The #KiaSorento was one of the first family SUV's that #Kia offered over 20 years ago. For 2022, the #SorentoPHEV is the first-ever #Sorento with a plug. It borrows the #PHEV from the Tucson and offers up to 32 miles of EV only range and up to 261 HP from its 1.6L turbo gas/electric hybrid powertrain and a 13.8 kWh battery pack. Its one of the only 3-row family SUV's on the market with a plug which makes it a very unique option in the segment.

The Kia Sorento PHEV is one of the only 3-row family crossovers with a plug and while it isn't quite as spacious as the Kia Telluride, the electrified Sorento makes for a very compelling option for families looking to buy an SUV that can seat 6 people and go over 30 miles on EV only range. We'd like to see Kia beef up the battery in an update and improve the range and power figures to over 40 miles and have closer to 300 HP.

My main issue when I look at Hyundai's website is the gas version comes in 8 trims ($29k - $43k), the hybrid only comes in S and EX trims ($34k - $36k) and the PHEV comes in only SX and SX Prestige trims ($45k - $48k). The hybrid forces you into lower trims, missing many options. The PHEV forces you into upper trims with all of the options.

This interior is hands down my favorite in the segment. Kia is offering more interior color options across their lineup than any other mainstream manufacturer. Blue, black, green, gray, brown, white and red are all colors you can get from them.

I own this exact model and don't have any issues with running in PURE EV mode ALL THE TIME, and the engine NEVER kicks on, and I'm not asking it to. If you have a LEAD foot, and won't to get up to speed in 1/2 second, yes, sorry, that's what will happen, but if you are driving an EV like an EV, then you can easily move around town, go at interstate speeds, and all your needs will be in PURE EV mode - it's great, and I love it!

I went into the dealership 100% prepared to buy one of these. Test drove it, LOVED it, then I look at the window sticker and it is $10k over MSRP. No Way am I spending Lexus money on a Kia Family Hauler. That was back in November and I call every other month to see if they are at MSRP. They are still $10k over. It is idiotic.

We bought this exact vehicle in November (at MSRP). It is perfect for families and the electric range is fine for commuting (we charge about twice a week just overnight with the included charger). With gas over $5.50 where we live it has been a great vehicle for us and the tax credit made it an excellent value

@@chriscupp really only when we take a longer trip, it has about 360 miles of combined range but when we are just in town we run basically battery only. I drove Sorento PHEV for 6k miles and I've been very satisfied with the amount of power and range. I have not driven RAV4 Prime (I assume almost no one can get one nor test drive it), but I did not need gas engine to kick in to get up to speed about 60 miles (mostly town driving). I just needed to be a little cautious for the needle in the power gauge to not go into the "power" zone. Also, with full charge, I can drive just over 30 miles which is sufficient enough for daily commute plus grocery shopping. So far, I had to visit gas station for only 8 times but it was all because of highway driving. I would say if your daily driving is less than 30 miles and you can charge it overnight, this is going to be the car you should consider in your list.

My personal best with my Sorento PHEV in terms of miles driven per full tank of gas (12.4 gallon) is 1,200 miles. I don’t think regular Sorento Hybrid can achieve that. The $6,600 tax credit I just received after filing my tax return effectively lower the price of my Sorento. In summary this Sorento PHEV makes a lot of sense to me.

I like your reviews, but this one I am going to have a counterpoint since my perspective is quite a bit different. >Many people do not want or even less to pay for a sunroof. I am one of them. > I do not care if the gas motor turns on sometimes and I think having a have a bigger battery and electric motor would not show enough yearly fuel savings to justify it. > The Rav4 Prime is not only a size smaller it is at least a full step down in luxury vs this loaded Sorento. > Pricing, the $11k difference. The step from the EX to SX is $2800. The all wheel drive option is $1800. Removing that $4600 off the difference leaves us with a $6400 adder vs the hybrid. If you then subtract the tax credit of $6600 well that makes this a bargain IMO.

Only note- we plug in at home and wife plugs in at work (35 miles) in Austin traffic. What we love is that when not in use we plug in and basically never see the gas pump. We’ve gotten over 750miles to the tank. The downside, as stated is when in long drives, the battery only covers the first 30 miles then all gas until we get to our destination.

