Mazda makes severel sizes of SUVs and the CX-3 is the smallest. They put a large engine for the vehicle's weight so it does not need an unreliable turbo charger but is still small enough to run without an unreliable balance shaft. Mazda also uses tranmissions with gears instead of belts like most of their competitors. Belts slip which helps to explain why the CX-3 performs well without needing a turbocharger. Some of the earliest automobiles used belt drives which were soon replaced by chains which were then replaced by gears. Now we are going back to belts again. Belt drive CVTs are much cheaper to make but cost significantly more to run in the long term.

The standard sound system gives you a bigger boot. Sport mode on the gearbox transforms the car. If you keep your foot to the floor it’s fast enough and the brakes can handle it. Love it.

One important weak point you could see in the trunk of this car, the safety belt retracting mechanisms going out. Doesn’t pass the yearly inspection with this problem… for good safety reasons obviously.
