I got the 22 RX 450h F Sport with the cold weather package (heated windshield wipers!!) and the Mark Levinson audio upgrade and it's exactly what I wanted; quiet, powerful, and comfortable. I traded in my genesis suv for the Lexus RX 350. Here is why. Lexus has cd and genesis does not. Lexus mirrors close along when you lock door. You can open as well as close the doors on all sides including rear doors. I love the option of using knobs to open and close radios and cds

Great video! The vehicles of the Lexus RX line are reliable and luxurious. When it comes to engine longevity and great comfort on the road, the RX series is definitely a good pick for you. These vehicles have quiet cabin noise and comfortable ambience. Economically, its fuel economy is incredible and the resale price is also great. Choose this vehicle if you want luxury, reliability, low cost maintenance, and good value if you’d want to trade it in later on. Nonetheless, the common complaints of the RX series that the Internet generally talk about are: 1) Outdated/old interior design. A lot of consumers are expecting a complete redesign. 2) Sluggish acceleration even if you upgrade to the F sport trim compared to its competitors. 3) Pricy upgrades/options for certain amenities that its competitors would provide as standard features.

I've been researching both models and found this out. The RX 450H also requires premium fuel whereas the RX 350 does not require premium which saves 20-40 cents per every gallon purchased. I believe this was another way to get more fuel economy out of the 450H so the electric engine makes almost no difference.

If you have to drive a lot of city miles, that is where the RX450h shines. For road trips, the mpgs the 350 & 450h are pretty close. However, if you have to pass in a hurry the 308hp comes in handy. I ordered a 2022 450h because I think the natural aspired V6 will probably be more reliable than the 2023 turbo4 .

February 11th 2022. I picked up my RX 450h yesterday and I really like it. I did a lot of research and I have owned the Mercedes, Audie, Porch, Honda. I think you get a really good value particularly in the AWD version. The one thing I do notice is a little steering torque. But I’ll get use to that. We also have a 2017 RX350 AWD so I have some experience with the info system. The new changes are welcomed and I don’t think it’s getting enough credit in that area.

I own a Lexus RX 450h on top of a Lexus SC 430 the I bought 20 Years ago and after owning also in the past a Lexus LS 460 for 10 Years. So you can guess I ma a Lexus fully satisfied costumer except for the UX 250h that I kept only 9 months... The RX 450h is definitely not comparable to the LS 460 in many aspects like the smooth power of a V8 and the comfort and fonctions offered by the ex flagship. But the RX it is a great SUV with more fuel economy plus a fair comfort and large interior. I owned also a Mercedes SUV that had to be changed by the manufacturer after a year because of various problems. So, in my personal experience, Lexus are today probably the most reliable luxury cars on the market and the RX is the SUV offering the best value for money and reliability as said in this review...

I took my 92 LS 400 in for service at Lexus. I asked for a RX 350 as a loaner car. Now I have a 2019 RDX A Spec and I can say thank you Lexus for the touch screen. I live in NYC and I have to to say the Lexus pad is not bad it's just some times it's just faster to hit the screen. You would think that Acura being a Luxury brand would have thought of adding a $5 to $10 part to the RDX. Well NO!!! As far a ride Quality / Quietness The RX 350 might be a little more quite than the RDX but not by much. I will say this if I had to do it again I would spend the few dollars more and get the RX 350. I keep cars for over 20 years so the cost is not much if you do the math.

I own a 2021 RX450h F Sport and love it. The eCVT transmission is smooth on acceleration, and the 3.5 V6 delivers good power. My average mpg is 28 combined, and higher in the city. This F Sport does not have the adaptive suspension option, but it does handle very well in Sport mode because the steering does become tighter and more precise. I highly recommend this SUV if you want reliability and luxury without the high maintenance cost of a European car.

