Jamis has been making two wheeled fun machines since 1979, a lot longer than many modern brands we see today. Their long-term experience with bicycles has shaped the brand into what it is today. Their first full-suspension bike debuted in 1995 with a whopping 55mm of travel out back, their product line and focus has shifted and changed through the years ultimately leading up to the race-ready Hardline, a bike that features 160mm of Chris Curries revolutionary 3VO suspension design.
Coming in at $4,199 for a full carbon frame with a spec list that is durable yet also leaves you the option to upgrade down the road once components wear out. Jamis found a great balance of affordability and efficiency with the C4 build kit.
Be sure to head over to our website to see our in-depth write up on the Jamis Hardline C4 where we discuss geometry, build spec, value and other options in the Hardline offering.

Great looking frame. I like how the seat stays follow the top tube. The dual links look a little packed in there, but if it rides well then shoot!

It’s definitely super clean looking. At first I was worried about how hard it would be to clean by the upper links but there is enough room to get in there with a rag easily!

The fox rhythm is a rebranded marzochi fork that comes on factory builds like this. It's definitely a good fork for the money just a tad heavyset. It comes on the base carbon Jamis Portal builds as a 34mm stanchion which I upgraded the travel to 150mm and it did not feel noodly. I'm 5'9" 200lbs. The 3VO bikes are good bikes for the money.

I got the 2019 a2 hardline and its been a fantastic bike the last year and a half. The frame and geometry is the same as the new models but the spec of mine isnt as nice. I highly suggest this bike, even the aluminum version if youre like me and the budget aint quite there

I've been curious about these bikes for a while, being an east coast guy not far from Jamis Headsquarters. Really enjoyed the review, though it's obviously a bummer that the reviewer was on the wrong size. It looks like Jamis is already quite a bit shorter than the current industry trends (not necessarily a bad thing), so a medium for someone at 6'2" is definitely going to feel a bit out of whack. Keep the reviews coming!

I think it would be a good fit back East, while I haven’t personally rode there I know the terrain tends to be more flat than I have here in WA but the bike really does help maximize speed through flatter terrain. I do have to say playing with a shorter bike has it’s perks, felt fabulous on dirt jumps!
@rstrakovsky
@rstrakovsky 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheLoamWolf I wouldn't say the terrain is flat, it's just more undulating, more uppy/downey as the cool kids say. And rocky, so many rocks! Basically, what we don't have is those 45 minutes climbs up fire roads to long sustained descends. For better or worse.

At 2:36, is it Fox 34 Rhythm or Performance, I thought they are different levels forks, where Rhythm uses aluminum lowers and Performance uses magnesium lowers?
@TheLoamWolf
@TheLoamWolf 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Puma, per Jamis' build spec on their website it says the fork is: "Fox 36 Rhythm Series Float 27.5” w/ sweep adjust compression & lock-out,15x110mm axle, air spring compression, rebound adjust, tapered alloy steerer, 160mm travel" Thanks
@theshortestcharles6886
@theshortestcharles6886 3 жыл бұрын
It's a Rhythm model, I think the Performance uses the same new magnesium lowers for the 2021 model year as the Performance Elite and Factory models (with the rounded arch) but this has the pre-MY2021 design so I think the Rhythm aluminum lowers are unchanged for this year
@jmanswat2457
@jmanswat2457 3 жыл бұрын
All i know is that they are a little stiffer and heavier than the performance series with lower price tag. Fox doesn't sell the Rhythm off the shelf- special dealer fork for value performance builds... I believe...

Thanks a lot for this review! I've got one strange question for you - is this bike can be "every day" machine? I'm living in a pretty "flat" big city, but have some nice trails in different parts of it. It means that sometimes I need to ride more than 10 miles to reach that trails and then go back home. I want to have a multi-purpose full suspension bike - for city, trails, sometimes mountain weekends. It's really dumb to pedal on the true DH bike with 200+ mm of travel and very narrow gear range through the city . The same way short suspension travel (120-130 mm) is not enough for mountains. This thing looks like a good compromise taking into account it's rear suspension that shouldn't turn every asphalt ride into a set of useless shock pushing. Now I have a very very cool offer for 2020 C3 version - just $3500. Please tell me that phrase "shut up and take my money" is true in this case =D
@TheLoamWolf
@TheLoamWolf 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely can be pedaled to and from the trails. Will it do as well on the streets as their short travel XC bikes with 2.2/2.4 low knob tires? No. But it will also smoke that bike on the gnarly, DH trails. It pedals nicely though and honestly the aggressive/ sticky tires will be your biggest holdback, not the suspension or geometry.

@@TheLoamWolf thanks! I'm planning to use tyres like Maxxis Pace/Rekon for the city and local trails - and keep angry stock Vittoria's for mountains. You told that M (17) frame size is a bit short for your 6'1'' height. Do you think it will be ok for my 5'10''?

My Jamis Hardline C4 is damaged. The suspension arms simply bent, damaging the paintwork of the frame, and the bearings were displaced, which led to a violation of the distance between the right triangle and the center of the frame and, accordingly, the left triangle and the center of the frame .

Sweet. I’ve got an early 04 dually with a 6 speed. Its been a great truck for me. Drive it every day. Only complaint is it has 4.10 gears and stock size tires so it doesn’t go fast at all. I’d love to change the gear ratio/ tire size to make it go down hiway in 5th at the same rpm that 6th gear is now. Right now 60 mph/1900 rpm 6 gear. I usually only drive 55 mph/1750 rpm. I believe it’s about a 15 mph split between 5th and 6th gear. Would love to go 70 mph/1750 rpm.
