Your videos never disappoint Steve and this is one of the best! I just subscribed today. Thanks for your work doing these... I especially appreciated the specs on the Super Crew 4x4 Powerboost Lariat with the 502A package at the 9:25 mark. I'm picky about not exceeding payload capacity when towing our 6000 lb GVWR RV. I can pack my gear accordingly to be well below this limit, plus I use a WDH. New truck build has been schedule for the week of April 4 in Dearborn. Any luck, that date won't be delayed....

Great content, my issue is all about Payload and you broke it down very well, thank you. I wish reviewers would show the payload sticker because , as you mentioned, pretty much each build gives a different number. I really like many of the features 150 offers over the 250 so I’m hoping my sticker number gives me what I need (around 1700), dealer tells me they won’t know that number until it rolls off the line? I’m with you, give me a base number when building it on line and give me a rolling total as I add things, this way I could sacrifice some options if need be. Keep up the great work…

@@gdjmtravelschannel The base max payload in that truck is 2,155 lbs.. There are quite a few options that will take weight away based on the build you've gone for. I have the 2019 F-150 the actual payload on the door sticker is 2090 lbs.payload . I have the 5.0 V8 it's a 4x4 every truck has the payload discrepancy out there whether it's a F250 orF350. They base the payload off a 4X2 single cab . Once you add 4X4 people fuel , eguipment. Sometimes the F250 doesn't have much more payload than the F150.

Hey Steve, have found many of your videos super helpful. Payload capacity is such a painfully ambigous thing. I've said the same thing you did regarding Ford putting a dynamic payload calculator on their site while you build a truck out. Blows my mind how that isn't a thing! Anyway... I'm currently in the early stages of shopping for my first truck and have been eyeing a F150. I want something that gives me as much payload as I can get with either a supercab or crewcab as I have a future vision of a truck camper going on my family (wife and 2 dogs) do a lot of camping and some mild overlanding. Would love any insight you have regarding what packages would be best for an adventure rig F150 that can support a truck camper.

Hey Scott, glad you've found the videos helpful! Haha I've never understood why they don't at least give an approximate payload. Exciting about the new truck. So the best way to get max payload is to get the Heavy Duty Payload Package but that will limit you to the 301a XLT. Which means you'll lose out on the good parts of the XLT 302a High Package. The 5.0L V8 SuperCrew 4x4 will have 2,235 lbs max payload (probably closer to 1,800 lbs real world) and the SuperCab will give you an extra 100 lbs. Look at the tongue weight and total weight of some trailers that you're interested in. That's going to dictate whether an F150 will work or if you need to look at a SuperDuty instead If it's simple overlanding and not too aggressive you wouldn't need the FX4 package. And if you're worried about underside protection, you can always add on skid plates

Great breakdown of the payload capacities of specific builds. The 2022 Platinum with the 701A equipment group lists everything that is included with the $995 Trailer Tow Package, yet when the 701A package is selected, Ford still offers the Trailer Tow Package (TTP) as an option. When ordering a Platinum with the 701A equipment group and the TTP, is the buyer just making a $995 donation to Ford? Or, are there other features included in the TTP that are not listed?
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steven! The Platinum does come with the Tow Technology Package and you'd get the 360 camera as well. If you "upgrade" to the TPP you'd lose the 360 camera that would come standard in the Platinum and have to pay that extra cash to do it Honestly, I think that's just an oversight on Ford's part. They switched over to this new configurator for the 2022 model and I think it's an option that probably shouldn't be in there

The heavy duty payload pack is only available in the XL trim level now and it's pretty limited as to what other options you can add on with it. On the build and price select style "SuperCab" and Box "8'" and then click on XL and that'll let you configure. You're only looking at manual seats in the XL but you could add on vinyl seats with a console setup along with Ford Co-Pilot360™ 2.0 to at least give you some decent features Agree with you 100% about payload. @CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! Ton of other questions you need to ask yourself.. do you need 2 seats? 5? What bed size do you need? If you're stuck on the 2.7L EcooBoost with the 3.73 axle there are a few payload numbers available: SuperCrew 4x4 5.5' box - 1,965 lbs with the V6 Payload Package SuperCab 4x4 6.5' box - 2,165 lbs with the V6 payload package The numbers are based on having a stripped down truck so you also need to figure out what features are important to you. Your best bet to get the 1,800 lbs payload is to bump yourself up to the 3.5L EcoBoost SuperCrew 6.5' box with the heavy duty payload package. If you go for the XLT 301a you can still add in a few other options that will keep you above your needed 1,800 lbs payload. That setup would give you 13,800 lbs towing capacity

Hey Jim, based on the numbers you're right about the GCWR it's 18,400 lbs with a max towing capacity of 12,300 lbs with that configuration. There are a few things to consider, the max tongue weight should be 10% of the total trailer weight and your max payload is 1,420 lbs. You're getting really close to your max payload. Assuming nothing else in the trailer so base weight of 8,450 lbs you'd be left with 575 lbs payload after you subtract tongue weight. If it's only one person in the truck you'd be tight but good to go. Throw in multiple people with gear and you should be looking at an F250 instead With that weight you should be looking at a weight distribution hitch as well if that wasn't on your radar yet. Cheers!

I have 2022 F150 Powerboost with only 3900 miles, within one month engine overheated, onboard power not available, jerky or shudder transmission, sitting at dealer for one month, no available parts and Ford customer service is no help, don't buy this!

Haven't heard that issue happening on many PowerBoost F150s. It's unfortunate that yours is one that's run into problems but hopefully the dealer or Ford Canada/USA comes through for you sooner than later

I found this chart. My dealer said my new 3.5 eco boost with trailer tow package could only pull 7k because I didn’t have the coolers 😳 After viewing the chart I’m confined it can tow 11,200 however I really only need 8-9k www.ford.com/cmslibs/content/dam/vdm_ford/live/en_us/ford/nameplate/f-150f-150/2022/collections/3_2/2022_Ford_F150_Towing_Info_Oct20.pdf

Erm.. yeah your dealer is off by a few lbs 😅 You’d be limited to 7,000 lbs for “bumper towing” But using a weight distribution hitch you can go close to max.. just make sure that you’re taking payload into account as well
