, it is good information for prospective buyers to have. I am really liking the STT PROs. They handle very well on road in my opinion, however take that with a grain of salt because it has been awhile since I drove a rig without M/T tires. They are louder than the Duratracs but the hum is not obnoxious from within the cab. Only had them on for 1000 miles. They smoothed out after about 50 miles and nothing bad to note on wear. In my opinion they are a really solid choice and have a unique 2-3-2-3 inner tread block coupled with spacious gaps between the outer lugs. They also measure truer to their stated size which is nice in my opinion. With the +44 offset OEM Power Wagon rims you will clear the radius arms with any 35x12.5r17 tire. On wider 12.5s you might have a little bit of rub on the front sway at full lock when fully compressed. Also don’t worry about the 8.5” minimum wheel width. The 8 wide OEM wheels are just fine for any 12.5 wide tire. Prior to these I had Mickey Thompsons MTZp3 tires (made by Cooper). Road wear was even on those. I did tear chunks out of the tread blocks rock crawling uphill but that is expected offroad under higher PSI. In my Opinion the PW ways too much to go below 25psi off road without beadlocks. In a Jeep at say 8-10 psi there would probably be much less trail damage.
@jamesngotts
@jamesngotts 3 жыл бұрын
@@GReviewz also as an add on to my original comment, the 11.7 mpg on my dash right now is based on about 300 miles from a recent trip: ~200 miles on highway, ~75 miles on city roads, ~25 miles off road in 4x4 (mainly 4H but a few miles worth of slow uphill 4LO). If I didn’t off road, I’d probably average around 12.5 to 13.

The octane rating is very important to your engine. I know the manual says it is ok to run lower octane but too low and the engine with experience detonation or spark knock. The computer will respond by backing off (retarding) the timing. Retarding the timing lowers performance and decreases fuel efficiency. Would be interesting to see your MPG with the proper octane fuel. My Ram is older and does not have knock sensors so when I use low octane fuel, I hear the detonation. I have to use 91 or more octane. My manual says its ok to hear detonation but all my years of building engines tells me I don't want a busted piston.

In all honesty I don’t really have that problem. On a normal basis when my truck is Parker at my house or work I leave it unlocked if the bed is empty. W out mods there’s much much to be desired. Was getting less than 200 miles on a tank. Buyers do your research and make sure it’s what you want. If you haul anything more that 5x a year avoid it.

Thanks for watching. We’re are you towing at? Hills, mountains? What was embarrassing about the truck? The power wagon is really not marketed as a well rounder truck it’s really lightly sprung for off-road use. If you were embarrassed by squat a lot of guys use a weight distribution hitch and if that doesn’t work air bags and cradles with level it right out. If you are talking about mpg yes it is bad however a comparable diesel truck might get 10-12mpg under same conditions. That difference isn’t enough if you tow once a month or every other month to justify the 10k up charge and then the much more expensive maintenance. What color 75th you get?

Yes the towing mpg isn’t that good. Bad in fact. Your seems abnormally low. Most guys towing flat with even an 8000 lb trailed get around 8mpg. Not sure what you got going on. Most people will say don’t tow until the truck has around 8k miles on it plus also...no one will say the ride is awesome but awesome for a 3/4 ton truck... I’ve had other truck and my dad has had other diesel trucks and the pw by far has a great ride again for a 3/4 ton truck...a new set of fox shocks would cure that...

@@GReviewz good morning. Not really a convert, I like both brands but this will be my 1st gas Dodge/Ram. I bought a brand new Dodge 3500 back in 97 (I'm 55), with a diesel (diesel back then was 98 cents per gallon 😄). It was a great truck....then 2000 F-350 (7.3 diesel), then 2003 F-350 (6.0 horrible), back to Ram in 2006...diesel of course. A few Fords later here we are and I can't wait. I decided I'm going with the AEV wheels Brad is running (trailrecon). I decided that before he released his video, love those wheels on the Ram...seeing them on the XL Prospector. I'll go with 35" Falken Wildpeak AT3w's. We live in Charleston SC, planning trips to CO and UT soon 😁

Man that’s awesome. Looks like a pattern, after a few Ford you go to a dodge/ram. So after the pw back to a ford I predict..yeah I like trail recon. I paid extra for the black power wagon wheels so I’m going to stick with them. I do love the aev wheels though..my dad still had a 2000 excursion with the 7.3l and will never get rid of it. Most everyone I know hated the 6.0 ford that had one. The 5.9 Cummins is probably the best diesel. I looked at the wildpeaks but they are some heavy tires for their size..
