2023 Toyota GR Corolla: The Car You SHOULD Buy… But Probably Can’t!!!!

in today's video we drove one of Toyota's most highly anticipated cars. This is the 2023 Toyota Corolla GR. The GR Corolla is the AWD, Manual, 300HP version of Toyota's very popular Corolla. The GR Corolla was built to compete with the likes of the VW Golf R, Honda Civic Type R and many other hot hatchbacks. Today we finally got behind the wheel of it and found out if it is worth the hype and the crazy wait times and over MSRP prices.
The GR Corolla is a high-performance variant of the Toyota Corolla model, developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR), the automaker's motorsport division. It was announced in 2021 and is expected to go on sale in select markets in the near future.
The GR Corolla is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 257 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and features all-wheel drive, which helps to provide better traction and handling.
The exterior of the GR Corolla is distinguished by its aggressive styling, with a large front grille, wide fenders, and a rear spoiler. The suspension has been upgraded to provide better handling, and the brakes have been improved to provide more stopping power.
Inside, the GR Corolla features sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a digital instrument cluster. Other features include a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, and a premium audio system.
The GR Corolla is designed to appeal to driving enthusiasts who are looking for a high-performance compact car that is equally at home on the track as it is on the street. Its combination of power, speed, and handling make it a highly anticipated model among Toyota fans and performance car enthusiasts.

The rev match on my gr 4 Yaris is used as a safety feature as things get fast mistakes happen . I use it but manually rev match and at the same time i rev match 👍❤️❤️myself and if need be I can concentrate on other stuff and all is well

It’s an awesome car no doubt, and hard to get new from a dealership but there are two for sale in Ontario as “used” and are marked up $25-35k Cdn over MSRP which is insane!!

@@Drivewithroy Completely agree with you on your points, I'm picking mine up today and truthfully I wish it wasn't as hyped as it was, because it will make it hard to drive as a daily which was originally intended - based on the limited availability it's "drives" one to think differently. More people should have access to this car as Toyota themselves always push to get cars to the masses; it's part of their mission statement. So, hopefully with the world "normalizing" some, production will be 3-4 years as originally described. The last limiting factor is the production/assembly crew dedicated to create the cars, it's not large; these same team put together the JZA80 and the LFA; with that in mind I don't see it being a large number produced world-wide based on history. Also, straight pipes is incorrect there is no fake sound pushed through the speakers; I noticed this with their review immediately. There is however physical piping (induction tube) into the cabin similar to the GR 86.

I don't know if it's different where you live, but my local Toyota dealer only marked up the price $200 for shipping. So the Core Edition with the Cold Weather, Tech, and Performance packages is just under $40K, pretty much the same as their website's build price

These types of cars are being ruined😮 by greedy dealership markups. The manufacturer must do something to stop this insanity because it is literally killing the value proposition of the product and making it unattainable for the targeted consumer. The dealerships are involved in business practice that is extremelly detrimental to their own manufacturer.

I tried finding parts. Seems the GR corolla parts department in North America havent updated inventory for 2023 GR Corolla yet. You might be able to find it from Japan/ Australia.

These are also made in a whole different factory (more hands on) which takes 10x longer to make than a normal Corolla. So I doubt Toyota will increase production significantly.

@@Drivewithroy yeah I think prices will definitely stay up for the Morizo and Circuit. Core will probably end up being available at most places at msrp or close to it. But will keep their value well kinda like the Evo and Sti. Where after 5-10 years they’ll retain 80-90% of their msrp value.

@@cybasmuggla3697 in all honesty I must have heard it in some press release or some review video. So I don’t know how accurate that is. What I do know is that it is built in a special line in a dog factory and is a lot more hands on they also add a lot more welds and seams than a regular Corolla. If you read the Wikipedia page it talks about the Motomachi plant GR line which doesn’t use conveyor belt assembly but uses stations.

What's mind blowing is all this reviewers saying "fun" and daily driver together.... well... most daily commutes are in heavy traffic, that stop and go is certainly no fun at all in a manual... lol. If you live outside of a metro area without that much traffic, sure it will be fun.

If his in Canada, by default, they get the 'performance package' on the Core version

@@GeraldPUR well from what I know the limited slip differentials is part of the performance package and that also included red caliper paint with GR logo. That’s what the window sticker on my GR Corolla said when I picked it up. I hope he does have a limited slip differential as I feel all these cars should.

The Core in Canada includes the brakes and diffs as standard. The dealer I can get one from wants $53,859…that’s a $5,000 markup…but they call it dealer installed options. OK. Haven’t decided if I want it yet.

I'd buy it if they kept it at msrp, did a better job on interior and had a dct option this stuff has gotten out of hands and dealers are also helping to kill great projects

Why say you can't get one? They aren't hard to find at msrp or close to it. I found one pop up near me for msrp and bought it. Within a couple weeks ago I could have told you 3 more for msrp on the dealer lots now. You don't have to be special to get one
