*Max Payload / Towing* Post your build and payload on the yellow sticker! Appreciate Mark Houser for stressing this point.. Max Payload / Towing does not equal what your truck's payload will be. Every item you add in, whether it's vehicle options like sunroof, skid plates, running boards etc will all take away from the total payload of your vehicle. When you add in gear, coolers, even passengers it takes away from your max payload and max towing capacity. Currently working on a solution to give approx Max Payload but if you've purchased a 2021 F150 drop a comment with your build along with the yellow sticker max payload so that other owners know what to expect!

This was, by far, the most comprehensive video on F150 configurations. It is impossible to find information such as payload anywhere. Thank you. We purchased a used 2016 F150 3 years ago and we love it. We bought this truck to act as a daily driver and also be able to tow a moderate travel trailer sometime in the future. We are now starting to consider purchasing a trailer and have decided on a Lance 1995. The trailers GVWR 6200. Our F150 is a super crew, 2.7 ecoboost, 4x4, 12,800 GCVWR, and 1353 lbs of available payload. We thought our truck would have now problem pulling this trailer, but after crunching the numbers, I am concerned we are way too close to maxing out payload. This is with a estimated 15% TW. We are considering selling this truck and upgrading to something with better payload, etc. We want to stay with an F150 and preferably a super crew cab, but would be willing to do a super cab if that would be better. We also need 4 wheel drive. Any recommendations you have would be great! Also, is there a particular year of truck we should consider? We would want to purchase something used between 2016 and 2019 ideally. Thanks!!

Thanks so much for the kind words Amy! Depending on what else you have in the truck you'd be very close to your max payload and towing capacity - you could look at an F150 with the max payload package but would lose out on some of the nicer interior features to get that package based on availability. If features don't matter - I'd recommend looking at the F150 SuperCab/Crew 4x4 w/max payload and the max tow package. Ideally the 3.5L EcoBoost as it would give you much higher tow capacity than the 2.7L EcoBoost It may be challenging finding one with both packages but not impossible Depending on your loaded trailer/payload weight (including all passengers, gear etc) it might be worth it to look at an f250 or 350

That’s exactly what I’m running into! Who cares if I can “pull” an 8000lb airstream when the truck has like 1100 payload max and the tongue weight alone takes 900lbs of that! So basically you’d need a horse jockey driving the dang truck or you’d be over on payload!

@@SurvivalReview Bang on with that Phil. If you add in every possible option on a 4x4 SuperCrew with PowerBoost you're pretty much looking at a 1,250lbs max payload. Depending on your needs you might need to look at an F250 or F350!

Thank you for all the info. Ford can be very confusing. Based on what you were saying, it did help me make some sense of the 2021 Ford Towing guide I've been reading. Here is my scenario and please let me know if I am on the right track. I'm purchasing a boat and will receive it in August. The boat loaded (gas/engines/water) is 8500 lbs. The trailer for the boat is approx 1,200 lbs. The total haul will be 10k lbs to be conservative. I am considering a 2021 F-150, Lariat, Supercrew 4x4, 145.4 WB (short box) with a 3.5 V6 Ecoboost, 3.55 axel ratio, and Max Trailer Tow Package. The guide says this config = 13,900 lbs towing capacity. This is not a work truck, so payload will just be people. I like to have as much room to play with even though won't exceed the 13,900 towing capacity the guide says or get near it. The load cap is around 1,700 lbs more or less, and I am aware this number is lowered by the tongue weight. Based on these specs, I'm good to go. Tongue weight should be between 600-800 lbs so no problem there. My confusion is...... Why does the trailer hitch say on the sticker under the vehicle, Class IV with a max tongue weight of 500 lbs and max conventional towing of 5k lbs. I've looked at several trucks with the above specs and every single hitch says the same thing??? Doesn't the hitch need to be a class V? Does this not matter because of the way the vehicle is ultimately configured? P.S. I wish they were as simple as GM/Chevy where they put the capacity nice and clear on all the trucks. It avoids having to do so much research.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
The guides are fairly accurate but there's some key info missing - like how components such as sunroof, skid plates etc affect the end payload capacity. You're right about the towing capacity but what else is being added into the truck feature wise? Just based on what you've said the tongue weight of the trailer is along with anticipated weight in the cabin your configuration should be ok based on your needs! The hitch receiver is a Class IV but on the F150 max conventional towing will be based on configuration. Max Payload will be on the yellow sticker on the driver's door so you may be able to luck out and find one on a dealer lot with the specs you need