I have the Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV which likely behaves the same as the vehicle tested here. Whenever I’m running in EV mode and the gas engine fires up for any reason, the car is much more likely to fire up the engine again in the future during the same drive. But if you turn the vehicle off and on it resets. In the future the engine will only fire up when you call for a higher bar of throttle or call for throttle suddenly after breaking hard. This is definitely frustrating because you are forced to restart your car if you really want to be in pure EV while traveling at highway speeds or pushing for normal acceleration. Otherwise you’re practically fighting with the car.

IF your driving in EV mode it does not matter if the gas kicks on because your going to use the EV miles. What you may not know is that sport mode when driven conservative will regen the battery really well adding miles to your EV driving. ON a 60 mile round trip using sport mode on the high way miles I can get a little over 60 mpg. Remember the goal is to use as many EV miles as you can and switch back to EV mode from sport when your miles home matches your number of EV miles. You want to use as many EV miles as you can to get the best MPG.

I bought one of these and would not recommend it to anyone for any reason. There's a host of technical issues with the vehicle, along with a handful of extremely poor software choices that make the car behave poorly. One example: the alarm goes off some days while sitting in the garage charging. Nothing near the car... Just goes off. Over and over and over, even if you leave it unlocked. Another: the car switches to gas mode any time the air is turned on, even if heat is not required. The gas engine stays on until you turn the car off and on again. It's also massively overpriced for a Kia. Total cost for us was 54k. In hindsight, anything over 40k is a rip-off for this vehicle.

Pointless to be plug in if the engine always comes on. Had a Honda Clarity Plug In but was getting low 30 miles to the charge when rated at 47 miles EV only. But not as sensitive as this looks on the throttle with the engine coming on. I think all Plug In are not worth the premium price tag. Just get a hybrid version and enjoy the real MPG. Picking up thr 2023 Sorento Hybrid EX AWD soon. Too bad the Prestige SX trim doesnt come with black interior.

captain chairs on a mid-size SUV is a big no no. So this is basically a 4 seater for 6'0" or taller adults. Less seating than an accord. Even if you sacrifice all the cargo, 6 adults at most. It's less usable than a hatch/sedan. Bring back the bench seats please.

Kia and Hyundai have come a long way. Kia definitely has the more appealing designs to my eye. The Hyundai versions never look as good. Genesis knocks it out the park consistently from a design perspective. That being said, i would never buy any of them. Toyota and maybe Honda are the only serious contenders for my dollars.

@@canadianaviator until you've had one. I'm a Chevy Silverado/Cadillac XLR/z06/Hummer H2 guy and all my busses I bought for my businesses were Chevy....having said that....for the most part Chevy was reliable but it took yelling to get work done once the vehicles were out of warranty for KNOWN problems. Back when my XLR headlights melted due to over voltage, a known design flaw repairable with a less than a dollar resistor....caddy was NOT going to help me at all and back then ...the headlights were only $1000.00 per eye......I had to go to a big intro the caddy executives we're hosting for a roll out and act like a bitch to make them fix it. My wife wanted a fully electric vehicle...my choice was the Tesla x....my wife refused because they had those "stupid doors that attract too much attention" so she had me buy a Kia Niro hybrid. 48 mpg city and 75000 trouble free miles later....I'm sold. Totalled it and went hybrid Sorento AWD. 30 to 31 mpg CITY! IM LIKING THAT but at only 4500 miles ..it stopped working so once I get it back....I'm getting rid of it for the Kia Ev6 GT 576 HP all electric. I'm sold. No more domestics for me.

WRONG Im getting 80 MPG in my Kia Sorento 2022 PHEV SXP. YOU will NEVER get that in the regular Hybrid 35 mpg is about all you will ever get maybe a little more if you baby it. Also the sport mode on the PHEV when driven conservative regens the battery very well adding miles to your EV driving.

Very disappointed at the integration of gas/electric in this PHEV. Using the 6 speed transmission in all electric mode and the gasoline engine starting for even slight acceleration are bad enough, but add no regen braking and it is not in the list of possible at all. Sorry, KIA, no sale period.
