Here are my new TOEFL speaking templates for 2023. I've adjusted all of them and have included sample answers.

Very good tips all the connectors help me get a good score eventhough I was under a lot of pressure and I think was not that good my answers the connector do make a difference. Best tips ever.

Very helpful templates, indeed fit into what the speaking tasks are asking for. But is the so-called "high score" criteria still arbitrary? From my personal TOEFL experience as well as my students' responses it seems that reaching 26-27 is mostly consistent but to get closer to 30 is highly dependent on the human graders' preference or based on the overall performance of all the test takers in that particular time, would like to get some info if possible, thanks.

I don't think it is "arbitrary" as the human raters have a grading rubric which they follow. But I agree that sometimes the scores seem inexplicable. I believe that is mostly due to the vagaries and flaws of the AI scoring rather than the whims of the human raters.

Hi, First of all,l want to thank you for all your effort and especially the tips. I think no one talks about the bad practices, I saw so many Tofel questions on KZfaq but they may not be as accurate as ETS. So l do have book for tofel and has so many questions. The author is Renald Rilcy, and it is a purple book that usually comes with a DVD. What do you think about the accuracy of the book? And can l trust it? The book had good reviews and so many people are buying it. I would appreciate your advice as I am preparing for an exam and l dont want all my study efforts to get wasted. Again Thank you so much.

Thank you so much, Michael! You are great. I have a question. Are there any penalties for being cut off while you're speaking? If yes, how much? I really get stressed when I see the timer. I prefer to speak until I am cut off by the test.

Being cut off isn't automatically a problem. But it does become a problem if you have not finished stating all of the required details or if you have not properly supported your argument.

Hey Michael ! I want to know whether the reading passage goes away once the reading time is over or its stays on the screen? I have heard that the reading passage stays there (probably left or right side of screen), only the voice recording stops / disappears. This is mentioned almost everywhere on the internet. Plz correct me if I am wrong as I am planning to take my Toefl exam on 4th of next month. Thanks

In the speaking section the reading passage goes away when the timer is done. In the writing section the reading passage stays on the screen as you write the essay.