Awesome video! I am pulling a 31 ft. Boat. Gross weight with trailer is 11,500 lbs. Which F150 configuration will provide the best STABLE towing option with no swaying at 65 mph. I tow about 12 times a year. Thank you !!
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve Жыл бұрын
Thanks Todd! Gross weight at 11,500 is going to be tight for an F150 depending on how much payload you have as well.. The highest capable F150s would be: 4x2 SuperCrew 6.5' box with 3.73 axle - 14,000 lbs 4x2 SuperCab 6.5' box with 3.73 axle - 13,900 lbs 4x4 SuperCrew 6.5' box with 3.73 axle - 13,700 lbs Those builds would all require the max towing and max payload packages which would limit you to the XLT 301a as well. It's usually recommended to not tow more than 80% of your max allowable to account for steeper grades/additional payload etc. If the gross weight including all your payload is 11,500 lbs you should be ok with any of the above options but it's probably a better idea to look at a SuperDuty instead. A weight distribution hitch is also a must at those towing weights if it wasn't already on your radar

Awesome video Steve! In search for an F150 (possibly even ranger if numbers work). We will have a pop up camper, not looking for anything higher than 3500 lbs dry. Two adults, two kids, dog, typically camping gear for pop up. All people add up to around 430 pounds. Truck would mostly be commuter vehicle. Only towing a couple times a year. Definitely know it would have to be super screw. Would like to have 2.7 for the mileage and I’ve heard of less issues with the 2.7 than the 3.5
@CarsWithSteve

@@CarsWithSteve hi Steve! So if I were to stay with the 2.7, because I believe it will tow just fine, but maybe see if one has the payload package? I don’t want to be right at the max. Instead giving it a little bit of room so it’s payload isn’t maxed out. I have no idea how much camping gear typically weighs. Most gear would stay with the pop up all summer season. Maybe upping to the 3.5 so I don’t have to specifically search for a 2.7 with the payload package?

@@adambyers8010 if you were to go for the 2.7L SuperCrew 4x4 5.5' box your max payload is 1,760 lbs (based on the rest of the configuration of your truck). Great info Steve. Wondering if you could provide the payload and towing capacity for the power boost hybrid configured as super crew, 4x4, platinum w/7.2 Kw and 5.5 ft box? We are picking up a new travel trailer in a few months and we really like this truck configuration but we are concerned about payload capacity. Trailer will max out at 770 tongue weight and 7700 lbs. With the tongue weight, 4 people, two dogs and cargo - that doesn’t leave much margin if this truck configuration maxes out around 1800 lbs payload (for example).
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ted, glad you enjoyed the video! Based on the specs the max payload is looking like 1,830lbs. A tongue weight of 770 would leave you with 1,060lbs more that can be utilized 4 adults x 180lbs = 720 2 dogs x 50 lbs = 100 Cargo x (40lbs per person x 4) = 160 Total = 980lbs If the scenario there is accurate you'd be really close to your max payload. Ideally the setup would be the family in the cab and gear in the trailer. Hope that helps!

Jack weight is 905 lbs, and wet weight of the Airstream (everything, including cargo) is 8850 lbs. I was looking at a 2021 F150 Platinum short bed. The numbers seem to work but everyone’s telling me I need a F250. I think they are basing that assessment off of previous gen trucks that don’t perform as well as they do now. Think I’m safe towing the Airstream? Any recommendations? I might be ok going to King Ranch trim if needed.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott! Tongue weight is doable on the F150, towing weight is as well but few questions.. Does your cargo weight include passengers weight? Also, are you moving the AirStream constantly or just every few months? In the truck that you're after if you go for the 3.5L EcoBoost with the Max Tow Package you'll be able to pull up to 14,000lbs - that will depend on what other options you get as each option you add on will have additional weight which affects max payload/towing. It's recommended to stay within 80% of your max towing capacity so in theory you'll be ok with the weight you shared. If you're constantly moving the trailer it would be worth looking into an F250 or even an F350 as an option, the F350 specifically will have absolutely no issue pulling that trailer consistently. Normally if you think it'll be tight with the smaller truck, go bigger. It's always better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it ;)

