2021 Tiger 900 GT Pro Oil Change

Tiger Blood Transfusion. I’m changing the oil on the 2021 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro. I had the dealership do the first 600 mile service and now I’m changing the oil a little early at 3,600 miles (3k after the first service), because wanted to see how things are looking. This video will show you the steps I take to change the oil and oil filter. My oil filter socket was too big so I tried to improvise but I failed. Channellock pliers, the tool of all tools… anyone? I ended up running to the auto parts store to get the right oil filter socket to do the job right.

Looks easy. Getting a 2023 Tiger 1200 next week. I always do my own maintenance so thanks for the demo.

Thanks for the video, I just got 2021 Tiger 900, doing my first oil change today. On my previous bikes, I put a bit of tinfoil on the exhaust so the oil doesn't drip on the bike when taking off the oil filter. Not a huge deal but no cleanup. Cheers!

Excellent, I have the same bike and I'm doing the 20k km change. It's similar enough to my 800 but different so this was really useful.

Great video along with your air filter video. I was about to scrap interest in that model thinking it was more complex until you pulled that air filter out, then it clicked, yay no tank removal!……tiger 1200😂

GOOD JOB, I WOULD PRE FILL EMPTY OIL FILTER WITH OIL FIRST. OVER TIME THAT WOULD BE MANY DRY STARTS YOU JUST HAVE TO TIP IT QUICK AND SPIN IT ON SHOULD ONLY LOOSE A FEW DROPS. LOVE THAT BIKE!

How do you like those Hepco Becker grip guards? Have you had a fall yet? I had them on my GT Pro but changed to barkbusters after I had a fall. I found that because the HB mounts to the yoke and because they are extremely rigid the impact of the fall transferred to the forks and bent them out of line. My dealer put everything right but they were sceptical about the mounting system.

I’ve had a couple falls one of them being pretty hard. The guards did a good job of protecting everything and it didn’t shift my forks in either case. That said they did bend out of shape and I’ve been planning on switching over to Barkbusters myself. I prefer the look of the barkbusters anyways.

Thanks Paul. Yea I didn’t get a good shot of that. There was too much of a reflection. As long as the level is between the two lines of the sight glass you should be good.

Getting a 900 GT this winter/spring and was wondering how one oil can be poured in only one hole for both motor and clutch? How is it that the motor oil, which get contaminated over time, doesn't add to the clutch area? I've had Harley's for many years and had to fill oil in three separate compartments, motor, primary and transmission.

Hi Christer. Congratulations on getting the bike soon. I’m not totally sure how to answer the question. I thought most all wet clutches shared engine oil. I had a 883 sportster about 20 years ago and don’t recall having to add oil in multiple areas.

@@timetomoto I've also had a Sportster, a 2000 year model, it had motor oil in a separate tank and then the primary had its own oil and filling hole. Can't remember if there was another hole for the transmission side. It seems very strange if the clutch and gearbox share the engine oil which get very dirty and conatminated over time.

Hola. Todavía no lo he hecho, pero hay una aplicación TuneECU y OBDLink que tienes que comprar para hacer esto. También necesitas un teléfono con Android porque la aplicación no funciona con nada más, según tengo entendido.

For anyone using these directions, please note that 10 newton meters equal 89 INCH pounds!!! (i.e. 89 lbf in). It is "NOT" 89 FOOT pounds.

Hi Brent. Yes I used the Triumph Motorcycle Castrol Oil Change Kit for the Tiger.

A bit of aluminum foil over the exhaust keeps the mess to a minimum. Unfortunately, the only way to reset the maintenance (oil change light) is to take it to the dealer (shame on you triumph for making it this way) or by buying a scanner, some weird and somewhat awkward app (TuneECU) and then risk voiding your warranty just to clear the code. Triumph made changing the oil unnecessarily complicated. The closest dealer for me is 2 hrs away, so I'm really annoyed that Triumph will not allow me to clear the code on my own.

Good call out on the aluminum foil Mike. Yea I agree it's ridiculous that Triumph makes you go to an authorized dealer to reset something as simple as a service reminder. I have seen people have success with the TuneECU but it looks clunky so I haven't bothered with it yet.

@@timetomoto I actually just used TuneECU. It was a major pain. My phone kept giving me a popular warning that it could potentially track you, which I'm not cool with. Actually getting registered was another headache. Then, there is always the chance you could void the warranty just by using it. The entire process was frustrating. Next bike will definitely not be a Triumph even though I love the brand. In fact, I just emailed the BMW dealer today about the F 850 GS, triple black edition.

'Dealertool' diagnostic tool from England is a easy way to reset service intervals, check/clear fault codes and check engine operating parameters.