We just got into our second RX (coming from a 2016 NX to 2018 RX to 2022 RX FSport). We traded our 2015 LX 570 for a 2022 RX 450h F Sport, and was the best decision we ever made. We loved the LX 570 but is loved to drink premium fuel and just became impractical with our children all older now and driving except for our youngest Son. So with only 3 people in the car the RX is perfect for our family needs. We absolutely love it, smooth quiet ride and has everything. Although I was able to find one thing that was a bit of a head scratcher to leave off. The rear sun shades that pull up on the passenger windows seem to have been left off or our fully loaded F Sport which seems odd since it has everything to include Mark Levinson, HUD and adaptive sport suspension. So why they left this easy option our of an otherwise fully loaded vehicle is hard to understand. That of course is not a big deal but was the only thing i could find to bring up that i wish had been included on the vehicle.

@@lane3002 - Congrats on your new 22 RX. Yep. There are three things missing that we noticed so far going from a fully loaded 2018 RX to a fully loaded 2022 RX F Sport: (1) no rear sunshade, (2) no power fold down on rear seats, and (3) no adjustable power leg extension on front seats. Other than that, we love it. We also get less MPG on our new RX as well, which is weird since it’s practically same engine- which is probably the AWD. We really wanted the 450H, but it wasn’t available anywhere in California.

I just took delivery for my first RX base on Saturday. I came from a BMW X3 with regular problems. I could not wait to get rid of it. I was on the fence between the RX350 and the 450h. When I did more research and found that the 450H requires premium fuel for an extra 10mpg, I choose to go with the 350. I do not think it would make sense for me to pay premium gas prices for an extra 10 mpg. if it was regular gas, i would have gone with the hybrid. maybe they can do that in the next generation.
@lane3002

Agree totally not sure what they were thinking when they decided to make a Hybrid that requires premium. We didn't realize this until after we were in the final stages of our purchase. Not sure how we missed this detail but went ahead and went through with the purchase. I do really wish it didn't require premium that is an unfortunate downside to the Hybrid option. Still we do love it and coming from the LX 570 which also used premium with 12/17 mpg we have more than doubled our mpg for city driving with 31/28

I also looked very closely at the difference between the 350 with regular gas and the 450h using premium gas. If you do the math using claimed fuel economy, the 450h is still more economical. Depends on how much driving you do and the price of the warranty plan. If you do a lot of driving (more wear and tear) and can get the full Lexus warranty plan for a reasonable price, then it's worth the peace of mind. Around $2,000-2,500 for an extra 3-4 years of full protection wouldn't be bad

You missed a really big point IMO when discussing the mileage. The RX non-hybrid runs on regular fuel, and the hybrid version requires premium, eating considerably into the meager mileage gains the vehicle might give you. When you consider the non-turbocharged v6 will run forever almost (it is a Toyota) ,and without battery concerns down the road it is a good choice for people who want quality and keep their vehicles a long time.

Great video Shari as always, Lexus is annoyingly reliable. If anyone is looking for trouble free vehicle for 10-15 years of ownership, it is at the top of the list. As a whole, Lexus is far better than Acura at least in the last two decades. Acura had the market late 80s and 90s but they got greedy and quality diminished by early 2000s. Even the paint finish and rust control is far superior on Lexus. I agree that handling on Lexus is not better than Acura however if you are looking for ultimate driving dynamics then just lease any vehicle from German automakers.
@lane5686

I agree that Lexus is better than Acura in terms of reliability but Acura has woken back from the dead with their newly refresh models. Acura is more sporty while Lexus is more luxury, but they are both still in the luxury class nonetheless. As for Lexus, the majority of the Internet and car reviewers generally agree that the RX series are outdated on the interior and sluggish in terms of acceleration even for their F sport models. Not to mention that they charge customers more for amenities by having to upgrade to higher level trims; meanwhile Acura would give you certain amenities as standard (panoramic roof, 19 inch wheels, more room, etc.) for around the same price.

@@waheedali2429 Yeah you’re right, we’re only driving as fast as the person ahead of us anyways. However, why charge people more for a supposedly F-Sport model that isn’t that much faster in acceleration than the other models? Same with the RX 350/450 L trims. The 3rd row is just tight and cramped even for children to sit in, yet it’s costly to upgrade to such trims. What I’m saying is that you could get more amenities from an Acura for less cost. These two Japanese auto industries are still top reliable cars nonetheless when compared to Germans and Koreans. You can’t go wrong with either.

