How this race isn't on a national network channel each year is just beyond me. Amazing and entertaining to watch.

Are you going to pay one of those “national networks” to air the race…? If there was any money to be made, those national networks would be fighting over who gets to cover it. FOLLOW THE $$$

Great riders, great action, no one watching, road racing in America in a nut shell. I'm a geezer old enough to remember when Daytona was the biggest single race in the world, attracting the top teams & factories. One can only wish it could be like that again, but I'm just dreamin.

Probably because the 200's purse back then was over 100,000 dollars?? There were more people in the paddock than they're were the grandstands- sad --

I went twice in the late 70's; the second time was when Kenny Roberts won the race. Stands pretty full, infield full. Riding over from Orlando on my RD400, there were hundreds and hundreds of bikes on I-4. Sad to see it so empty now.

Here's my take on today's Daytona "200" as they have the audacity to call it - they're all on 600's (most of them anyway)- you've got naybe 5 REALLY fast guys that have a chance to win, another 10 if the first 5 guys screw up, then 65 GRID FILLERS that are just there to tell all their buddies that they "raced" in the Daytona 200 - the riders in the 30+ qualifying positions are 20+ seconds a lap off the pace and the AMA still allows these IDIOTS to compete, because the more riders you have, the more MONEY the AMA (joke) gets to shove into their GREEDY POCKETS- it's EMBARRASSING

@@tvdinner325yea, I remember all my racing buddies asking me last week if I watched the Daytona 200 and they couldn't understand why I busted up LAUGHING- And then seeing all these comments on u tube about how good of a "race" it was ?? What a great race! Congratulations Josh! This race NEEDS to be returned to its former glory. Superbikes need to be the premier race. There should be HUGE money paid to the winner and top finishers, to ensure that all racers are compensated to some degree for making the journey to Daytona.. They need to attract the top riders from all around the world, from every major racing series including MotoGP and WBSBK. Points should be appointed to each rider for their finish and going towards the championship in whatever championship they are contending, from all around the world. If there needs to be changes made for track safety, then just do it. We are America. We can produce the biggest motorcycle race in the world. We just have to “want” to do it. It can be done. How awesome would that be?

Yes this race can be brought back to premier class glory . It needs to be raced with at least World Superbike level equipment . I would also like to see it as a double points race . It's crazy to scroll down so far before seeing people who also think this way . Yes this was a great race , it was exciting and close but so is racing Yamaha YSR 50S ! In 1983 Kenny Roberts was radar gunned at 211mph , over 30mph faster than this race forty years later . When they clocked Roberts they had the Radar set up and Kenny wasn't even shutting off to well past the Radar . So they guessed it was over 215 . Funny to think about it but there were many motorcycles in the parking lot that fans rode to the race that could blow by these guys on the banking ! I want to see see MotoGp bikes on the banking at 225mph . If Roberts could go 215 in 1983 with the tires they had , I'm sure that another 10mph would definitely be possible . The grandstands were packed packed in the 70s and 80s when the F1 bikes were the big show . So glad I was able to see those guys racing .

Awesome stuff. Daytona really shows how slipstreaming works! Felt a little for Herrin with the punishment. The gap was certainly there, and the Ducati looked more planted than any other bike out there. So it was a fair grab of position. Escalante did nothing wrong except he was wide and left a gap. Racers take gaps.

Since moving to the US from the UK, coming from MotoGP, Isle of Man TT, British Superbikes, World Superbikes, I’ve been looking to follow the national scene. Maybe the Americans in the comments could explain why, at the premier US road racing event, they’re not riding 1000cc machines, and where are all the fans?! I’m not looking to criticise, as I just want to watch quality racing, but I expected a little more from the Daytona 200!
