We got one of these, I love it. I can be a snob about cars. The reality is that there is no perfect car, you have to find the sweet spot between price, functionality, and what YOUR value points are. We got this because my spouse hauls horse stuff (Saddles, bridles, saddle pads, boots, etc.) in bins. Very roomy for that type of hauling stuff. It does great on those rough roads at the barns and stables, we're not off-roading or racing in this thing. Great gas mileage and consistent. Great functionality in terms of safety stuff, adaptive cruise and active lane centering is very important to us. It is definitely a very attractive car, looks aggressive. It's fun to drive. We compared this to the same year Toyota RAV4 and I hated everything about that, seemed cheaply made. This car seems very well built, when you close the door, you get the whoomp. Again, this may not be for everyone, but it is perfect for our needs.

@@adrianhrusca4067 you right , plug in is much different car , but , when i went to honda for test the crv , they give me a normal hybrid. i ve tried all model of rav 4 hybrid so i really can compare the two cars. the crv is not mature like a rav4 , maybe it is a little bit more modern or nice , but the hybrid sistem honda is pure crap. 2 cluch , low cluch the crv drive always electric , when you need more power , the second cluch rise and the engine will contribute to give power. at the end nearly 180 or more horse power , NOT ENOUGHT AT ALL , now up to you choose what is the best , i dont earn money from toyota , i just give you my opinion , toyota sinergy hybrid drive is the best. sorry my english , i dont use translator

I don’t think I’ve ever disagreed with you on something so much. The CRV is and has always been a much better choice than a RAV4. To me the Rav4 is just incredibly boring and the interior bland, driving is bland. I agree that it’s not the most sporty to drive, especially with a CX5 but it by far is a segment leader with great reliability, gas mileage and the best thing about Honda is just how simple they make things.

The interior quality on the Rav4 is just awful and I am not talking about seat material but if you look around you and feel the plastics I am sure that some of them won't age well, like the plastic around the window switches and the switches themselves, the plastic trim on the steering wheel, the Armrest was also rattling in 3 cars that I test drove. I prefer having less fuel economy and being in a nice quality interior than a Rav4 which is a really good car but it has things that bother me, as a buyer, a lot. For the CRV I think that it's good looking but too expensive in Greece.

@@jeffreya8329actually, the cvt is not really a standard cvt, or even an Ecvt. It doesn’t use belts, it uses a couple clutches and gears. The Car Care Nut sis a little speaking on it in his review, and really praised the design. He knows what’s up. This cvt, and Toyotas ecvt are two that I would not mind having, that that’s from an anti-cvt motor enthusiast.

The hybrid system doesn't have shift shock during full acceleration because all that engine is doing is generating power to send through the electric motor. It only ever connects to the wheels directly at highway speed at low throttle inputs. All other times it acts as a serial hybrid. Alex on Autos/Auto Buyers Guide has a couple good videos on how it is engineered. This is why the engine also sounds odd... because the clutch disconnects when flooring it, the engine does not have much externally to work against, so it instantly hits peak RPM.
@dogshmog
@dogshmog 3 ай бұрын
You are correct, but the CRV has a low speed direct drive as well as the high speed. I’ve seen it engaged at mid 20’s, also low throttle inputs, similar to the 42mph+ high speed lock-up.

Got my 2024 for my sons first birthday... I was shocked by the space available in the vehicle. Almost every other car is jam packed and the car seat would nearly rub the driver seat when I'm in it (6'2"). So, I'm glad to have all this room and the door that opens 90 degrees. I don't plan on taking it off road, but your video at least gives some confidence if I hit some trails for camping in the future. I do like that it is a bit sporty but, it's not a sports car or sedan so I won't try to push it like one. I don't really understand why so many reviews talk about any of that for a crossover/suv. Go drive a GMC Typhoon or something lol.

@@atmartensThe Passport isn't exactly the same segment though. It competes with cars like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ford Edge, while the CR-V competes with the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson. And they really need to bring it up to date with the CR-V and Pilot, it seems awfully neglected by Honda. On top of that it's far from being as off-road capable as the Grand Cherokee or Subaru Outback Wilderness for example.