In fact even only having no V8 anymore (big mistake from Lexus like the same to the S500 from Mercedes) the LS runs smooth and great with the V6, having a good gas mileage. The F Sport Version is missing some luxury but still solid and a bit sporty. In materials and quality Lexus lost a bit and in all the new Lexus the cockpit is boring and old school. LS LC RX UX, it doesn’t mater. That’s no luxury anymore. Need to change this in this price category. Still no apple car play in the 2020 LS and in the 2021 UX. By now they have it. Also we are missing here the touch screen stuff. It is at least pronounced. The 2.0 Liter petrol engine in the UX is catastrophic. I am really disappointed. Here failed Lexus totally. That’s probably why they only over the UX 250h by now. Bad transmission in action, high gears, noise, loud engine, high gas mileage and slow speed ups. So how long I will keep this one, I don’t know. I liked the cool optical design of the UX and the sporty handling. But the rough engine kills it. So at the end, I love the LS and a barely like the UX. All this unlikely downsizing stuff in engines makes not really fun at all. The LS needs the V8 back instead of copying Mercedes, and the UX needs a 2,5 Liter plain petrol engine with around 235hp and a functioning transmission engine game. Even the UX 250h doesn’t convince at the end in perfection, engine wise. The RX 450h L is awesome, engine nice, missing also an RX500h with V8.

Car and driver tested RX for 200 miles and back at 75 mph and got same 31 mpg for both hybrid and V6 non hybrid! Remember hybrid required premium gas, non hybrid regular. Save your hard earning money and buy non hybrid. My NX 4 cylinder turbo at 75 mph making 25-26 according to dashboard reading. Deduct 6-7% Toyota’s optimistic reading and you will get less then 24 mpg of premium gas

My 2019 RX450h F Sport takes 87 octane gas. Inside the fuel door, the label states it will take 85 octane, but 87 is more available and works great. No need for Premium 89 or 93.

Going from 20mpg city to 30 mpg city in the Hybrid is not a "little" better. Yes HWY mileage is a little better, but nobody drives on the FWY most of the time.

…but for someone like me who actually does drive 30 miles one way to work, I have been told a hybrid is not beneficial because the hybrid uses gas on the highway. I literally drive 60 miles a day and stop at one 4-way stop. No red lights, no other stops. I would love better gas mileage but my biggest priority is safety and reliability. I ordered the RX350L.

If you want performance buy anything but a Lexus or Toyota. If you want trouble free transportation then they are great. I dont care for the sport versions of the Lexus as the ride quality suffers and the performance is pretty much the same.

Yes, you’re right. But I would save my money and buy a TOYOTA HIGHLANDER PLATINUM (which is actually superior in many ways to this POS, which really does not offer anything over the equivalent Toyota, except the BADGE. But in this era of “badge wh***** ” tons of MORONS will buy it for that alone). Lexus *_USED TO_* differentiate their vehicles from their Toyota counterparts. But todays Toyotas and Lexi (Lexuses?), have NOISY, ROUGH and UNREFINED ENGINES, the ride is not all that great (all in the name of “sportiness” - rollseyes). In the end they don’t do anything well. They used to focus solely on REFINEMENT, COMFORT and LUXURY in the past, and they used to be DAMN GOOD at that. The RX’s main competitor, the new ACURA MDX kills the RX in these metrics. It LIGHT YEARS smoother, quieter and refined (that V6 engine is so silky smooth and refined, you can barely hear it). And it manages to be somewhat sporty, on top of that!! But, of course, its reliability and durability (like most Honda products) have really gone totally down the toilet tubes!!! And from that perspective alone, the TOYOTA product should really be the choice!! But now they’ve got this “sportiness bug up their a$$, and they’ve ruined the vehicles completely. They are still BULLETPROOF RELIABLE AND DURABLE, and for that reason alone I would buy the TOYOTA VERSION (the Highlander Platinum, which is actually much better equipped than the “lower” RX models!!)