The max payload for your truck would include the tongue weight of the trailer. So you're around 1,400 lbs for payload which I believe all configurations of the 2021 F150 would be able to handle. For towing you bring up an interesting scenario - towing through mountains. Because you're going uphill often it can place more of a strain on the engine so I'd recommend going with one that can tow a bit more than usual. Going through mountains you should consider towing around 70% of your truck's max towing capacity at the very most. Assuming that the weight on the Airstream loaded is 7,600lbs I'd recommend a truck that can tow at least 11,000lbs. The 3.5L EcoBoost or the new hybrid PowerBoost engine would be able to more than handle what you need! The regular Trailer Tow Package would give you at least 11,300lbs towing but if you upgrade to the Max Trailer Tow Package you'd be at 13,900lbs

We don't own a boat for wakeboarding, but I was trying to ensure the truck I buy would be able to tow it in the long term. So I was estimating around 8000 pounds for a boat and trailer with 800 pounds tongue weight. Update* - I suppose I could also opt for the 2021 F-150 LARIAT, SuperCab, 6-1/2' Box, 3.5L V6 EcoBoost® with Auto Start-Stop Technology, Electronic Ten-Speed Automatic Transmission with Selectable Drive Modes, 4x4, 3.55 Electronic Locking Axle Ratio.

Hey Chad! Bumper pull means that there's a tow ball on the center of the bumper vs using a hitch ball instead. If you're estimating 8,000lbs for your boat and trailer the 3.5L EcoBoost would be more than enough for you and you wouldn't need to go for the max tow package either

Great video Steve. Thank you for doing it. I'm looking to buy a new Ford F-150 super crew cab XLT or Lariat. My boat and trailer will have a maximum weight of 8,000 lb and a maximum tongue weight of 1,200 lb. I'm figuring the payload to be about 1,800 pounds which wouldn't be 300 lb for occupants, 200 lb for cargo, 100 lb for the hitch, and the tongue weight to be 1200 lb. What size engine would you recommend? Also, would I need the max towing package? Thank you in advance for your response. John.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks John! First thing.. you're getting a bit close to the max payload of the truck without the Heavy Duty Payload package. I wish the payload guides were more accurate but as an example a SuperCrew 6.5' with the 3.5L EcoBoost would have a "stated" max payload of 2,640lbs ... if your truck was 4x4 with the 6.5' box, heavy duty payload and stripped down with no other options. That same configuration with the 502a Lariat would have a max payload closer to 1,750lbs. If your payload is going to be closer to 1,800lbs it would be safer to go for the Heavy Duty Payload package which also really limits what builds you can have. You would have to go for the XLT 3.5L EcoBoost, 6.5' box and Heavy Duty Payload Package to give yourself some breathing space. A bump up to the F250 might be a safer bet if it's a trailer that you'll be regularly towing and you want to get a more fully loaded Lariat.

@CarsWithSteve 2 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't be hard to beat a 350 v10 gas mileage going to pretty much any 150 engine! Quite a bit of payload you're going to have there so if you want to stick with an F150 you're going to have to give up extra options to stay within your payload needs. Ideally with what you need you should look at something like this: SuperCab XLT 301a Mid Package (XL 101a to save more weight) - 8' box - 4x2 or 4x4 - heavy duty payload package - 5.0L V8 or 3.5L EcoBoost You could add on a few other factory options but I wouldn't go for too many extras. The 4x4 version of the truck with the configuration above and the 3.5L will give you 2,740 lbs max payload - with the XLT 301a mid your yellow payload sticker should come in around 2,300 lbs so it'll give you a bit of wiggle room

I'm working on another video now that will have sample payload stickers! Always a good call to go a bit bigger than you might think. Based on your configuration and depending on what other features you have in the truck you'd probably be hovering between 1,600 - 1,800lbs for payload. I have a similar (32ft) trailer. Your hitch weight must be close to 1000lbs if not more. Since you are thinking of SuperCrew model, I assume there will be more than 2 people in the truck. So with passengers, fuel, luggage you will probably need a truck with payload over 2300lbs. You would have to get heavy duty payload package which is not available with king ranch trim. In fact, HDPP is only available if you go with xlt 301a package or lower. Just ordered an f150 xlt 301a 6.5bed 4x4 3.5lt SuperCrew with HDPP and max towing package. Payload is 2640lbs.

