Post recording edit: I drove from Loveland to Denver and saw some pretty impressive fuel economy numbers at 75 to 80 mph. well I did this test at 70 I might need to redo it at interstate speeds. now back to the original commentary below...
I have wanted to do as pure of a highway test as I could, in the most ideal conditions possible. I did some research and found Highway 14 between Ault, CO and the turn to Keota, CO only gained and dropped a max (at one time) elevation of 200 feet. Now the total net gain/loss was 1000 feet over the whole trip, but by our standards here, that is FLAT!
I only had to pass 1 vehicle each direction during this test, so it's as accurate as I could make it for the almost 80 mile highway speed test.
I tried to mimic The Fast Lane Truck on their MPG testing, filling up until the click, waiting 30 seconds, and then "topping off" one more click.
Ironically the drive back to my house from Ault ended up netting me over 16 MPG, that will drop rapidly as I drive around town now.
Coming up in January I have a weekend job to install in Custer, SD and that 5 hour road trip will be a great highway test as well with varying terrain. Will probably put those results on instagram.

Drove on a business trip from ABQ, NM to St George, UT last year. Friend drove his '19 PW w/ 35" KO2s. Roughly 1000 miles r/t. He averaged 17 mpg.

I put 15k miles on mine in the last month and 14mpg at 70mph was tough to come by. Usually meant a tail wind. The cold is the problem right now for us and winter fuel causes a big drop.

@@extspence it did but only by .5 ish mpg. It removes the deep bend in the oem one and forces the air right into the filter. In the summer running with the side door off pulls in too hot of air too.

Pretty GOOD gas mileage for the power wagon for the distance you travelled with next to little wind condition! A suggestion.Consider another video travelling the same distance with clear skies but this time with higher wind conditions for gas mileage comparison. Have you noticed any significant change in gas mileage since you installed you new cold air intake system? My over all opinion on gas mileage EXCELLENT for the POWER WAGON even when converted to metric where i live in Canada!!!
@JustinKingOffroad
@JustinKingOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
so on my run to denver i noticed something VERY interesting. hills that the truck would drop into 6th on it was staying in 7th and 8th with that cold air intake. as it would start to lug going uphill you'd hear a deeper growl come from the engine bay. it's absolutely making a difference. the real tell will be in 5000 miles when I pull the filter off, if there is ANY dirt in the intake tube at all, i'll be yanking that off STAT. my intake tube was completely clean with the factory airbox on it at basically 13,000 miles with standard air filters.
@boneskull4207
@boneskull4207 3 жыл бұрын
I assume this was after the cold air intake, any noticeable difference in mileage before the intake and is it still running smoother?
@JustinKingOffroad
@JustinKingOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
so during this MPG test i had the side door on the air intake, which basically was keeping me closer to the stock air box performance. after this video i removed the side door and there was a noticeable improvement. on the highway now hills that dropped me into 6th gear seem to have me holding 7th more, and you'll hear a deeper growl as it sucks in more air with lower RPMs. cold starts the noise level didn't change which is nice, my exhaust is already loud. but man, now when you floor it to pass someone on the highway, it crackles and screams with the best of them haha!

Curious if your truck’s front end lurches side to side a little when you hit dips and bumps in the road ?
@JustinKingOffroad

I think you're talking about bump steer. I do not notice any unexpected movement like that, but I also haven't messed with suspension geometry.

@@JustinKingOffroad yes very much like bump steer. Truck is new so never mess with. Bump steer isn’t common with straight axles unless something is loose or worn, really strange to have that on a new truck. Thanks for your input, much appreciated.
@JustinKingOffroad
@JustinKingOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I did notice more movement then my f150 I traded in, which is expected in a solid front axle vehicle, but nothing like my previous modded Jeep which has horrible bump steer. Alignment might be off a bit on the new one. But that would be weird it it was.

Devil's Advocate: I imagine that when they mesured that sign for 35 miles to Ault that they went to just outside the city limits, not Sinclair. Though, you are right; I find that those signs are merely suggestions. 😉

@JustinKingOffroad
@JustinKingOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
geez really? that's crappy of a dealer. they do get better fuel economy on premium however, in my testing the cost per mile does not make up the difference, it's cheaper to run lower grade fuel. 12.5 vs 13.1 in the city 87/91. you don't make your money back with 91.

@@JustinKingOffroad thanks bud. Yes, very crappy of them. 1st one here in Charleston SC, the next one today in Leesburg VA. Guess I'll order one.
