They sounded a bit different, but there were MORE similarities than differences. I think the Gibbo sounded just a bit more refined, but the Epi was NOTHING to be ashamed of! Epiphone are making some seriously GOOD instruments again these days!

Put this video to play in the background. Every time I got excited about hearing something special in your playing, it was always Epiphone (3 times). I think that is the best test you can do.

With a good eq pedal you can make Epigone sound just like the Gibson, if that's the sound you want.

They both sound great, however I prefer the Epiphone; it seems to have something the Gibson is lacking. To me it sounds like the Epi has more low-mids in it, whereas the Gibson has more defined top end. I'm guessing that in a mix, the Gibson might cut thru a little bit better. If I did not already have a singlecut style PRS, I would definitely consider the Epiphone.

I reckon the sound difference is pretty much negligible and something that can always be adjusted with the settings on the rest of the rig. What you are paying for is the details. I'm super happy with my Epiphone but have ordered a fret end file to smooth some edges myself since a couple of them are sharp as hell. Things like that would not leave the Gibson factory. That's what you pay for, the craftsmanship and time it takes to ensure things are perfect. In the end up to your wallet more than your ears.

i cant tell and the other day I was in GC and tried a 3k Gibson les paul standard and a $699 Epiphone 59 les paul standard and I liked the epiphone better

Pickups in the Epi are sweet. But I’m sure the playability is what really tell them appart. Plus quality of components

Hey quick question...for riffs like the first portion of your demo, would you choose the epiphone or a prs semi hollow? I play those brocken up chords in the songs i write. Kinda torn.

Two months ago I had two Les Pauls at home for a set-up (two friend customers). The Les Pauls were aprox the same year (2014-2015) and the same weight. 'Cause I have 5 gibsons (335, 345 stereo, 175 TD, SG 61, 330L custom), I couldn't resist to compare between them in a "double blind" test, and hear carefully at the recording tests. I marked them as LP1 and LP2. Same playin' etc... All the same, and there was a noticeable difference between them. More sound texture differences than I can hear in this video with the Epi and Gib. So I ended up prefering LP2 over LP1 (and, of course, I didn't tell anything to the customers).

The epiphone has the edge on the gibbo, I like the fact that Epiphones are machine made to tight tolerances, i don’t prefer hand made instruments as it can be a wider variation on the human input, Epiphones have a legendary tradition dating back to 1800’s also. They are less desirable to be stolen which is good for a working musician with a mobile walk away work horse, they also are very fair priced, go for a fret dress, buy a HS case and be done with it.

I have this generation Epiphone Standard. It is a solid guitar and quite usable for anything. In these pristine recording conditions the Gibson pickups in particular are much much better.

i have them both since my uncle gave it away to me lol and they don't have much difference to be honest.

The Epiphone LP is the best guitar you can buy for $600 period.

I was away from my phone when he started playing. I have a “high end” set of Bluetooth earbuds $130 US dollars. And I thought the first was then Gibson. I thought the 2nd guitar sounded thinner in tone. I was SHOCKED to find the first guitar was the Epiphone. Just my .002 cents

I'm not going to make comparisons on sound. Both are great; it simply depends on which sound you prefer.

The Epi could be lacking a Little bottom end, but I can make that up in the Amp for $4500. I like my Epiphones, 4 of them !

WOW! The Epiphone sounds amazing! I hear slight differences. But nothing displeasing from the Epiphone.

I spent an hour in Guitar Center playing a dozen Epiphone LP's and SG's. They're good guitars for the price. But they don't have that sweetness in the tone Gibsons have. Even the expensive Epi's with Gibson pickups. They definitely feel cheaper in your hands. Nitro finishes have a nice feel, and smell. A lot of the epi's had rough frets, dried out fretboards, fretboards with pale wood, sharp fret ends, and needed setups. Gibsons plek'd necks have outstanding playability. The knobs and switches feel more solid. You get what you pay for. For me, I feel less difference between classic vibe Squier's and MIM Fenders.