Looking to see if the F150 is doable for towing a travel trailer RV. 5000 lbs dry RV, worst case it would be close to 7000 lbs, but probably would never get that high. Hey Michael! An F150 would definitely be able to handle it depending on the tongue weight of the trailer. The 2.7L EcoBoost is close to maxing out towing capacity with the trailer loaded so I'd recommend either the 5.0L V8, 3.5L EcoBoost or the new 3.5L PowerBoost. Those 3 engines have at least 12,500lbs towing capacity which would be more than enough for what you're after The 3.5L PowerBoost will give you the best fuel economy out of the 3 but does come at a bit of a premium in price up front

Well done Video. Need your help on an F150 towing a GVWR 7000 travel trailer. What configuration would you suggest and why?
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael! If your trailer weight is 7,000lbs dry let's assume that it would be approx 8,000lbs loaded and then you'd have approx 1,000lbs in payload weight mixed between passenger and cargo (bags, cooler etc) That means in total you're "towing" 9,000lbs. You shouldn't regularly tow more than 80% of your max capacity to take inclines (hills, mountains etc) into account when driving to avoid too much engine strain. That means you need a truck that can pull around 11,250lbs The 3.3L base engine and 2.7L EcoBoost are written off right away because of that. That leaves us a few options: 3.0L diesel - with max tow package will max out at 12,100lbs 5.0L V8 - with max tow package will max out at 13,000lbs 3.5L EcoBoost - with max tow package will max out at 14,000lbs 3.5L PowerBoost - with max tow package will max out at 12,700lbs Any of those 4 engine options will do. If you get the regular 3.5L EcoBoost you wouldn't need the Max Tow Package but it's always better to get it and not need it then need it and not have it Hope this helps!

Hey Roland! Glad you enjoyed the video. In most cases when looking at max towing there's a few hundred lbs less towing capacity in the 4x4 compared to the 4x2 and that's the same way with max payload. With the configuration that you're after in a 5.5' box you'll be able to tow around 11,300lbs if you stick with the 3.31 axle ratio. Going to the 6.5' box in that configuration you lose about 100lbs in towing capacity. You'll have more than enough towing capacity with the build you're after. Class IV Trailer Hitch is literally just the hitch receiver and nothing else Trailer Tow Package includes the 7 pin wiring harness, Class IV receiver, Pro Backup Assist, Brake Controller and Tailgate LED Max Trailer Tow Package will bump up the size of your axle ration - higher axle ratio means more torque but slightly lower fuel economy.. Hey Jon! I'd double check your trim level.. the 300a would be an XLT which would be cloth seats vs 500a/501a etc that would be Lariat with Leather... For your configuration with a CrewCab, 4x4, 3.5L PowerBoost, 6.5' box you would have a total of 1,810lbs max payload. With the weight you've given 685 lbs hitch and 800lbs for the family you would have 325lbs max left for cargo. Throw in a few coolers at 50lbs each, generator at 100lbs you'd leave yourself with a small buffer. If you can manage securing the generator in the trailer you'd be in a better spot but with the coolers and generator in the bed you should be ok!

Hi Chheng, the price is going to depend on how the rest of the vehicle is configured and if you're in Canada, the USA or another country. Assuming the max package you can get with the heavy duty payload (301a for the XLT line) you're looking at $51,475 + tax and licensing in the USA. Check with a local dealer to see if they can find one for you. If you have to factory order it'll most likely end up being for a 2022 model, especially if you want the max tow package. @CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tino, glad you found it helpful! The max tow capacity is going to depend on how you have the rest of the truck configured. If you have the SuperCrew (4 full doors) in the 5.5' box and 4x4 it has a tow capacity of 9,400lbs. You could bump up the axle ratio to 3.73 to give you an extra 1,000lbs. Downside to the upgraded ratio is slightly worse fuel economy but upside is better towing and acceleration. The base 3.31 axle ratio would be fine for what you're towing but if you want that extra buffer the extra few hundred dollars to go to the 3.73 would be worth it.

