2023 MG ZS EV review: Long Range | Larger battery delivers more driving range in new electric SUV!

The 2023 MG ZS EV is already a very popular small SUV, let alone a super successful electric car. But as is always the case with zero-emissions models, it's constantly looking to improve its value offer with larger batteries that lead to longer driving ranges.
Speaking of which, enter the aptly named MG ZS EV Long Range. It's got - you guessed it - a larger battery, up a sizeable 22.3kWh, to 72.6kWh. As a result, driving ranges climbs by 120km, to 440km, according to the WLTP combined cycle test.
But this reduction in range anxiety does come at a cost, as the Long Range is naturally priced higher than any other MG ZS EV variant before it. But is it worth paying the premium? In this expert review, CarsGuide Senior Journalist Richard Berry finds out.

hired one of these in Sydney last week for 4 days; excellent car! fast comfortable very relaxing to drive. hit 160 on the way to wollongong very easily, and handled the windy roads through the national park quite well. launches surprisingly hard out of corners. great in heavy city traffic. approx 250 - 300 out of charge, heavy throttle. 40 mins full recharge at bp servo - $20

First time I've viewed your channel - quirky, but fun. The MG is budget and does not have the handling of a Merc or BMW. But from my owner experience of Mercedes and Audi, the reliability and warranty from MG is far superior. My Audi was always in the garage and I sold it in the end, when it finally didn't display warnings or just lose power without warning. Don't even go there on modern Mercs - Honda's are far superior in terms of quality and reliability. In the 70's and 80's Merc's were great. My brand new A Class AMG broke down in the first week of ownership and had to be recovered! When it broke down a week later, I gave it back. I love my MG ZS Mk2 - it's even got a WiFi hotspot!

I've had mine for a few months now and I really like it. It's my first EV and overall I've enjoyed my experience, I feel like it's a lot of value for the money. The range is extremely dependent on how you drive. I commute to work approx 160km roundtrip, with the major part of the road being highway mainly going 110kmph with a few 120-130kmph sections. Starting at an 80% charge it costs me about 55-60%. If you want to see the 380-420+ km range you need to limit your speed, use ECO mode and consider turning off the AC. But as the video says, for city driving and country roads it keeps the charge nicely and gives you a good range. I definitely recommend it for anyone interested in buying an EV!

The seat vs steering wheel movement doesn’t seem major to me. We didn’t have adjustable steering wheels for decades. What other comfort features do ppl have issue with.

I wish that i would be somehow, able to go through a tree of folders under the USB option and choose a song of my liking. Unfortunately its not possible on the MG ZS EV.When the USB is plugged, its a list of 3000 songs and the trouble is now for the owner of the vehicle to make to select his song from the haystack!. Hope MG ZS infotainment people rectify this error through an update. Thanks.

it's really not, it allows you to park comfortably at chargers and plug in. the Atto 3 is much worse with its placement as I've seen many that need to go over the lines to charge. the MG really doesn't have that problem.

Range is very speed dependent. He doesn’t explain this well. Range at 90km/hr will be better than at 100km/hr etc. The nominal range test method is very different to real world driving.
