I stopped at a local Toyota dealer on a Sunday to look at a 4Runner and the factory sticker had a price of $61332 (it had that stupid XP Wallet Predator package), which was fairly high but doable. Next to it, however, was a dealer added sticker that had a line that boldly stated MARKUP $8000! They don't even try to hide the ripoff anymore. I love the vehicle but I will give it a hard pass until prices get a little more sane.

I tried shopping for a 2023 TRD Pro earlier this year. The dealer had the same car in this video en route to the dealership. Market price had it around $60k which is where the market on this car is. When they handed me the deal sheet, they had a market adjustment price of $20 thousand. They wanted $80 thousand for the 4Runner. Literally got up and walked out

@@themagician7734Have you seen what the FJ Cruisers are going for? Insane. So, not surprising dealers are jacking up to hell on the 4R before the LC hits the lots. The new LC probably will rob the 4R customer base and the 4R will be discontinued. To become the next FJ collectible.

I would also like to comment the 4-runner. We had this car in the 90s. And we fell in love with it for its highest off-road capabilities. And no parts of it ever broked! We used it for hunting in very wild places, in autumn and winter, when there is a lot of snow and very cold, where any breakdown could cause serious problems. People still drive old 4-runners and don’t want to change them to new ones. It cost about 30 К dollars in Kazakhstan. Respect to the author for good videos!

What a great vehicle! I have 2022 Lime Rush TRD Pro and have driven 52K miles with it in just 1.5 years! The TRD Fox shocks are some of the most comfortable shocks I've had, probably comparable to the Ford Raptor. The TRD Pro without any modifications is already a super capable vehicle, as I've done Black Bear Pass, Ophir Pass, and many others without any problems. I doubt most of the people who have steel bumpers and 34'' tires ever go off-road haha. Just swapped out a new Fox suspension set at 50K, changed transmission fluid and differential fluids, and got a new set of General Grabber ATX. Here's to the next 50K miles 🍻

@whocaresjustdoit
@whocaresjustdoit 8 ай бұрын
@@TobyCostaRica The Fox shocks, like all performance shocks (Icons, Kings), need to be rebuilt at 50K miles, otherwise it'll ride really harshly. I didn't have any leaking issues or anything but I do quite a bit of offroading so it was time. I bought another set and sent the old ones on the vehicle to Fox for rebuild. It takes 3-4 weeks to rebuild the shocks and I didn't want to not have my car while it's being done, so now I have 2 sets for whenever I need to get the shocks rebuilt. I haven't gone anywhere that the TRD Pro can't go yet so I don't have the need to upgrade suspensions as of now.

This was an excellent Friday treat for me. TYSM! Still want to bring my 4R TRD OR out there someday. lol Only minor thing I might have done on the CC attempt at slow speed, is not turned the tires and gave it a longer time to see if it would fill the holes back in and climb up and out. There are a lot of rumors about it. Some fear. Some hope. I made my choice back in 2018 and I cannot see me ever trading up. No matter what comes next. Yes, it would be great to have some things I did not get, but I knew what I was getting into. I accepted this jack of all trades for what it is. Could it use another gear or 2, yes. Could it use a front camera, yes. (new ones have it)And there are other little nuances people talk about that I knew about before my purchase. But it has been 5 years now, and no complaints from me. And still Toyota has not recreated the 4R. Could it go away like the FJ Cruiser? Maybe. The new Land Cruiser could slide in and take the business. But I would not pick the new LC over what I have.

Great video! Definitely would like to have seen the system work as designed… moving the wheel back and forth is definitely a no-no with crawl control. You need to point in the direction you want to go and let it do it’s thing.
@Westerntrailboss
@Westerntrailboss 11 ай бұрын
You defeated the crawl control on the ladder by turning the wheels back and forth. If you watch the videos Toyota did on the Tacoma from 2016 you’ll learn how it works. Good luck next time and keep up the videos!

