Just bought an S140 today because at the end of the year anything under 25 HP is no longer legal in the "Golden State" (CA), batteries are in and gas is out. Stocked up on new chainsaws too! Out here the gas clogs carburetors up in the blind of an eye, therefore I pay a little extra for non-ethanol gas, which has an unbelievable shelf life. No more worries about draining carbs at the end of the season. I haven't had to rebuild or replace a carburetors in the past two years (since I started using it), and I have around 18 small engines, chainsaws, mowers, weed eaters, etc.

Just about finished my 2nd season with my john deere e120 tractor! I have not had to change the battery in it yet! These machines are great!

They do seem like good machines. I've got a 2013 cub cadet ltx1040 that's just about had it. One thing I definitely want in a new mower is an electric pto. I've grown tired of the handle on my manual pto. After years of use I had to replace it because itd gotten bent and no longer stayed engaged. Now the cable is needing replacement too. Mine also has the cvt transmission you have to shift in and out of gear. It's still working, but has alot of slop in it. I love john Deere's cut quality too. For a homeowner mower its top notch.

You guys rock. How do you keep it so clean? My machine has about 2.5 hours on it so far and it’s all caked in green residue even after I hose it down.

Very useful insights, thanks for sharing. One thing I would like to suggest is serious eye protection when using, especially around structures and walls which can cause ricochets. I hit a loose stone about the size of a quarter and it flew 200 feet like a bullet and hit my neighbors' front steps on a line drive, 3' from the ground.

I bought a used S180 that was a PITA to start when cold. I had to use Quick Start spray every time to get it to start. I tried all the usual stuff and no joy. I finally took a good look at the choke rod and saw that it was barely moving. A slight adjustment to the throttle cable attachment and the mower revs higher and starts instantly. I'm just amazed that the previous owners never addressed this issue, and sold me the mower with 13 hours on the meter. $2K and an old rifle for a machine without a single scratch and still has the little nubs on the tires -- it is that new.

I love the John Deere, my only problem is pressing down on the gas seems really hard and stiff. Otherwise great mower.
