I really don't understand why people "Need to feel" the shift, the CVT is just fine. The whole idea of people "needing" to feel shift 1, 2, 3, 4 etc is just weird. I don't think this is a issue, especially for people who has previously not owned anything else but a CTV-gearbox.
@savagegeese
@savagegeese 4 жыл бұрын
From my understanding from engineers who have done research on this, much of the shifting feel and sound has to be more rhythmic when combined with internal combustion cars. There are certain CVTs that create this discordant sound with the engine because of the constant rubber banding that subconsciously creates anxiety or driver fatigue and unpleasantness.
@durgymp
@durgymp 4 жыл бұрын
@@savagegeese That's interesting but this does not exist on my two recent cars (both Toyota Hybrids with e-CVT) and it has never bothered me and it doesn't seem to bother Toyota either. Especially since they only recently added it (one extra gear, the first one ) on the new Hybrid system ( 2.0 Corolla engine)
@YouWillNeverKnow
@YouWillNeverKnow 4 жыл бұрын
I need to feel the shift becasue in my case i want to feel, hear, and see that everything is in working order, it's a big reason i don't like EV'S, you don't know what the hell's going on and i don't trust these computer systems, becasue I've been in plenty of modern cars where I've checked on basic functions and the computer is way off. I drive drive a 96 accord and i know exactly what a working part should sound like, and sounds that ring alarm bells that something may be wrong. I know exactly when it's supposed to shift, I know exactly what the engine should sound like in first gear, i hear exactly when the fuel pump is in working order, i can see exactly how much oil i have you get the drill. That's one reason i hate CVT's and t most modern cars, you put too much trust into unproven systems especially in luxury cars and I've seen enough cases where that bites people in the rear when their engine blows because the retards removed the dipstick in place of a computer or when companies are replacing surefire ways to check that you car is in working order for flawed computer systems that could screw you if your not as car keen as the minority of the population. So in the case of "feeling the shift" it's not something we complain just to complain about it (at least me), i have my reasons, i want to feel that the car is in working order, especially not with a product that has a shotty track record like a CVT and most modern car features and gimmicks
@durgymp

@@YouWillNeverKnow But if your first car ever was a Prius you wouldn't even know the need of shifting :)
@durgymp
@durgymp 4 жыл бұрын
@@savagegeese Also the fatigue and unpleasantness would only be reoccurring if you step on the gas on a cvt / or e-CVT. That's what creates the groaning noise. More common on a 1.8 Hybrid engine like the Prius but not so pertruding if you drive a Hybrid v6 Lexus with a CVT

The corolla was never "disposable". It's more like the Oster blender your parents gave to you when you moved out that their parents gave to them when they moved out and although it works just fine you almost wish it would break so you didn't have a fossil on your countertop. So you buy a new blender and it breaks in 6 months, and out comes the fossil again.

Affordable cars? Toyota have the highest prices when you shop around. With the CVT issues the Corolla has been recalled for, I'm not even sure the price is worth it any longer.
@TaijiArban

@@palebeachbum Agreed. The hatch has been out for just over a year and already it has been recalled atleast twice from what I remember. That's the reason I didn't buy the toyota hatch right as it came out cause they were using an all new engine and transmission and I didn't feel like being the guinea pig. Plus with that price I would most likely buy the hyundai elantra or the new kia forte, you can get the top trim of those for the mid or base trim of a corolla.

I'm on my fourth recall hence my commentary on carrying a reliable backup car in the bed. It wouldn't fit anyway but makes for a funny albeit bit of an inside joke. The latest problem???? EGR coolers. Thanks eco-nuts. I've also drove 60,000 lb dump trucks a few times and worked for a feed mill in Wisconsin for three months (summer job) driving a 36,000 lb truck picking up and delivery feed stock at farms. It was called a shovel truck. Why? Because I often had to shovel the corn, soybeans, oats, barley, or wheat into the attached elevator. There are times I wish I'd stayed on the farm ...

We won't be getting economy wagons anymore. I'll use VW as an example because I have inside knowledge. The manufacturing cost difference between a Tiguan and a Golf Sportwagon is less than $1K, but average sale price is nearly $4000 more. On top of that, depreciation in a Tiguan is much less steep than the wagon, which means lease prices are actually lower for the Tiguan. So with the Tiguan VW makes more money, most customers are spending less money, and the average American sees it as getting more car compared to the Golf Sportwagon. That leaves the only would be customers for the wagon to be enthusiasts; and much to the chagrin of all of us, enthusiasts don't buy economy or mid-market cars new, we buy them used, providing no incentive for the manufacturers to serve us except at the high end where the margins justify the low volume.

I am a huge fan of the Corolla's Been driving them for 18 years now. Super reliable and good value for the money. The newest Corolla is a welcome sight in many ways and I was happy to see many steps in the right direction but there is one thing that keeps me from buying this car and you addressed it in this video. The horrible horrible did I say horrible? Ipad for a radio in the dash. It is just hideous. Please bring back a double din radio that I can upgrade to something nicer if I want to down the road. Other than this the car is excellent.

Thank you for the video. It helped me a lot and I ended up leasing a 2020 Corolla XSE. Mine just doesnt have the option package with navigation, JBL sound system, or cornering headlights. My car has android auto, so Toyota's nav is pointless. It's a great car, and I couldn't be happier. Yeah, the infotainment is just bolted on top, but I'm tall enough that it's no distraction at all, and the regular sound system is all I need. Otherwise, it has everything I could ever want. It's comfortable, user friendly, and a pleasure to drive. Keep up the good work!

@RedNekLvr22
@RedNekLvr22 3 жыл бұрын
@@alvinsimba734 No. The XSE is nice, but if I decided to buy a coraolla instead of leading in 3 years, I'll probably drop down to an SE because of the cloth seats, plus, the electronic gague cluster hasn't impressed me at all, but, I'll make sure and compare and contrast when the time comes. Don't get me wrong, I love the car overall, but its easier to go top-of-the-line in a lease. When you buy it outright, what options matter and what doesn't become more paramount, at least to me.
@RedNekLvr22
@RedNekLvr22 3 жыл бұрын
@Richard Favreau So far so good as far as the tires go, and no problems overall. There is an issue with the windows fogging up easily. That has bothered me a bit. Look, in spite of it being an XSE, it's still a Corolla. It's a very comfortable car. I could drive in the car for hours and not be bothered, certainly a big deal. It has tons of safety features, something companies like BMW and Mercedes have been lagging on, but even with the bigger engine, it's never going to be a car that wows you mechanically. The bigger engine just makes acceleration acceptable instead of adequate. It is what it is, and what it is is a comfortable car that will keep you very happy....to a point.

Many reasons, including ever-increasing government standards and mandated items on new vehicles. It all costs money to develop and include, and they're gonna price the vehicles in a way to ensure they recoup all development costs on a new vehicle, of which there are many. Lane departure warning, automatic braking, backup cameras, increasing mechanical complexity to meet CAFE standards, licensed software like Carplay and AA--none of it's free.