@@HeortirtheWoodwarden I agree it’s not in the same segment, the majority of owners are not off-roading. Same would go with the Forester and Rav4 owners. People who are looking at vehicles that can typically go a little bigger, like the Cherokee and Outback which is why they made the Passport. I know Honda may be missing out on some, but the majority of owners getting CRVs care that it has better gas mileage, and not that it has a robust AWD system.

Would be interested to see how it would have done with the first part of the off-road part in snow mode. And I am pretty sure the burning you smelled was brakes. Honda doesn’t have a side to side clutch in either the front or rear for transferring power left to right. So it was trying to brake the spinning wheels. So wondering if snow mode would lower that spinning threshold and get you going easier.

Wasn't the smell of the clutch which is connecting and disconnecting the thru axle? Brakes usually don't smell that bad. I thought Honda used 2nd electric motor for 4WD but they used more conventional thru axle for some reason. But seems working well

Both different but for my use very close in many ways. Since you owned a Mav, any thoughts about the two for basic everyday driving? More bang for the buck with the CRV luxury and features wise, that’s easy to see. But what about driving and overall comfort? Never had a bells and whistles type of car and my only needs at my current age is Heated Seats and Steering Wheel which I can get in the Lux package in the Mav. Ride quality, from highway (reduced noise) to badly maintained bumpy roads (superior than all previous models suspension), is a HIGHLY noticeable with the TOURING model, but I cannot say I am totally happy with my purchase. Max-100km/hr highway merging/passing power is still at anxiety-inducing levels. What a great MISSED opportunity for Honda. Give up on the RDX already! We have had enough of your pricing ladder BS in North America. Give the Honda CR-V more capability, instead of the 'entry to entry-to-luxury' RDX. Bought this because of the various improvements you touched on despite the scandalous no-spare decision on Honda's part. Yes, we will drive the hybrid mostly in the city, but the ENTIRE reason I buy a crossover instead of a station wagon is so that I can go as far away from the city as possible with my CARGO: camping gear (90%) or carrying TWO bicycles inside (10%)... Without a spare... I will need to carry one of my winter tires with me, taking up an incredible amount of space, ruining my camping cargo capacity, and making it impossible to carry two bikes inside. Passport? Yeah, the current model - not a chance.

This is the BEST channel for off-road reviews. I simply don’t waste time on watching anything else (being fed up with the most prolific KZfaq chatters and dealerships beggars). I am familiar with this car but had no chance to try it off-road. It does not seem to be among the best off-readers in its class due to the poorest approach angle and low ground clearance. From the practical buyer’s point, I would consider the Sport (not Touring) hybrid only. It looks better and is more pleasant to drive than the turbo version with its annoying CVT. As a note: the 2023 CR-V does not (underline not) share the chassis with the Civic. For those who are interested in some more info on the Hybrid: m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9CWedx81Jrdpqc.html

22:38 I don't think it's clutch since it doesn't have a clutch until the engine is connected directly to the transmission. It's probably brake pads since they are essentially made of the same materials and you got a lot of wheel spin there when the system is trying to redistribute power. Honda probbaly could have been a little more aggressive on the brakes clamping down wheel spins like Subaru does.

I've been looking forward to this one. I don't know much about the cars, but I feel like it would be an easy sell for me if this had the same AWD setup that the Pilot does. Maybe it does? I guess I'd better get to watching the video and find out how it goes. 😎

No, the CRV and HRV use a similar system. The CRV has never used the same system as a Pilot or the Passport. The CRV can’t handle as much off road. VTM-4 and Acura’s SH-AWD are some of the best AWD systems.

I’m still baffled by the MSRP in Canada for this trim. 60K$ + taxes for a CR-V? Come on, Honda Canada… The base hybrid is 55k$. Tell me you don’t want to sell hybrids in Canada without telling me you don’t want to sell hybrids in Canada.

It has a launch control function. If you launch the car it won't do that fake shifting and it is around 1 second faster 0-60. Civic Hybrid in Europe which has the same powertrain does that.