I have a question. I always been under the impression that all turbo charged engine should used premium or 93 fuel. Why ford turbo engines use regular?
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting argument - all Ford documentation shows a minimum recommendation of 87 octane www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/vdirsnet/OwnerManual/Home/Content?countryCode=USA&languageCode=EN&Uid=G2066197&ProcUid=G2066203&div=f&variantid=7320&vFilteringEnabled=False&userMarket=USA However most gas engines will have better performance with a higher octane like 89 or 91. Even looking at horsepower/torque ratings.. OEMs are all running 91/93 to get their stated numbers. Turbos are unique because you can also go the other way. There are tunes for turbocharged engines where they'll run E85 and boost performance like crazy (around 30%) just with that conversion So long answer short... you could use a higher octane for better performance but it's not necessary for daily driving

@@CarsWithSteve ok. So do I subtract myself, passenger, liquid and ect from the 7700? The remaining weight would be what a dry travel trailer would need to be?
@CarsWithSteve

@@LifesTestTV Add up all of your passenger weight, cargo weight etc. So if your combined passenger and cargo weight is 1,000lbs then you can technically tow a maximum of 6,700lbs with the trailer fully loaded. Having said that, it's never a good idea to consistently tow close to your max capacity. You want to leave about a 20% buffer to account for anything you may have missed when adding weight and to take going uphill into account which would put more strain on the engine. So if your max tow is 7,700lbs you shouldn't pull a combined total of 6,160lbs frequently. If it's every now and again that's fine but engine failure can happen when you constantly tow too much weight

Hey Scott, the max towing capacity on that truck should be 11,500lbs - but that'll depend on the rest of your build, what you're carrying for payload etc. If you're constantly towing that much weight you're pushing the capability a bit especially if that weight doesn't include payload . Steve thanks for the video. Question about which truck option i should consider...I live in Atlanta, but tow a camper for family trips several times a year. It's an 8,000lbs camper, and alone would leave lots of options. But when you look at payload it narrows fast. I have a family of 5 (~800lbs with a travel bags) and I figure camper tongue weight is about 1,000 (camper, hitch)...so that's 1,800 lbs in payload and i haven't even put bikes, coolers, generator, firewood into the truck bed. Is my only half ton option a F150 MaxPayload? From what i understand the highest trim level of a MaxPayload is XLT301A. Thoughts?
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Bryan! Glad you enjoyed the video and what a specific question. Get ready for a detailed answer haha. Yes you're correct about the highest available trim level for the Max Payload Package. It's the XLT 301a which means you're sacrificing on some of the nice features that come in the 302a, Lariat or above. It sounds like you're conventional (not 5th wheel) towing the trailer. What truck you go with is interesting but I'll get to that in a second... Let's do some math: In cabin of the truck: 600 lbs for family In bed of the truck: 1,000 lbs for camper tongue weight 200 lbs for travel bags 125 lbs (5 bikes x 25 lbs each) 75 lbs (35 lb loaded coolers x 2) 250 lb generator = 1,650 lbs in bed of truck Total Payload = 2,250 Being towed: 8,000 lb trailer With the payload you'd be a bit limited.. however would be able to store some things in the camper while it's being towed? Maybe secure the bikes in there along with the generator or travel bags? If you can shave 400 lbs or more off the payload by storing it safely in the camper to tow instead you would open yourself up to a number of options. Depending on what the total GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) is on your truck that'll determine where your payload will sit. But you could probably get away with the 5.0L V8, 3.5L EcoBoost or even the PowerBoost if there's room for storage in that camper. When we add the payload to the trailer weight, we get a combined weight of 10,250 lbs. You shouldn't exceed 80% of your vehicles max tow capacity so you need a truck that can tow 12,812.5 lbs at a minimum (80% of 12,812.5 lbs is 10,250 lbs). The 5.0L V8 has a max tow cacpacity of 13,000 lbs when properly configured. The 3.5L EcoBoost has a max tow cacpacity of 14,000 lbs when properly configured. The new 3.5L PowerBoost has a max tow cacpacity of 12,700 lbs when properly configured. So you've got some options my friend if you can manage to get that payload re-distributed. Now if you can't get the weight re-distributed then your choice would be to look at the 301a F150 XLT. Here's an ideal build if re-distributing weight isn't an option: - heavy duty payload package - max trailer tow package - 360 Camera Package - Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0 - Windows - Rear power sliding - Remote start system w/remote tailgate release - LED Box Lighting with Zone Lighting - Trailer Tow Mirrors - Floor liners - Power Adjustable pedals Here's a link to it - shop.ford.com/build/f150/?gnav=header-trucks-bp#/config/Config%5B%7CFord%7CF-150%7C2021%7C1%7C1.%7C301A.W1C....88U.XLT.54Y.CCAB.47R.617.43V.59R.85P.RETAIL.627.43B.SS6.%5D A little detailed but hopefully it'll help you make your decision! @CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnhan6859 Yes the King Ranch has the standard tow package but even with an upgraded 3.73 axle ratio your max towing is 10,400lbs in the 5.5' and 10,300lbs in the 6.5' box. The Max Tow package has a reinforced bumper that increase towing capacity to 13,000lbs and 12,900lbs

Are we glossing over the fact that the 3.3l only tows 5000lbs with the stock 3.55 axles?

