Here is my owners review of the granite black Himalayan.
It almost feels like a duty for motovloggers to review their bikes. They aren't really my thing, but a man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do.
It goes on a bit, yet there are still things I didn't cover, such as the clocks. I have briefly covered comfort, performance, brakes, suspension, how it copes with various roads, and off road. I'm no expert, but if you have any questions do feel free to ask. I will answer as best as I can.
Hopefully you get the idea of 'my opinion' of the bike. That's all a review is. It isn't necessarily how you or anyone else finds it.
Many thanks for watching.
Take care out there!

Shame about the seat, I don't see why these company's can't get that right. One of the most important things to get right. The bread gives a good gauge dosent it. Great review and a good reflection of ownership. Mine is a 2020 and the first new bike I’ve ever owned and have to say despite what others scoff at as weaknesses I happily live with and enjoy. Personally I haven’t found any issues that I couldn’t sort out and like you said with the right mindset it’s a great bike. I’m especially enjoying the 90+mpg at the moment, with the queues for fuel it’s a winner 😎

Thank you very much Kevin. It’s nice to hear from other owners. It may not be perfect, but there certainly aren’t any deal breakers. The seat is my biggest gripe, but I’m sure it’ll be resolved. @@Saddlebags73 There’s another good honest review by Grumps Rides and he makes a lot of the same observations as you. To me the RE is a bit like a modern day MZ250, not stylish but extremely functional, a motorcycle designed by motorcyclists. I look forward to more adventures on “The Witch”. Maybe it’s time to raid my piggy bank as there seems to be deals on 2020 models at the moment unless “The Duchess” has other plans!

Great video thanks for the review, I've got 9,000 miles on my 2020 Himalayan,. I can tell you that the seat is excruciating. Trying an air seat on top right now helps a bit probably going to get a custom seat. I have heard mixed reviews about the touring version. Looks like great riding where you are enjoy.

Thank you for that. I tried the touring seat, and didn’t find it any help. I sent the standard seat away to S.A.S. autotrim. I’ve had it back on the bike for a week now. With 40mm added foam it has levelled the seat and my legs are less cramped. I’m really pleased with it. Of course I am yet to see how it does over time. There is a video about it on Thursday, in case you’re interested. Thanks again and ride safe 👍🏼

As I'm MD of RE South America, expect your free 2022 Heralayer in the post anyday soon not!, but you do deserve some proper RE support for the 'warts-an-all' review! Some early bikes were fitted with the Glacial braking system, in-keeping with bikes origins! Re your seat, my new steed the Meteor 350, little bastard of your bike, has not got your raised passenger seat so taking that off has made life brilliant, my arse can now be paced perfectly and comfortably but have had to move-on present Mrs passenger for a younger model, with cute peach of an...........etc etc!

Being raised with underpowered VWs and a minimalist philosophy, I like the zen of the bike.. as to seat comfort, possibly depends on the construction/geometry of your butt. I'm 6-2, 200lbs and find little to complain about. Any minor issues that my 2018 had are long sorted out. My 5-9 wife loves riding along, says it's very comfortable. Most enjoyable, love where you live.. well done!

For any doubters about the Himalayan you really do need to ride it, thoroughly enjoyed mine for the 12 months of ownership. I'd agree about the saddle comfort being rubbish, I modified mine. Other than that for me they are great with their unique style and character and build quality is pretty good too. It's a lot of bike for the money and with any Royal Enfield it's about having the right mindset- focus on the journey and not the destination. Great video by the way.👍

Yes 100%. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. The seat and for me, the screen are my biggest gripes. But I’m sending the seat away to be modified and I’m hoping that’ll solve it. Like you said ironically between the words: this is not a bike where numbers would count much. It is even clear from its name "Himalayan" as connected with Himalaya, it suggests something strong, somewhere high up, barely reachable, something incomparable because it is so unique... I think the fact that count most is its versatility and convenience in any possible aspect. ... and what would you expect from being Himalayan/Himalaya. Having versatility and convenience there is max and all that is needed. p.s. Great video with sophisticated editing and a lot of useful info. Thanks for sharing this. p.p.s. well done my 'ansome, proper job vid. I've got a '19 model and I am quite impressed - but - the build quality is a bit dodgy, cables cable tied all over the place rather than tucked away. It does handle on the pegs off road very well considering the price and it is frugal fuel-wise. Could have done with a built-in usb port somewhere to help out with the usual satnav/phone needs. I've changed tyres to Anakee Wilds to give a bit more grip in the rough and dropped a tooth on the gearbox sprocket for a better ride on the lanes. It all seems to work well!