I like this vehicle but in Canada, they are just too much money (top spec $59k). More than the Toyota Venza we bought (got our Limited for around $55K), which I think drives nicer, is quieter, quicker to 60 (7.5 seconds), has a spare time, and gets (we are) 38+ mpg regularly (Consumer Reports got 37 mpg with their CR-V Hybrid). Plus, after watching Ryan's videos of the Venza, it does pretty well (limited) off road. A compromise is less storage and lack of knobs in the Venza. But we did a driving trip for 4 months and we never had a lack of space.

Have a 23 1.5. Great vehicle. Not cheap especially with add on's. Change out the crappy OEM tires with some premium all season touring tires and it is very quiet. The turbo engine had been refined so it's much quieter than before with almost no lag. I still don't understand this obsession with off rode performance. This with proper tires is all to conquer winter driving.

My biggest pain with this car outside its pricing is the lack of features and technology and space. The interior is poorly laid out and in this version they make it difficult to place things in places. We lose significant storage space in the center where an underpass could have been place for additional storage inside the front. The car lacks modern tech like remote start via device or lock and unlock or the trunk lift assist. That feature only available in the top trim and top gas trim. The hybrid sport is $37k or so and barely has heated seats, done horribly by Honda, no radio stations work, and USB A for CarPlay or Android Auto which work better over USB-C. The connection signal fails 9 times out of 10 due to Honda’s poor implementation of this new open source software and currently faces issues with radio cutting off and sometimes no longer working. Honda states no fix is available and owners have to deal with it till they can resolve it as it’s been an issue for thousands of owners I was told by Honda Customer Service. The seats are just so uncomfortable and def don’t match an almost $40k price tag in this car you can’t even get SiriusXM in or keep a drink in the cup holder. The holders are so bad they fly around the car causing spills and such. Honda’s new vent system while striking doesn’t do anything to assist in placing a phone mount or anything of that nature. While the area beneath the hvac control works the device slides all around and case or open phone get damaged. The half digital gauge is terrible and makes the car feel cheap and Mitsubishi like. As a Honda CR-V sport Hybrid owner I’ve been disappointed in this car and the issues Honda can’t even fix. The poor fuel economy has been a surprise with in town 25-27mpg and Hwy getting me 24. I feel like I have an all gas model hauling a horse trailer with horses to get these numbers. Honda is one of the worst places to talk to when it comes to customer service as they cannot handle customer input well. The dealerships are worse. Some of the worst in the country when it comes to needing assistance. I’m ready to drop this car for a different one that shows it’s worth the cost because so far the price and car don’t match up regardless of anything said about owning a Honda.

We have just bought the top of the range Honda CRV PHEV and are very happy indeed, interestingly though the model we have is front wheel drive whereas the cheaper models are AWD which just strikes me as odd. I think the front wheel drive with snow tyres would cope use as well as I previously had a BMW 5 series tourer when fitted with snow tyres went places where summer tyres 4X4 just couldn’t do. The amount of safety features is phenomenal and the only gripe I have is the screen wash reservoir is too small for my liking especially for a vehicle of its decent size.

I'd rather have a CRV than any of the competitors in this class - but that said, Honda really missed out by not making a TrailSport variant. I don't care if it's the base or hybrid powertrain. Give it a slight lift, a skid plate, better tires, a tow package...and maybe even SH-AWD?!

I wouldn't. The CX5 has an inferior second row, worse mileage, and almost ten cubic feet less cargo space. There are reasons why those don't sell as well as RAV4s or CRVs. They are compromised when it comes to utility and mileage in a class where those are some of the most important things.

They are Deceleration Paddle Selector, from page 466 of the pfd manual When you release the accelerator pedal, you can control the rate of deceleration without removing your hands from the steering wheel. Using the deceleration paddle selector situated on the steering wheel, you can sequentially shift through four stages of deceleration. When descending a hill, you can use the deceleration paddle selector to help maintain the rate of deceleration, thereby allowing you to keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead.
