I honestly love this car. However, I think the 240i is the sweet spot for this car especially because of price. Also, I always find it funny seeing all the other reviewers in the same place! I love trying to spot them in each other's reviews.

M240i is more daily driver oriented. Quieter, smoother driving, AWD option. People who want a track focused M240i would rather just get an M2.

Excellent review. Love the honesty - including starting off with your true first impressions of the car. I guess it’s odd to expect anything different from the well publicized sum of its parts. Still, it’s a bummer that it seems to have lost some of the OG M2s qualities.

Nice, honest review. As an owner of an OG M2 6 speed (that I love), I’ve watched several reviews from this event and saw a wide range of opinions. Note that the WHEELBASE actually is 4.6” shorter than the M4, so it should rotate a bit better. It’s the TRACK width that’s the same as the M4 (same suspension except for tuning).

I'm a BMW fan (I own 2 of them) and I especially like their M performance models but the full M cars are really disappointing across the board at the present moment. I think your description of fast and computerized is totally valid. I can tell even through a video. Not even the manual can save it

Not really sure what this reviewer wanted or expected from this car. The days of hydraulic steering and 1m kinda cars is over. Without all of that bias factoring in.. This car is great for what it offers.

Small correction: The M2 does not share the same wheelbase as the M4. It is several inches shorter. Your points are good tho, in that BMW will likely not make a tiny hot-rod going forward. Like all the newer sporty cars, even the likes of the Cayman, they have become more refined and GT-like. But be happy, because in 5 years, all these cars will be electric, have no gears and just 'whir' their way around.

I bet the forums will hate on this review, but I felt that this was the best review so far for my consideration of buying the car. Straight to the point, no shilling. Although I think just trying the auto M2 wouldve probably made a difference. What are the best alternatives to this car then?

Thanks! I actually did drive the auto later in the video, and it did make a difference. I would say Cayman, Supra 3.0, CT4 BW all make strong cases off the top of my head. New Mustang would be cool too.

great review. i just got my allocation for one. i might get flamed for this, but if you are going to daily drive this, in NY traffic every day, i think you want a more refined car...that is also an auto.

For anybody looking at an F-chassis or G-chassis manual BMW: rear shift bushing. $100, an hour or two of time under the car, and the shifting experience is vastly improved. It's not perfect, but a very small investment to cure 75% of that 'rubbery feel'

The steering wasn’t better with the F87. That’s just something typical of modern BMWs. The G80s have better steering feel than the F80s did. That’s not saying much. Both are pretty numb.

All reviewers enjoy the automatic more. Rare to see it, but it is what it is.

Hi! I have to decide between the manual and the auto. I am usually that type of guy who loves a high reving NA-feeling manual drive. Would you say that the manual feels more like driving a high reving manual car and the auto is more like the usual turbo low revving power delivery? With my type of liking do you think the manual will be good for me? Thanks!

I think that's a decent way to look at it. It definitely is more important to keep the revs up on the manual car. Still isn't as satisfying as an NA motor though.

at least one honest review. i'm honestly surprised though that everbody seems to agree on the fact that the automatic is the better pick. very disappointing that they messed up the manual imo

BMW has just unfortunately never made a very sporting MT, going back through the years. Especially to those who come to appreciate the more bolt-action mechanical feel of Japanese MTs.

@@pushslice I agree, but those can be fixed by installing a SSK or a more solid gear selector - not actually an issue with the transmission itself. But if the gearing is off, there is really nothing you can do about it

Ngl i thought this car looked really ugly at first but it's definitely grown on me. I think it has a sort of retro look to it. It reminds of the e36/e46 a bit with the boxy styling

Nice review. Do you not think though that the modern car feel (I.e. so much refinement inside especially) makes them more like a GT car in general? nowadays you almost need to go to a hardcore lightweight to find that true sportscar feel. Personally I love the look of this (haven’t driven it yet) but just looking at it (and the specs) you know it won’t be as raw as the predecessor(s). Interesting on the engine though. Also this type of car I think suits the auto nowadays not the manual anymore and I really appreciate a manual in general. So good point on this too. 👍

I like the styling! Not too big of a... sniffer. The rear is quite nice too, not overdone and outrageous. Interior is pretty similar to most other BMW's which is hit and miss for some aspects. Steering wheel seems to be nice size and diameter. I guess it is difficult to decide where the car stands in the M line-up. It's like a baby M3, but not quite a full M3 nor is it a full M4. I guess it's for those who want something sporty and fast enough without going to the "full size" M4 or having an M3 which I'm sure is more common than these M2's.

Great review mate. My brother has Red manual on order in Australia He owns a OG M2 but is selling it Loves it but getting old. My view is F87 looks better but drives wild for younger person feel. Goes party to much. G87 still like the looks but is a grown ups M2 and haa lost it's youth.

It’s a bit of a disappointment that this car is heavier, has a bigger motor, and yet has about the same performance as a M240i. But it sure looks fun to drive! Does the 6 speed manual on this car feel less refined than the reworked manual on the 2023 Supra? I think I’ll keep my Supra which is a driver's car, until BMW fine tunes this car and loses some weight.😕

I currently have a 23 6M Supra.. everything is still stock except R888 tires, brake fluid and pads, JB4 and downpipe. Recently my friend let me drive his G87 M2. In comparison the manual transmission feels better in the Supra. The Supra also feels more eager to rotate and let loose. B58 feels to have more low end power. But after a few laps around the track you really notice how much more ahead and capable the M2 is vs the Supra.. the weight difference is not an issue on the track and the S58 having so much more mid to top end makes it more suitable for the track Love the 10 step traction control.. you can really dial in how you want the car to react. Brakes are crazy good.. on stock pads and fluid.. did 5 consecutive hot laps and no fade. Was so impressed on how good the stock M2 was on the track, I traded my 5 month old Supra for a G87 M2. I figured the amount I will have to spend to get the Supra to the level of a stock M2 would cost me more money. Anyways loved the Supra.. I think its more fun for messing around the streets and small canyon roads.. but I want a more track focused car and the M2 suits that better.

If you can afford it, I would say definitely. Cayman would be more apples to apples, and I would still say yes.

Thanks for telling the truth, ugly, expensive, heavier, less driver engagement... older m2 cs is the way to go. It's also got bigger, wider, etc I can't get over the looks easy pass for me