Thank you gag halfrunt! Quite right, it isn’t perfect. One concern I have is how it’s going to cope with road salt through the winter. A lot of spray seems to come up to the headstock/fuel tank. A USB port or two isn’t a big ask, is it. I was considering grippier tyres, but as 99% of my riding is on tarmac, I would probably wear all the knobbles off before I get to the dirt. I can see why you changed the sprocket. 1st seems a bit high sometimes, but ok for the road. Thanks again for watching and sharing your experience 👍🏼

@@Saddlebags73 Salt - mine's just had a recall for new calipers front and rear as they aren't anodised. But then I always wash off and recoat with FS365 every trip. That is certainly an option I’ll consider. I’m sending the seat off soon. It should come back 40mm higher, which may also help with the screen. So I’ll see how that goes first. I’d like to keep the screen if I can. I know it’s minimal, but I’d like a little protection as I ride through the winter. I also have a satnav mount to go behind the screen, ideally. 👍🏼

Thank you! I prefer to ride Ernie. No bike I’ve owned matches the Classic 500 for grin factor. The Witch is quite sterile in comparison, but makes a great stable mate, and I’m not afraid to get it dirty.

I forgot to mention, I'm six foot three, in regards to the screen, I'm sure it makes a bit of difference how tall one is. I have had no trouble with the seat, and I have the same model and year as you have

Yes I expect a shorter rider wouldn’t suffer with the screen. You aren’t the first owner to tell me the seat is comfy. It doesn’t work for me though. Although I may have been a bit harsh, because it’s ok up to a couple of hours, and most of my rides are within that. Many thanks Neal. Always good to hear from other owners 🤣

Does the Himalayan attract lovers of the underdog, the ugly duckling, quasimodo, forrest gump, andy in shawshank redemption, Frodo? The simple honest hardworking mule that stands in the face of brute and flashy competition, and comes out on top.

🤣🤣🤣 pretty much exactly how I see it. It has surpassed all of my expectations. At the time of making this video, I really liked it. Since then I’ve really tested it on some tough green lanes and it’s been amazing. Now I’m really starting to love it.

Chasis can easily be broken look for it on youtube you will be shocked . And the vibration will loose the screws .
@Saddlebags73

Thankfully I don’t think that broken frames is a common issue, and probably occur when used in extreme terrain. It isn’t really designed for crossing boulder fields or dirt jumps. And yes like any single, they vibrate. But not nearly as much as some others. Thank you for your input. I do appreciate all opinions 👍🏼

I think it's a nice and characterful bike for that type of usage you mentioned. But I guess new KLR 650 would be a better bike for all of that really... And bargain as well as the price in the US is £5500 ish. If only it would be sold here ffs ;)

Worst windscreen I have ever experienced was my 2015 Tiger800. I fitted a Madstad screen. For your leg length you could add 1-2 inches of foam. Maybe try a Seat Concepts kit? Tyres; Shinko 244
@Saddlebags73
@Saddlebags73 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kym. I’ve altered it since this video. I had the seat modified with extra foam, and cut the screen down. It’s a massive improvement on legroom and comfort. And now just clean air without that awful buffeting. Amazing how much difference small changes make to a bike. Was that the Tiger XE? If so, how was it off road?

@@Saddlebags73 XCx model with wire wheels. It was fine on gravel roads, but in my view too bulky for true off roading unless you are a very big strong lad ( I am not) . I would be described as an experienced dirt rider in the Veteran ranks. I rode the Tiger across Oz twice on both sealed and dirt outback roads. I only dropped it when stationary, when I over balanced. The Tiger handled well, not as good as a KTM990 on dirt, but way more comfortable on the highway. The plastics are brittle, the head stem bearings are ball bearings, air box access sucks, electronics under the battery where it gets wet and muddy. All design features that would be fine in Europe.

@@kymstock1852 Thanks for that. It’s a bike I have considered. Not a lot heavier than the Himalayan, and better as an all rounder 🤔
@kymstock1852

@@Saddlebags73 When you are experienced on dirt, then the top heavy bulky feel of the Tiger will be less of an issue at low speeds. It is an expensive bike to drop frequently, more suited to A and B roads really, but it will do gravel roads easily .

I'd chose a royal Enfield over the new Honda CRF .. the suspension on the CRF is made for small Asians. Any heavier and you bottom out. How it is supposed to be a ralley adventure style when the CRF can only hold 150 lbs is ridiculous. The royal Enfield handles fat guys as well as a lot of stuff of dual passengers.. this is way more useful than the CRF.
@Saddlebags73
@Saddlebags73 Жыл бұрын
I didn’t realise that. On paper the CRF seems more suitable for off road. But it sounds like it needs many monies spent on upgrades. Goes to show, specs don’t tell the whole story. I’ve been doing quite a bit of green lanes on the Himalayan, as well as some 2-up rides. It’s taking it all in its stride 👍🏼
