We quickly review the updated 2023 GMC Denali Ultimate, which amps up the body on frame three-row family SUV to the max. The price also hits $97,000 on our tester, putting this against serious competition. For those who want a serious truck that can tow and haul in luxury, this may be a good choice. Others to consider are the, Lexus LX600, Lincoln Navigator, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Cadillac Escalade, BMW X7, and Mercedes GLS.

My friend works for GM as an engineer. He gets to take home almost any SUV or truck you can think of, and they're all 1 year ahead of what's available. We drove around last summer in northern MI in this exact vehicle. I drive a little ford fiesta as my daily. This Yukon was absolutely amazing. I'd never ever spend that kind of money, but if you think you can afford it, it's plush as all hell.

The funny thing is, that seemingly crushing critique of it could also be translated into "Totally fine for old people with hearing aid." - At least as long as you can reduce the bass. It's probably the same cynical-pragmatic marketing design approach as with piano black as superficial fancy and how that impression sells cars: Old people tend to be unable to hear high frequencies, so it is safe to save money there. (But it's still a bit appalling for that price class, because even for a big hunk like that it is high-end pricing.)

I can't believe I'm saying this but I really like the interior on this GM. The fact that it has a 6.2 V8 is a huge bonus too. We'll see if their newer version of cylinder deactivation blows up as quickly as the old version, because we already know the transmission is toast at 100,000 miles.
@KevRC4130

Totally agree, I think this interior is great. Kind of a ski lodge, gadgety/tactical feel, unpretentious in attitude and honestly even somehow that makes me appreciate some of the more durability-minded (read: "cheap") material choices - the shot where the rear center console was all scuffed up from feet makes it feel believable as a family vehicle, not so precious as a "true" luxury vehicle. And of course a decades-proven lineage of this platform and engine, with a big V8 - I can dig it.

I bought a 2002 Denali new. Kept it for 17 years and 380k miles. AutoRide went out somewhere around 100k and i never got it repaired. Didn't really need it since I never towed and the ride was still quite good. Center coupling had to be replaced 2x, and it was in need of a second transmission rebuild when i got rid of it. Also there was significant rust under the running boards. Engine still wasn't burning/leaking a drop of oil though. Best vehicle I'd ever owned to that point. Definitely got my money's worth.

I had a Chevy Suburban Premier and after 18k miles I traded it in as so many of the systems were failing and the dealership couldn't get parts. The third seat folding motor broke. The automatic running boards broke. The cooling fan in the drivers seat broke. When trade-in values went to the moon I took advantage of them and dumped it for nearly what I paid for it. I wish the quality had been better as it was a really nice vehicle and I liked most everything about it. But with the amount of repairs needed it would have been too risky to keep.

Well this thing will haul much more than the LC - in terms of pax and tow - so apples/oranges. That said if they were similar, I'd go with a less than 5 year old LC compared to a new one of this. In 10 yrs LC will be fine and this will be in the junkyard.
@electrikoptik
@electrikoptik Жыл бұрын
@@Bren39 Since the LC300 is not sold in the US we can compare the Lexus LX with the Yukon Denali Ultimate now that they are similarly priced. The LX600 can tow max 8000 lbs which is the same as the max 8000lbs tow rating of the Denali Ultimate. The LX has a payload rating of 1565 lbs meanwhile the Denali Ultimate has a payload rating of 1616 lbs an advantage of 51 lbs. Yes the Denali has more space to put more stuff but weight wise you're not going to haul a ton more. And also the Denali Ultimate comes standard with panoroof which pretty much makes hauling cargo on the roof useless unlike the LX.

It's a nice vehicle that serves its intended purposes well for hauling lots of people and towing. The problem is, it seems most people who buy these vehicles don't need them for their intended purposes. Rarely do I see these with more than 2 people in them and rarely are they towing. So they end up just being excessively conspicuous consumption for daily commuting, which makes the drivers look like knobs as they tailgate with their headlights shining in your mirrors, clog up the roads and parking lots, and block other drivers' visibility.

Rarely do I see corvettes at the track… Rarely do I see convertibles with their tops down… Rarely do I see S class sedans driven by a chauffeur… Etc. @@upshifter5316 @palebeachbum ...taking it a step further... rarely do I see economy cars hyper mile-ing... I mean why do I see people trying to drive economy cars fast? They were made for fuel economy. Anyway, that comment gets so old. I used to have a F250 diesel that I always kept mint and of course I drove it alone as it was my main vehicle for 90% of the time. However, it also towed my 16k lb fifth wheel travel trailer occasionally across the country. It went on construction sites. It moved all kinds of stuff. Yet, 90% of the time people saw a nice clean F250 with a single person driving it. Right now I have a mint new Denali 1/2 ton pickup. Drive it solo 95% of the time, and always pristine. Yet I've moved the belongings of a house with it, towed my car and belongings in a large cargo trailer that I also own, brought down tree's/limbs. Yet, you and everyone else are most likely to see me driving it alone, in detailed condition; and some observer somewhere will use that as an example of someone who just owns a truck for no reason, "and it's not even dirty".

This type of SUV will always remind me of the tacky “dub crowd” at its peak circa 2006-8. They’re not complete without ripped jeans and an MMA t-shirt worn by a guy who’s never taken a punch in their life and was standing after.

I generally think very few people actually can justify needing these types of vehicles. They are mostly used as suburban commuter vehicles, but at least they are now legitimately nice, comfortable cars instead of the lipstick-on-a-pig, gussied-up plasticky work trucks from the early 2000s era...

This review is like your second choice girl for the senior prom. Most people that have the money for one of these don't care about the gas milage or stereo sound..It's about being seen when their tooling around the burb's....Thanks for nice review Jack....

When the audio is tuned with no highs and bumpy bass, the effort was clearly made to calibrate the features to its intended audience. This was made to scare old people in their 20-year-old Camry and Avalon retirement vehicles, and to know it's proper place and to bow in the presence of an Escalade.

At 100k it is a bit of a stretch… however at 60-70k for a base level Suburban with the 3.0 diesel one gets a lot of capability and still decent (if not, pretty exceptional) fuel economy.

I honestly hope these manufacturers price themselves out of existence. Then someone will come along and start building, reliable, practical vehicles that people can actually afford.

We got the Denali XL, and that alone will save you a ton and get you 99% of the way there. I think the real question is, are these options worth the premium over regular Denali?

People love these too. Would never buy this for 100k especially when they have x7 SQ7 Gls lx600 and range rovers in that price range. 100k Tahoe no way.

It would be nice to incorporate the 9 seat version into upper trim levels - what's the point of all this space if it can't be used? The extra seats turn into consoles when not in use.

Why do manufacturers keep placing the shift knob and/or lever in the center where it takes up space for cub holders, phones, and stuff?

@@Dowlphin I’m sure some of those costs are due to paying folks a good wage to build these road tanks. In reality, that may only contribute to maybe 30% of the cost of the vehicle.
