One thing to remember with the Rebel on highways: the sixth gear is an overdrive meant for driving at constant speed for fuel economy. For top speed and acceleration you want to drop down to fifth gear.

Well, Ive owned a Rebel 500 since 2019, and have done 17k+ miles on it. And you NEED 6th gear to reach the top speed. Its easy to top out 5th on her. But she is in a way limited to 110. You can tell there is a sudden power loss around 110-115.

Nice little bike. Honda makes some good bikes and cars too! I had a 97 Valkyrie and loved it!! Had to sell it to pay my taxes!!! 😡😡😡 then I had a stroke a few years ago that took away my balance. Thought my ridding days were over. Then I discovered the F-3S Spyder by Can Am. No balance required! I’m back in the wind!!!! Wind therapy is a real thing, I here to tell ya!!! Love my Spyder!!!

I just bought a Rebel 500, never ridden road bikes before only dirtbikes. I’m 5’9” 150lbs, I have my temps and only ridden a few times round town for maybe an hour. I thought about a 125 or a 300. I feel like a Rebel 300’s they have to little power to comfortably ride highway speeds. I think the smallest I’d ever get on a bike would be a drz 400, or a ninja 400. I’ve was looking at other bikes before buying the 500 and this is the only bike I felt comfortable on. So for a simple, light, city/highway bike to have fun on. I love it. I might sell it in a year or two to get a bigger bike like a 600+. But so far I love the bike and I don’t plan on selling it any time soon!

I have the 1100 and it has the same two problems the 500 does. That seat is not meant for long rides and that exhaust sounds like a sewing machine. People complain about how much gas it holds, but unless you riding off into nowhere, its generally fine. Swap out the first two and the bike is fun.

I looked at this one vs the Eliminator and went with the latter. While yes, the 180 crank doesn't sound the "best" stock, I preferred the looks and the seating position of the Eliminator much more than the rebel. It also has a tachometer and a passenger seat that can keep your butt in the seat when getting on it. So far, nothing but compliments from other riders and people!

This is an extremely awesome first bike. The low torque is so much fun & the tach would be the only nice addition to have. Definitely not needed though. I own both the 1100 and 500. The 500 definitely doesn't feel like it would benefit from a rain-mode, but it would be nice to have an option to limit the engine braking and turning that option into a sport mode. Absolute joy to ride though. Skip the 300. You will want to upgrade to this in less than week and it's perfectly manageable. Awesome review Chase!

I'm debating on getting the 500 and having to worry about upgrading to the 1100 down the road. I'm a super safe driver, been driving stick for 10+yrs, did my mfs course...you think the 1100 on rain mode is do-able for a first long term bike for daily?

@SteveySwidz
@SteveySwidz 4 ай бұрын
@@life.of.hang711 - I can’t put my finger on it, but the 1100 in rain mode is a little weird starting from a stop. It seems like no matter how high revs you use, no matter how quick you can be completely off the clutch lever, the bike moves off unnaturally slow at the speed it decides vs what you are actually doing. This might be a feature of rain mode safeties though. No issues in standard or sport. It can just be a little annoying if you end up practicing on roads with some car traffic in rain mode. But when it’s really raining and cars are moving slower, I can completely see the benefit. The 1100 was my first bike and I did a lot of NJ/NY roads so experiences may vary with rain mode. At 400 miles on rain mode, I graduated to standard and rarely use sport based on where I live. The biggest hurdle was discipline to not go standard when I wasn’t ready for it yet. That moment for the change comes naturally.

@SteveySwidz okay, that's good to know. So let's just say if I were to finance a 500, and got tired of it sooner than I thought, would dealer's allow trade-ins and refinance for a 1100??
@2wrdr
@2wrdr Ай бұрын
@@life.of.hang711 By your question, I'm assuming you are very young. Wish I was still young in body. LOL JFYI, you will get burned $ wise if you buy twice from the dealer. You are going to lose via fees, taxes, and depreciation. My suggestion is to purchase a slightly used 500 and learn on that. Heck you may find you are perfectly happy long term with the 500. Take it from me, bigger, mo power, mo weight and all that goes with it has almost as many downsides as upsides. I've owned 13 bikes over 30 years and just sharing my experience with you for what it is worth. Wish you the best with whatever you get. I'm actually looking to get my first mini moto now after all these years. :)

You can do 40-80 in 3 and 4 gear for best acceleration. 6 is more of an overdrive for fuel economy and cruising so of course its not responsive in 6 but plenty of passing power in 4 or 5 at highway speeds for a small-medium. I wonder if honda will launch a 750 rebel using the hornets engine? That could be sweet.

The Rebels just always look so meh to me..... The only one I've seen that looked decent was the 1100. The Scrambler 500 version is somewhat OK But otherwise I am expending effort to make sure my wife does not buy one of these. I'd take a VStar over a Rebel any day.

No offense at all, but the vstar is an awful bike. ( the 250 at least)

This bike is not a cruiser to me. Looks like a sport bike.

you know You've spent too much time on high power super sports and muscle cruisers when a 45 horsepower 500 going on the highway seems like an undoable task to you

Bro you ride so slow I have the same bike in blue and I get some really good power getting around on highway and street. You change gears so early. Making you sort of slug along I guess. I started on a rebel 300 and would still get decent power. To 500 I felt such a better power it was so dope

I’m only four minutes into your video and I’m sure I will like your review but you pulled into the wrong lane so it’s not the Kia’s fault completely

It is a silly riding posture for anyone above 5'5. To lower the seat that much but keep mid pegs makes you upright squat....which is extremely fatiguing on 5 hr rides...and even you here look a bit silly. For a rider under that, it is fine. Even the old rebel needed much more forward controls for the seat. If they just rebuilt the GL500/silverwing frame ergonomics into their 500cc you'd have a good economic tourer and town commuter bike with proper luggage mounts optional.