Yes but not intentionally. I didn't realize it was missing until you mentioned it. Will be corrected for the 2022 version! Now I'm curious how many of those the 3.3L 3.55 axles are sold. It will keep me up at night

@@CarsWithSteve it just so happens that it is the most popular by sales volume. At least that what Edmunds says. Lotta guys out there exceeding their limits I bet. Also, probably hating on the honda ridgeline while being oblivious to the fact that their more expensive and less fuel efficient half ton is no more capable.

@@jg8263 Can you point me in the direction of those numbers that show the 4x2 3.3L is the highest selling? On Edmunds I only see that the XLT is the most popular but there's nothing on the configurations. From dealers I've worked with since I started the channel I've seen maybe 2 trucks with that base configuration... almost everything has been 4x4, usually SuperCrew, with the 5.0/2.7L/3.5L My only real complaint on the Ridegline is the location of the spare tire. For people that regularly use the truck to transport materials, store tools etc what happens if you have a flat? I know a guy who had a flat once in his Ridgeline. Had to unload a full bed of gravel to access the spare, change it and then reload the gravel. He sold it the following week 🤷‍♂

What is your opinion of 2021 f150 xlt 3.5 ecoboost twin turbo?
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
It's a solid truck and the 3.5L EcoBoost is great. With turbo engines sometimes you have to go a bit above and beyond when maintaining it. Regular maintenance, change out the spark plugs regularly and the boots every now and then it'll be great 👌 If you're considering an F150.. what are you doing with the truck?

All of the Ford factory payload info is false. The GVWR on all of these is 7050! Max payload (yellow sticker) that I have seen on ANY super crew is 1700.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 2 жыл бұрын
The max payload is interesting.. if you get the most stripped down version of that configuration the payload will be very close to what's stated. But most people add options. Sunroof, running boards, console, tonneau etc that all has an effect on how much you can actually hold in the truck. Ford's new smart bed with the built in scale is a good solution to figure out what's in the bed I think Ford should stress, in more than fine print, that the actual payload will be lower based on build. A look at the exact payload number as you're configuring online would be even better

Just show us a GRID! We can freeze it and read it. There is no reason to repeat all the truck models again with payload. And the Ford website limits your options WAY beyond what you indicate here.

This video was put together specifically to explain the different configurations and max towing capacity for various configurations. Curious, what parts on the Ford website limit the options compared to what I showed in this video? The tow guide is available from Ford directly for people to just read but I could do a separate video for the 2022 models where the tow guide is broken down a bit more 🤔

Truck manufacturers need to abandon this useless "max payload" number and start giving customers the actual payload rating of the truck they're considering. They can easily provide an estimated payload number on their website configurator, based on the actual trim and options you've selected. The current situation of only providing the max number is misleading and shady as hell. Ford knows exactly how much each of their options adds to the truck, so they can obviously provide that number in their online configurator, same with the tow rating. They don't provide it because they don't want buyers to know how little payload the typical highly equipped truck has.

I agree with you 100% on that. Had a few people mention that their build was off by 20% or more compared to what the guide said. There's a guide for 2018 on part weight but nothing readily available for later model years.. Having that number, even if it's plus or minus 100lbs, is what people need for every OEM

Quick question...I want to get the F150 3.5 with towing capacity of 14,000. I am thinking about a trailer around 11,000-12,000 pounds. Will this burn out my truck even though I'm allowing for a decent margin. Thank you in advance.
@CarsWithSteve
@CarsWithSteve 3 жыл бұрын
If your trailer is 11,000 - 12,000lbs that's not much of a buffer at all. Don't forget about your payload that takes away from the towing capacity as well. If the trailer is 11,000lbs and all your gear and weight of passengers is 1,000 - 2,000 lbs it's tight... Plus you need to figure out the tongue weight of the trailer to see how it'll affect your max payload You shouldn't continuously tow at more than 80% capacity, especially if you're traveling places with a number of hills. It would be worth looking into an F350 with a trailer weight like that
