This is a short video of my collection day experience for my new 2022 #Tesla Model Y Standard Range (RWD). The staff at the delivery centre in Mulgrave were all very helpful and super friendly.
I placed the order for this Model Y as soon as it went on sale here in Australia which was back in June 10, 2022 at 10:25 am. Just a bit over 2 months later, I took hold of the car. It’s quite an astounding feat if you compare this with lead times from other car manufacturers.

Thanks, I’m enjoying the car right now and while its a bit expensive, I do recoup some costs from not having to service the car annually and not paying for fuel - especially with rising fuel price. Hopefully the Victorian government starts getting serious about fossil fuel alternatives because unlike NSW who gets rebates for buying EVs, we in VIC dont because the threshold is set too low and to make matters worse, they charge us at the end of the year with additional fees when you renew the registration. Hopefully this will change soon and make EV’s (including Teslas) affordable.

@@AutosNGizmos Yeah the Vic govt rushed in too quickly with that per klm charge. So it's in the courts now and we shall see what happens. It is possible that that decision may have put people off buying EV's. And for sure, we need better incentives for EV's to really take off. Also along with more non- tesla charge stations that work.

Hey @Autos N Gizoms Congratulations how do you compare the ride and suspension of Model Y with RR Velar I'm in the same boat as you thinking to get a MY and get rid of velar are you happy with overall driving experience ?
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Жыл бұрын
Hi Sash, My Velar had 21” wheels on coil suspension. I also pump the tyres with 43/44 psi air pressure (full load) so my response will be based purely on this setup. 1) Ride quality/suspension - Model Y is slightly harsher. I think if you put 30+ psi on the Velar the ride will be more comfortable but I never did this. 2) Steering input - Model Y is sharper but if you put the Velar in Dynamic mode, they both feel very similar 3) Acceleration - Model Y is the clear winner here 4) Headlights - The Velar with the adaptive matrix LED headlights is the clear winner. The Model Y headlights can only do the basic auto-high beam whereas the Velar has the adaptive beam pattern 5) Cruise Control - Model Y is the clear winner - Auto-pilot is the best in the biz IMO 6) Interior comfort - I had the HSE trim so the interior is top notch. It’s like walking from a palace to an Ikea showroom. Velar is the clear winner for me 7) Road presence - Velar is the clear winner for me. They are much bigger and better looking than the Model Y. 8) Overall driving experience - On short drives, I love the Model Y. I can forgive the seats being too soft and the headrest not providing enough cushion. I also like the fact I don’t have to spend top dollar refuelling. But on long drives (especially if you want to push the range), all of a sudden you question if the car has enough range so you can turn ON the A/C. On a 600km roadtrip which I did on two occasions, I’ve added almost 2 hours of extra travel time on the Model Y compared to the Velar because of the extra charging stops. Finally for me, the two main reasons I went from Velar to Model Y were: 1) It is cheaper to own and run the Model Y 2) My Velar will be out of warranty after almost 5 years of ownership. Would I buy a Velar again? Perhaps the full electric version if I can afford it 😁 I hope this information is helpful and good luck on your decision.

How does it feel compared to Velar? Personally I've been driving AUDI, Benz and BMW and I'm worried that hopping into Tesla would be like driving Toyota or Mazda (non premium car segment). Thanks
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Жыл бұрын
Hi Farkas, I had a 2-litre diesel Velar with 21” wheels on coil springs so from a ride-quality point of view, the MY is actually less harsher for me (note I pump 43/44 PSI on my Velar - the max load setting, compared to 42 PSI on the MY). Maybe its because the seats are softer, IDK 🤷‍♂️ Interior quality-wise, the Velar wins hands down for me. The front row seats feels smaller but the second row seats are much-roomier. I think having white seats on the MY gives it a bit of “X” factor compared to the boring black interior but the Velar interior feels like a British palace compared to an Ikea office in the MY. From a performance and driver assistance tech POV, MY is a clear winner for me. If you are coming from Petrol V6/8 engine car, it might be a step down for you but I would now as I have never owned one. So for me overall, the MY is a much better packaged car compared to the Velar D240 HSE. As a bonus, I’ve saved almost $200 on fuel cost over 1000km of driving 😊👍

Nice vid. What’s the reason you switches from the Velar to Tesla?
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the video Tony. There are several reason why I switched electric: 1) My Velar will go out of warranty In Jan 2023 and I don’t want to get stuck with it then as it is showing issues which I’m sure could be expensive to fix out of warranty. 2) Fuel price is at its highest and Tesla vehicles offer a good proposition in terms of cost-practicality point of view. I still miss all the creature comforts on the Velar (and the range it offers on road trips) but when I look at how much I saved on fuel cost to-date after 6 weeks of owning the Model Y ($300 approx), I feel its justification enough 😊 Are you also deciding to make the switch from ICE to EV?

Did you pay your finial invoice after they deducted your trade in offer? Mine invoice still shows the full amount, i have already accepted the offer. BTW, is it ok the let them have your old car with almost zero gas lol
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Жыл бұрын
Hi Eddie, I also had some issues with the amount printed on the invoice not matching the online account balance. I spoke with my sales advisor about it but they were unable to resolve it. In the end, I had a positive credit on my Tesla account which they said will be returned to me after 4-5 weeks. The problem seems to be that the trade-in credit is deducted from the payable balance on the online account but in the invoice it is not. Instrad, it is indicated Tesla will return it to you. So it seems you pay the full amount first then they return the excess funds. In my case, I initially had over $10k in positive credit but after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, it came down to $2k. But this is only because Tesla revised their trade-in offer by $2k. Have you called your sales advisor and ask them explain this issue?
@eddiexiang3606
@eddiexiang3606 Жыл бұрын
@@AutosNGizmos Thanks, I don't really have a sale advisor, I just text them with questions. Why do they revised your offer, something wrong with the car? I thought the offer is settled once you accept it.
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Жыл бұрын
Hi Eddie, Oh I thought everyone has a designated Tesla sales advisor. In my case when I placed the order for the Model Y, someone from Tesla rang me shortly after and introduced herself as my sales advisor. I just saved that number she called from into my phone contact list. But going back on topic, Tesla revised their trade-in offer and offered me more for my car actually, 😁. The reason this happened is because I asked them if I can cancel the trade-in as another dealer wanted my car for $2k more (I advertised it in Carsales). So instead, Tesla just matched the other dealer’s offer and that’s how I got more. This is probably the reason why the difference between my invoice amount and online balance went down to $2k because the previous positive trade-in credit was magically deducted from updated invoice. So maybe in your case, you can try asking Tesla what happens if they revise their trade-in offer by one dollar and see what it does with the invoice amount. Tesla’s trade-in process is not a big issue if you are paying the car in cash since they will transfer the money back to you anyway (4-5 weeks later). But if you are buying the car through finance, its a bit complicated as you can imagine since the finance company will get the invoice and will pay that full amount.

Did you trade in your Range Rover with Tesla? Was it a easy process?
@AutosNGizmos
@AutosNGizmos Жыл бұрын
Hi Cocologo, yes I traded it in. Tesla gave me a good price for my Velar. They even increased their initial offer by $2k because the original dealer I purchased the car gave me a better offer. As far as the trade-in process goes, it was generally ok apart from the final invoicing. In my case, since the trade-in value of the car is more than the amount I owe from the loan on my Velar, I have a positive credit. Tesla will not deduct that positive credit from your Tesla loan. You will only get it 2-3 weeks after as credit to nominated bank account. On the day of collection, I just left the Velar in the parking lot, signed a bunch of transfer papers and thats it. I hope this helps.