I've had a 2021 RX350 for a few months now. Gas mileage kinda sucks, lucky to get 18 around town. Which wouldn't bother me if it had a good strong 350hp or a little more, but despite being a damn good engine, the 3.5l V6 leaves something to be desired in the power department. I would rate it as merely "adequate" in this platform. Not in the same league as the Genesis GV80 or Acura MDX. And the cargo capacity leaves quite a bit to be desired, being only around 18 cubic feet behind the 2nd row. My 2017 Ford Escape had almost double that cargo capacity, and it was quite a bit smaller than the RX. To me, the RX doesn't even seem like an SUV or crossover. More like a tall AWD wagon. If you want real SUV cargo space, looks and seating position, along with more than adequate power under the hood, get an MDX, QX60, Grand Cherokee, etc. The RX is an excellent buy for someone who is going to keep it for 10+ years, but for someone who trades vehicles more often and wants a little bit of fun and more cargo practicality in their driving experience, look elsewhere.

The value proposition of 450h is also spoiled by the fact that it requires Premium gas (at least here in the US, not sure about Canada). Some repairs are also more expensive for 450h than for 350.

I own RX450h 2017 executive with 73k km. it runs fine on regular gas. I get around 7.5 l/100 km in mixed driving in warmer months, 8.5-9.0 l/100 km or so in winter in Winnipeg. I notice a drop when they change to winter gas. It is a great vehicle for me. Transmission with electric motors is smooth. Driving is plush. I plan on keeping it for many years. I also own 2010 Camry hybrid with 270 k km. No hybrid related issues with both. So as a sign of confidence in hybrids I just factory ordered 2022 Corolla hybrid two weeks ago for my daughter.

You should not choose a car because of the brand. The car and its model must be earned in order to be bought. Lexus is no heaven or makes you feel blissful. It does not automatically mean that it is the best possible choice. Not even every time. The comparison is always worth it. Lexus rx competes in the price range which includes Toyota Highlander, BMW x4 and rx are not among the top three. BMW x4 vs Lexus rx : The X4’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The RX Series doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners. The X4 has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The RX Series doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed. To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the X4. But it costs extra on the RX Series. The X4’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the RX Series’ (12 vs. 6 years). BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the X4 for 2 years and 26000 miles longer than Lexus pays for maintenance for the RX Series (3/36,000 vs. 1/10,000). There are over 43 percent more BMW dealers than there are Lexus dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the X4’s warranty. On the EPA test cycle the X4 gets better mileage than the RX Series 60 to 0 MPH : x4 109 feet, RX Series 123 feet The X4’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50.2% to 49.8%) than the RX Series’ (57% to 43%). This gives the X4 more stable handling and braking. The X4 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the RX Series with its rear seat up (23.7 vs. 16 cubic feet). The X4 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the RX Series with its rear seat folded (50.5 vs. 32.6 cubic feet). If you switch to a lower price range with a Lexus nx, Lexus nx vs Lexus rx : Lexus nx is cheaper. The Rx has a larger interior. In a crash test using a dummy (doll), rx is much safer than nx. In the series where the Lexus nx is, it has a Volvo xc40, Toyota rav4, which are both safer than the nx. Neck injuries occur with a 40% probability on a Lexus nx ride in a 50km/h (35mph) crash test where a dummy was used. With a 30% probability on a Volvo xc40 ride and less than 30% on a Toyota rav4 ride. Toyota Camry 20%. The Toyota rav4 will be significantly cheaper than the Lexus rx or BMW x4 during the five-year ownership period. I choose the sedan car model myself. Toyota Camry is at least safe, although not the best in all areas. Choice is yours Thank you

Yes, Lexus/Toyota seem to believe that 'cow catcher' somehow imparts style and sportiness. IMO, and in the eyes of many, it's an extremely ugly feature. Now that the Infotainment system has been fixed (in the new NX), the grille is the worst part of the car. If anyone in the aftermarket parts business wants to make replacement front ends for the entire Lexus/Toyota lineup, I'm sure they'd make a ton of money.
