As a previous owner of Toyota Sienna Minivan and Kia Telluride mid size SUV (both with 7 seaters), I am not quite ready to reduce my passenger capacity despite being a new empty-nester. With all these said this Kia Sorento PHEV with 4+2 seats fits me perfectly (even better if I can choose 5+2 seats which is not available in the N. America markets where I am from), and I am proud to be the owner of this car for 5 months now with zero regrets.

1: Biggest deal breaker with this car is the second row captain chairs. Not having the bench seat essentially makes this SUV a 4 seater. Kia should have provided an option for the bench seat. The 6 seating number is so awkward. Was about to pull the trigger on the PHEV SX but couldn't get past the captain chairs so instead went with the 2022 Tiguan with a third row package 2: When I called the Kia dealer to put down a deposit for the PHEV sorento, he said there is at least a 6 month wait time to get one as the PHEVs are imported from South Korea. That's too long!

Yes, buy it with your borrowed money. Even better for the economy, get the rich get richer and poor get poorer. 😂 another of Biden’s and Trudum’s lies with electrification. Money grab from middle class. Gasoline cars are still economical to buy and operate even if gas prices go up $2 a litre. Do this mathematically instead of just believing on this hype. @@Thankyou_3 I've spent over $6000 in gas in the past 18 months in my truck. Like most people 80% of my driving is around town and back and forth to work. Driving 50 km/day on battery alone for ~1$ per charge would pay for the increased cost of the hybrid powertrain in about 3 years.

The one thing that turns me off is the split seats on the second row. As an older couple with a cottage property and a big dog (but no kids), I'd be forced to choose between keeping the rear row folded down for cargo, or for a place for my dog to lay down (because at 60kg, he's not fitting on one of those split seats). Yeah, this layout will work great for families, as long as you don't have both a dog and cargo (coolers, backpacks, tools and building supplies) - you have to choose one or the other, but you can't have both. The only solution I can see is my physically unbolting the middle seats so my dog has a place to lie....and then I have to worry about where to securely store them, keeping them undamaged and clean, etc.
@user-bl4ez3sh5g

Actually, our large German shepherd likes to lay between the captain chairs. Allows him to stretch out and is safer on the floor. If a big dog is in the back seat without a strap, that big dog becomes a heavy missile in a crash. You should test drive it with your dog.

I went to check out the Mitsubishi in Los Angeles and it doesn’t have 3 rows in the US apparently. I was surprised. Also doesn’t have the pano sunroof. It was one of the small sunroofs only over the driver. I was underwhelmed by the Mitsubishi. On a small downhill the braking was bad and grabby. Acceleration wasn’t great. All good and well until they asked for $7K above MSRP. The Kia and Hyundai options are just way better but yes more expensive.

This vehicle is in my shopping caet and it makes for the following reason. 1. My wife daily total commute is 40 km, that is 100% bumper to bumper city traffic with lots of short stop and go. Taking kids to school, dance clases and grocery plus living at the US Mexican border, we travel every weekend México border cities are all traffic and coming back to the states is a 3 hour stop and go waiting in line. Plus has right now is cheaper over there at $1 US dollar a liter. So literally we could go all electric all week and only use the gas for long travel. 2. 3 seater crossover with captain seats - we are a young family of 4 with two kids (8 and 5) and our current Mazda CX5 is too cramped, yes it's fun to drive on twisty roads, but I'm 6'1 and I like to drive with me seat all the way back. We rarely carry people, but the third row comes in handy for our parents come to visit we can all go in one vehicle instead of two. The kids can go on the back and parents in the middle and for long travel we always travel just us four. 3. The price is right- but I'll wait for the mark ups to go down. I still refuse to pay above MSRP. Now, I wish they offer a traditional shifter as is faster and you don't really save that much space by having a knob.

I know you guys alluded to the fact that a loaded Sorento PHEV is more expensive than a loaded ICE, but how much more? And what’s the entry point for a base PHEV? I believe Kia offers now an ICE, straight hybrid and now the PHEV. With gas prices going up and up, these are starting to look more and more attractive. Good review, guys.

I'm seriously considering this SUV hybrid as the replacement to my wife's 2010 Tucson commuter. 50 km is pretty much her daily commute. I like the idea of a hybrid, as the full ev support is not quite developed enough once you are out of the major cities here out west. As a family of 4 the extra seating when need is appealing. I did notice that Kia PHEV has a six speed transmission vs the ICE that has an 8 speed. Any reason why?

Sadly, unless you want heat. Kia didn't put in any form of electric heat as some other cars have, so it has to fire up the engine to create heat if you want any. Your only option is to shut off the climate control and just run seat and steering wheel heaters.

When you start to calculate the economy, keep in mind that you have to run gas engine to get vehicle heated. Considering 6 month long cold season the real economy will be no more than 2 liters per100 km. Does it worth to pay 6+ grands difference (for EX+ )?

😂 Yes only people with money to burn will buy 50K Korean made garbage vehicles. Sensible people with strong budget and don’t want to be in debt will avoid these kinda of money grab vehicles. 5 years from now, only will worth 30% of a brand new. Even Lexus and Toyota know that PHEV is a stretch to build in this size segment. KIA how about fix all your wiring issues that is causing all your vehicles burning to the ground before attempting to built vehicles in this segment. Who are you fooling??? Great scripture:- Luke 16:10 Whoever can be trusted with small things can also be trusted with big things. Whoever is dishonest in little things will be dishonest in big things too.

So the vehicle has a 13.8 KWH battery. You take your local utilities cost per kWh and multiply by the battery capacity to get the cost to charge. Example: Our rate here in Pasadena is $0.13 / KWH. 13.8 KWH x $0.13 = $1.79 to charge the battery from Zero to Full.

Diesel and gasoline will be King in my heart. They have removed good and introduce evil just like what they have done in farming. Remove organic natural food and introduce chemical fertilizers. Kia Sorento G1.6 T-GDi Plug-in Hybrid: 261 hp, 258 lb-ft @ 4,400 RPM Kia Sorento D2.2 CRDi: 199 hp, 325 lb-ft @ 1750-2750 RPM Now what do you need more in an SUV? Peak power or low maximum torque? They probably get the same fuel economy too unless you always plug it in and drive in EV mode and on the highway the diesel will blow the plug-in hybrid away.

Your missing out. Todays conventional wisdom of Kia and Hyundai needs a reboot. Much like what people thought for so many years about T-Mobile even though it quietly went on to become one of the best Mobile carriers. The same is true of Kia and Hyundai. EV's don't work if you have to tow. A Rivian employee had to tow his personal race car (6000lb load) from Michigan to Cali in his company vehicle (R1T) and only managed 100 miles per charge before being forced to pull over for an hour and recharge. It added 27 extra hours of charging time to a 2700 mile journey - and that was in summer. Since we know EVs lose half their range in the cold, we could reasonably expect he'd average about 50-60 miles per charge while towing in the winter in northern states/Canada. Completely unacceptable.
@jordanjoyce2254
@jordanjoyce2254 2 жыл бұрын
This vehicle isn't a full EV though, it's a plug in hybrid that still has a gasoline engine. It's basically a vehicle that will give you better fuel mileage with another battery that will provide 51km of electric range when fully charged. There will come a point in the next I'm willing to guess 15 years that gasoline engines will become obsolete. This will be the way of the world at some point. Yes I agree in terms of people that work outside the 9-5 life need vehicles that can work hard and tow so vehicle manufacturers have a long way to go to achieve those things. I do believe we will see all EV vehicles in the next number of years.
