Great use of the deck gun! Such an under utilized piece of equipment.

Being volunteers these firefighters know what their doing. As others flee they attack. First responders always have my utmost respect.

I don’t know shit about firefighting BUT I watch enough of these videos and this is one of the rare instances that water was immediately put on a fire. Within two minutes and three seconds of arriving on scene they had the fire hose spraying water and then less than 50 seconds later, they were using what I never see used, the deck gun. In my opinion, this was a job well done.

Well done! First line pulled: 2-1/2” hand line. Good start. Directing that line at the lowest area of fire - top marks. Early and very effective use of deck gun - outstanding! I agree with the other commenter that at some point, the gun is just chasing fire around and it should be replaced with cautious use of interior lines to extinguish the fire in detail. Very impressive overall.

Good call on the monitor. Early established water supply, don't mess around with hand lines that won't get anywhere fast. Got to say tho... the second time I saw one of my guys lose a helmet, before he became a liability and a statistic, he would be having a seat, and a long discussion with our safety officer over the usefulness of helmet straps and why helmets come with them as standard equipment. Overall good job tho.

Great use of the deck gun, but also a fantastic example of how it can push heat, fire, and smoke out of other openings in the building. I guess that's why it's never deployed when firefighters are in the building!

Out of all of these videos I been watching. This has got to be one of the fastest water supply hookups and hose put into operation. These guys clearly have there training down.

Great job! Excellent example of defensive attack. It's clearfrom the beginning that the fire is too far advanced to attempt saving the structure. Water was put on fast, and every effort was made to prevent spread to any exposures. This department is very well trained, and it shows.

Awesome use of deck gun, most forget that’s a important tool for a quick knock, then go to hand lines. But might as well get the truck ready for pipe work, that was a doubtful situation upon arrival . Strong work.

Those deck guns are fantastic. They can do more in five minutes with a deck gun than hand lines in an hour.

Didn't expect to see this recommended to me, I can see my house. I remember coming outside to grab a package and seeing the flame. My neighbor told me that the house just sold on January 6th only for it to burn down the same month.

I really liked the fact that these fire fighters were spraying water on the flames within 3-4 minutes of arriving. Some of these videos, they take 8-10 minutes, it's almost like they're just letting it burn.

That place was really cooking on arrival, but once that deck gun started operating. They had a quick knock down. ( great job guys) When I was a volunteer firefighter, I worked the deck gun whenever I got a chance to. Hopefully the person who was responsible for the fire, too took responsible for it. Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the Citizens of your coverage area

The use of the deck gun so fast was a very good move and the idea of the large hand line was good but was not used properly! Is was not flowing the proper amount of water to low of pressure or to low of GPM air both no better then a regular small hand line ! And a note . When you have a house of this age more then likely you have individual boards on the roof so you can use your deck gun to blow off the shingles which will let you get water into the attic space thru the spaces between the boards and speeding your extinguishment. But it was gone from the start ! Good video !

Damn - I didn’t watch the whole thing - maybe it all went south after five minutes - but THIS is how to attack a fire. A hose working within two minutes of arrival. Some companies take that long to try to determine what to do. Then the deck gun going within another minute. What is that? Many companies seem to be clueless even how to even use one. But did you note how quickly the fire abated? Maybe it burnt to the ground finally - I got sleepy and had to go to bed. But I would sleep a whole lot better if I knew a company such as this was nearby! Bravo!

YES.....YES.....I love it when departments have the knowledge to know when to hit it with the gun. So many Fire Academy Instructors teach the new firefighters to pull 1.75 baby lines on everything and don't even teach deck gun usage anymore, let alone how to fight infernos like this. GOOD JOB !

Nice job with the deck gun! My uncle who was a fireman once pointed out the importance of an engine equipped with one, especially when it's the first to arrive at a scene such as this... It gives the firemen a chance to make some headway at a fire until more companies can arrive and get more of a strategic plan of attack with more specialized equipment...

Deck guns need to be used more often. The moment you have a water supply, they can kill a fire real fast.

I think I saw at least three fire departments there. I suspect they are volunteer. But what ever they did a great job getting the fire under control. When the video started and one truck showed up, I thought the whole thing would be on the ground. A very pleasant outcome.

Good job with the deck gun, however at least one of the hundreds of Chiefs on scene should have pulled the Firefighters operating the hoselines AWAY from under the master stream, or shut down the deck gun until they were out of the way. Even after the ladder truck began operations, Firefighters with hoses continued to operate near the building. With the extent of the fire; a collapse zone should have been enforced- that chimney was especially scary looking.

"Surround and Drown" Ops can still be done incorrectly. Engine taking the front of the house - mistake #1 Engine leading off with an 1 3/4" hose - mistake #2 Random old man on scene with no gear telling people what to do - mistake #3 Having your first-due ladder come in the direction that gives them no room to set up - mistake #4 (you need them to be able to set up!) I'm all for dousing this with master streams, but not being able to have your ladder be able to get a crew to take care of the second floor/roof is where this all went wrong. - mistake #5. Positioning has a key effect in this extinguishment. Of course the dwelling was well-involved, so having the engine use the deck gun on the first floor and ladder have control over master stream operations on the second floor and attic space could've controlled this sooner. First due ladder can't set up - mistake #6 Lose the handlines -- no one is going inside. And also a way to guarantee useful water for your other apparatus. -mistake #7 Having that engine blast anywhere and everywhere on that house pushes fueled-smoke throughout the structure, all of this water is basically doing nothing but spreading the fire around, due to how involved it is. It may put the fire out in that room it's spraying, but the pressure coming from that masterstream also increases airflow throughout the structure, which, already has multiple fire-involved rooms. Increasing this air flow with only one master stream increases the fire spread throughout the structure, making it a game of wack-a-mole for the deck gun, and firefighters on scene still chasing the fire with hoselines. Thankfully, a skilled ladder-operator was able to position their apparatus to aim their masterstream into the attic space, which eventually lead to the extinguishment of this fire. I am sincerely sorry for whoever's home this was, and I'll bet you lost everything due to the lack of knowledge behind fire extinguishment tactics of your trusted volunteer fire chiefs. When will we hold these chiefs accountable the same way we glorify them for putting on a white helmet every January? There is always an election for volunteer fire departments, but never any evaluations to make sure this really is this right person to be in charge of protecting their community...

Fast application of water. IF someone was home I wonder how the fire got a head start. I am always interested in cause. According to other sources it may be arson and given aggressive fire in several parts of the house I think that is a good bet.😅
