We took in this 2022 Yamaha R7 to give it some love on the dyno! This bike came in with an aftermarket exhaust system already installed, an SC Projects exhaust, but it left with a Yoshimura exhaust for the R7. So which R7 exhaust gives the best hp and performance? SC Projects vs Yoshimura? Well, we go through all of that during this tune. We set the base line for each and then with a full tune on the dyno with real world dyno numbers to show you the actual horsepower of the 2022 Yamaha R7 stock and after an ECU flash and tune.
This bike may come with a lot of questions since it's so new, such as, Yamaha R7 Top Speed, Yamaha R7 vs R6, Yamaha R7 hp and we may get to that, but just know this bike is basically the new Yamaha R6 and competes with other motorcycles such as the Triumph Street Triple R, Aprilia RS660 and the Kawasaki Ninja 650.
The stock specs of the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 are.
- 74hp
- 50 lb-ft torque
- 414lbs wet weight
Have a motorcycle you'd like to get tuned? Give us a call.

very helpful and thorough information. using the stock exhaust would have been interesting. is it better to flash the ECU before installing a full exhaust? thanks
@provenpowercycles
@provenpowercycles 27 күн бұрын
When you get into the ecu you can choose what you want to do or don't do. On stock bikes, there are still things that can be utilized from just a flash that helps the bike ride better/more efficient. I always tell everyone, what you put into the bike, you will get back out on the back end. Meaning: if you put a full exhaust, air filter, chain and Sprocket, velocity stacks, cams, etc vs a stock bike; the tune will come out better and smoother because all the factory restrictions will be gone and off the bike and overall the bike SHOULD make more power as well (provided all of the mods run in sync with each other). 👍

Would be interesting to see the results with the Akrapovic S-Y7R12-APT full system as it utilizes longer pipe, Akrapovic claims 5.9hp gain. I have the Akrapovic pipe and I just added the Yoshimura airbox together I am told I could see 12+hp at the wheel with a proper flash.
@provenpowercycles
@provenpowercycles Жыл бұрын
Those are pretty big claims on a small engine bike such as this. However, we did not get the opportunity to compare these numbers to a completely stock R7 so I'm not sure on that data. I'd love to test and see what overall gains are made vs a completely stock bike 👍👍
@ThisOldGuy3

@@provenpowercycles Yeah I thought 12hp seemed like a lofty claim as well, I'll have to see what she feels like after I send in my ECU for the flash, after I put the airbox on she did feel peppier in the mid but I am also in Denver metro so it could just be she is getting more air and not running as rich anymore..

Good day PPC. Have you tried getting baselines from just open headers? If yes, did you see an overall lean condition on the AFR (above stoich) or was the AFR just above your target 13s? If you do a baseline on just the headers, will putting on a slip-on muffler make the AFR less lean?
@provenpowercycles
@provenpowercycles Жыл бұрын
Sorry on the delayed response. I have not dynod it with just the headers! My guess would be that it would lean it out slightly more so than what we were reading. When you add back pressure, you typically get a more rich condition vs a bike that flows more air through it with a larger or more free flowing exhaust. 👍
@ManCannotRide
@ManCannotRide Жыл бұрын
@@provenpowercycles Thanks. Do you think that if say, we dyno the bike with open headers then we see a leaned out AFR, will you be able to tune it to get back to the optimal target AFR?

Great comparison, mate! I was especially invested as I have an R7 with the Yoshi full pipe as you had in the end there so it was nice to see that it outperformed the SC Project ever so slightly 👏🏽😃. I do like the tone of the Yoshi a bit better so no buyers' remorse from me. I was a bit surprised that it ran so rich stock esp after the SC were fitted. I hadn't dyno'd mine yet and I was actually worried that it might be running a bit lean! I also have the DNA filter installed (improves the induction tone but I can't really hear it anymore after the Yoshi had gone in haha) as well so I'm curious whether that would actually help bring the AFR back up closer to ideal? Have you done any tests with both the air filter and Yoshi and see what that combo is like?

When you correct air to fuel ratio does it improve the mpg and does it affect reliability of engine?
@provenpowercycles
@provenpowercycles 9 ай бұрын
When afr is optimal compared to an overly rich mixture, it will save on fuel mileage. Some bikes have an overly lean mixture. So we would need to enrichen the afr to make it optimal which, in turn would lower fuel mileage. Everybike is different, so it all depends 👍

Great vid. I'm not understanding why a tuned R7 with exhaust is maxing ~47 lb-ft torque and ~71 hp, when the stock specs of the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 are 50 lb-ft torque and 74hp. Are all bike stats from the dealer this inflated, or am I misunderstanding something?

For what i know the manufacturer data are often referred to the power at the shaft not at the wheel
@NakedBikeJase
@NakedBikeJase 8 ай бұрын
Yes, manufacturers typically quote hp measured at the crank. Dyno tunes by nature, are measured at the rear wheels which in turn typically results in a 8 to 12% (or more) loss through the drivetrain. So in this case, 71hp and 47lb-ft at the wheels are actually quite impressive and indicates that some gains were made over stock!

Looks like one manufacturer spent more time developing their system ! .....not just making it look pretty. This engine is crying out for racier cams to make more power, the torque curve looks like a single/off road bike. Mild cams mean it doesn't need much in the way of restrictions though 🙂
@provenpowercycles
@provenpowercycles Жыл бұрын
I believe the newer bikes are coming with more of a midrange setup because of the emissions now. The newer busas are the same way. Smaller cam profile vs the older models and they have similar looking power curves. But that also leaves room for us power hungry people to look for and develop ways to pulling up that top end powerband 😏

More or less yes. It still can cause damage by running too rich. You can have too much fuel in the system that could bleed past piston rings and into the block/cylinder walls. This will break down your oil much quicker than a normal interval causing just as much havoc on your motor as running lean. Food for thought 🤙

@provenpowercycles
@provenpowercycles Жыл бұрын
Typically, when you remove the catalytic converter, the bike will run lean (too much air), which can cause excessive heat inside the motor, causing damage over time. On THIS particular R7, it ran rich (too much fuel), which can cause issues as well. If the bike runs excessively rich then fuel can actually make its way past your pistons/piston rings and break down your oil prematurely, which can cause spun rod bearings and other issues as well.