So crawl control only works when you're traveling directly straight ahead?
@Westerntrailboss
@Westerntrailboss 11 ай бұрын
@@trailrunnah8886 Crawl control works to build contact surface. If you watch the Toyota demo video of the Tacoma stuck in sand, you’ll see the system inching the sand to build up traction as it digs out. By turning the steering wheel back and forth, this can’t happen. Your literally digging a hole by doing that. I’m not a Toyota engineer, LOL, but that’s the best way I can explain it.
@WW-wf8tu
@WW-wf8tu 11 ай бұрын
@@WesterntrailbossIn sand, the tires are filling the hole back up as they slowly turn, stop and turn. Turning the wheel side to side negates this action as it is creating more ditch to fill in. Whether or not in the soil shown here the functionality of CC would be duplicated like it was in the example you mentioned, remains to be seen. As most people don't have the patience to let the system work. I have personally duplicated the example you mentioned in my 4R, in sand. Confident that it would in fact dig me out, I did not have anyone around, no winches, no aids of any kind when I ran my test. I spun all 4 tires(4WD Hi)until the vehicle was resting on the frame. There is no more stuck than that. Flipped on CC and let it do its thing. In less than 5 minutes(if memory serves)it crawled itself out. I primarily did this test(and filmed it)to debunk those that said you could only do this maneuver going in reverse. I did it going forward. Ryan did a great job here testing out the abilities of all the traction devices, except this 1 example. And I cannot fault him for it, as he does not have a generous amount of time to sit and wait indefinitely to see if it would go up that incline in that soft soil. I am not sure if CC would do it under that condition. But I would love to give it a try. 1 thing is certain, gravity would be on your side going backwards if it did not work going up the hill. Hole or not. Mercedes had a gimmick on some SUV model(s) of the vehicle bouncing up and down in the sand. Thus causing the sand to fill back in the hole. lol Was interesting. I like the CC better tho.

Now running Toyo OC 285/70R17 on stock suspension, haven't had a chance to test offroad yet. I believe 285's would help to float over due to more area with same psi vs stock 265s. Just over a week ago we took our 2023 Subaru Ascent on Section 2 of WA BDR as well as some roads just eastside of the Manastash Ridge Observatory. The steepest we tackled was up hill 17 degree angle over dry dirt and loose rock with tons of moguls. The Subaru Ascent did fantastic. No slipping, just drove right up! There was a lot of other obstacles too, lots of rocks and dry/deep dirt and huge ruts. No problems on any of that. That said, we are getting a rear diff locker installed this week as we intend to tackle some tougher stuff later this year. Really wish you could get a 2023 Subaru Ascent out there (or I'll bring ours over!). I think they will impress with their capabilities.

May still be similar to what it did prior. Any more difficult of the road, you’ll be watching TFL videos. Subaru owners don’t like them but the point of their video is just to see how they far they can push it and some videos show how good Subarus are compared to off road focus vehicles

Of course you need to air down! Should have been the first thing you do. Have taken my stock 2021 4Runner TRD Off Road (only skids and sliders) all through Colorado, Utah and Arizona. Of course after completing Hell’s Revenge (including some offshoots) I had plugs in two of my four Highway tires…but? This thing will do far more than I have seen in most any of these sites. Crawl Control and MTS is not a gimmick but only needed in specific situations. I have used it in off camber boulder climbs that my human throttle inputs could not do (left foot braking or otherwise) to get through a difficult obstacle.

Sounds maybe weird, but this is my dream car at the moment. Even it's in the affordable range (compared to supercars), it's hard to find one without 15-20k upcharge from dealers. I don't think I'll like the new model (most likely a "fresher" design with a humongous screen inside. I would guess with at least one hybrid option.) Not knowing how the new one will really look like, I'm sure I would pick this one over the new one.

There are markups at a lot of dealers around us too. What we did to find it at MSRP was build it out on the Toyota website then we sent it out to every dealer with 75 miles of us. It was a long day of answering the phone calls but we found a local dealer selling at MSRP.

I'm going into this question with three caveats out of the way: it was a rental, it very likely was NOT on snow tires, and it was a 22 SR5, NOT a TRD Pro. However, recently while in CO, I was going up a mountain pass the morning after a foot or two of snow fell. The roads were plowed but some areas were still a bit compacted. I couldn't have been going more than 20 mph up and around a curve and the brakes suddenly locked completely. I can't remember the last time I had a vehicle's brakes lock on me in 10 years of driving, and luckily I managed to careen it into a ditch and not over the opposing edge of the road. Am I missing something? I know the SR5s are technically "part-time 4 Wheel Drive" vehicles but they have ABS, which should completely eliminate the chances of that happening. So why would a 2022 SR5 4Runner's brakes lock up at all?
@drivingsports
@drivingsports 7 ай бұрын
If the ice is slick enough and the tires bad enough it might feel like the brakes are locked.

This is where toyota went wrong with the Land Cruiser by going cheap. The 1958 LC is supposed to the off road model of the off road model yet it doesn't have as good of tires, no MTS or ATrac and no MTM camera system. The most "off road ready" Land Cruiser will get beat by the 4runner from the factory.