I've got a epiphone classic honey burst . It feels just as good as a Gibson ..when all said and done it's miner issues such as headstock so it's not worth paying unless you want to Bragg about the badge... Volkswagen Passat.. Skoda Octavia .. different factory different badge.. different price . Same company..you get my drift

Some reviewers are saying the 50s lp epiphone is a match for most gibson lp standards. But generally its is the luck of the wood used. 10 gibsons hanging on a wall. Some will sound warm and sustain. Some wont. Well done epiphone. The epi custom is a warmer guitar fact.

There’s nothing between them in terms of sound. Feel wise I can’t imagine the difference in price is worth it. That said I have a 2020 Epiphone 60’s and a 2018 Gibson faded T both are great but the Gibsons gives me a bigger smile.

I think there’s more of a controlled feeling in a Gibson. I’m a complete epiphone player cause I’m broke (although I did replace the bridge with a burstbucker Gibson pickup and it sings), but there’s something about that call and response on a Gibson. But of course that’s expected, don’t be afraid to play epiphone! Tired of it getting shit on

Bruh... That 60s from Epiphone was hotter, go watch the blue Epiphone vs 1959 video , it sounded closest to the actual 60s Gibson. Makes me want to go get one purely because the fact that it's even in the same conversation speaks volumes. Amd during the soundcheck one of the employees pokes his head in "that guitar sounded awesome!! Which guitar was that (knowing they were playing vintage Gibson's... It was the blue Epiphone 😅.. would be curious to hear the ibg 60s vs the new 1959 with the larger open book headstock as they both share the same pickups now. Aesthetically its satin vs gloss, and the 60s has a short tenon n the 1959 will have the long tenon but it would still be interesting as hell to hear the difference

Neck P.U.''s sound the same. Bridge P.U.'s don't. The Epi sounds warmer. Even though it is a minute difference, the bridge P.U. on a Gibson sits ~1/2 bridge width closer to the P.U. (which sounds brighter).

There is a difference tonally but it’s negligible. There is way a difference in the feel of the two though.

The gibson sounded heavier even without distortion. But still not worth spending 6k. But if you're someone who's not gonna loose sleep about money then go for gibson.

With the years, since epiphone started making the cheaper alternatives to Gibson, theres a big difference. An epiphone LP from the 80s or 90s would probably sound significantly worse, because the good electronic was expensive Nowadays, with so much improvement in technology, most of that sound difference is becoming less and less audible. Good electronics dont have to be expensive, and in fact is quite cheap. Its really close now, but if you compare a 90s epiphone LP to a 90s Gibson LP, it would be very easy to tell, which had worse tech

Put the Gibson Pickups on the Epi. You won't hear any difference then.

The Epiphone is good enough to play casually, play/jam with your friends and for many simple noisy gig scenarios. Gibson is a completely professional sound and feel. Some tones were good on either, in others the Gibson sounded like a whole different beast; but you can get something good and enjoyable out of either. Now... let's say the difference in tone is probably 5-10%? but how much faster is Usain Bolt compared to the last-placed competitor at the Olympics? he's nowhere near that much faster and you have never even heard of the other guy. They're both waaaay faster than you will ever be; so whether you have an Epiphone or a Gibson, you will still sound like crap and nobody cares. But... if you can afford a Gibson, you will feel it and notice it every time you play. So the more you play and the more you value that experience, the more that 5% difference matters.

epiphone put up one hello of a fight... against the almighty LP. Truth be told, do you want a Rolex or SEIKO , both tell the time and look great, but it is a rolex... sort of a Name... I say blind test them.

They are nothing like each other in reality, the Epiphone feels like what it is, cheap chinese plastic covered tat, the Gibson is an Iconic work of art. Also if you buy second hand, Gibsons are much better value for money, you can always get your money back.
